  1. Sox are 3 games back ( thanks yankees), Tampa only has 8 games at home the rest of the way while the Sox play a majority at home. I think the Red Sox finish first, wouldn't it be something if the Rays don't make the playoffs ?
  2. According to Olney and Gammons, they are talking to him about his no-trade clause. Certainly wouldn't bother me, if the cost isn't significant. I certainly hope not. 6 HR, 37 RBI... he's basically Coco Crisp with less speed. Its a done deal..here is a snippet from fox news . I think they need him because of Drew. Kotsay, who turns 33 on Dec. 2, has been hot in August, posting an .856 on-base/slugging percentage, his highest of any month this season. Boston assumes the balance of his $8 million salary, which would amount to slightly more than $1.5 million. The Braves did not plan to offer salary arbitration to Kotsay, who is a free agent at the end of the season. Kotsay missed all of June due to a lower back strain, but since then has appeared in 40 of the Braves' 48 games. For the season, he is batting .289 with a .338 on-base percentage, six home runs and 37 RBIs in 344 plate appearances.

  7. Brewers only won one game yesterday. Sabathia remains undefeated since joining Brewers. Sabathia is a free agent at the end of the season ?.....look for the Sox and Yanks to go nuts bidding for him.
  8. Last night on the post game they said it was his right oblique, and that the right side is easier to heal ( maybe 2 weeks) because he is a righty batting and throwing. If it was his left your looking at a month and a half ........i dunno that was what MCarty was saying.
  9. YYYYYYOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUKKKKK !!!!!!!!!!!!!........DelCarmen stinks by the way, so does Aardsma! Did Dan go to bed and miss the BIG comeback ?
  10. Yeah , i was just flipping thru the channels and i came upon a news conference from Fenway with Theo and Francona . This is a good deal because of the Wakefield situation.
  11. I saw him in Feb. of 07 and we were surprised at the way he was moving . After the show we talked with his background singer and she told us he had a stroke. BUT , other than the fact that he had to have someone hold his arm as he walked to the piano and displayed very limited movement . I thought he sounded pretty good , and the band sounded great .
  12. the L.A. Times has an enormous obit today. I read the LA obit , its OK but i found this mistake : "After the 1975 album "Chocolate Chip," Hayes didn't release new material until "Love Attack" in 1986." He released "For the sake of love" in 78 and "Don't Let Go" in 79
  13. Last night on one news station all they could say was "he was known for his bald head " ?
  14. RIP Isaac , I was lucky enough to have seen him in concert about a year ago.
  15. Dan, received the CDs , well packed , great condition .......THANK YOU
  16. The Sox claimed Brian Giles off waivers ?
  17. Because they created something new from what they were being influenced by ( or stealing ). Also because they have no money thats why they are singing the Blues. But these guys are just taking pre-recorded music ....that would be like me ( a photographer) buying photo books and cutting up all of Walker Evans pictures and than scanning them and presenting them as my Photos/Art. I have no interest in that i would rather try and create something new on my own ( even though Evans might influence me.) That to me is more rewarding in the end. Actually, there is a famous case of a photographer who takes photos of billboards and other commercial photography and suddenly it is a new work (with a minimal amount of cropping and resizing/framing etc.). (This may have already come up.) He makes no attempts to track down the source of these commercial photos. And his "work" has hung in art galleries all over. Thomas Struth may be an even more famous example of a photographer who incorporates others' work in the background of his own large scale photos of crowds. Why is it that the visual arts have few if any hang-ups over this kind of sampling and recycling? Is it because all the starving artists are in it together, or that the stakes in the visual arts are low -- though this is manifestly not the case for some artists. Or perhaps artists know that if the corporate dickheads had their way, someone would copywrite the color green and then they would all be fucked. So they simply don't sue each other over it. You can get away with a great deal of recycling, even of copywritten images, if you are making a parody. Suddenly this is protected speech. This would seem to be a stronger line of legal reasoning than Fair Use, which has always been ambiguous. Culture is always about hybridization, and I just find it hard to understand how there is so much overzealous protection of a couple of bars of music or a riff in the audio realm and not in these other arts. I had a Photo teacher once criticize one of my photos,he told me that Walker Evans would have done it better. Stupid me , i should have taken the bait and cut up a bunch of Evans work and resubmitted it .

  19. Dan, You gotta be happy with LOWRIE or what ?.....This kid has delivered BIGTIME in the last 6 games. Yesterday on EEI Francona hesitated a little when they asked if a player who is injured can lose their job.
  20. Why would they store that stuff on a Movie Lot ?....and did they back all that stuff up ?
  21. I hope he recovers and all is right . A few years back my wife and I visited his Juke Joint down in Clarksdale .
  22. Allen PM sent for Roy Budd Get Budd: The Soundtracks Movie music by the British pianist, 2 cds Castle $10
  23. Here in Boston people are very suspicious of Boras ( especially Schilling) BUT i really don't think he told Manny to skip games or roll around left field like a Moron. BUT , I bet at that meeting Boras told Manny that the Sox could pick up his option. Especially if he put up big numbers in the second half and helped get them to the playoffs. And if they picked up the option he would be in the same position next year playing his heart out for another option and of course Boras would continue to work for FREE.
