  1. Yeah, especially if you can find it for under $50 or so. There's some commercial gloss here and there, but once you get behind that there's some good tunes and nice solos.
  2. RZA did the soundtrack and has a cameo. Ghost Dog himself was Forrest Whitaker. Great movie. Now watching And before that it was:
  3. I don't think Capitol Vaults has the entire Mosaic discography correct? It seems pretty limited actually.
  4. And now: A 2-CD Snapper/Trojan comp that's got a pretty good mix.
  5. All I can say is that earbuds of just about any make sound better than whatever is coming out of a google home or alexa speaker. I'm betting that demo younger than 30 y/o, most of their music gets played via either of those or car speakers.
  6. Some beautiful music here. The track Dedication is remarkable, and this RVG CD has an alt take as a bonus track. Good stuff
  7. Can't really speak for rock, but I listen to a decent amount of current pop and I think it sounds fine on regular speakers. Although most of my listening of that happens in the car, on the occasion it plays on regular speakers I think it actually sounds better.
  8. Grains of salt and tons of skepticism are mandatory for perusing that forum. Less than half of what's said there should be believed, and that's probably generous.
  9. NP: Making a note to check this out in the near future
  10. Good news indeed.
  11. Now playing some cuts from these albums in the Brookmeyer Mosaic Select:
  12. Last night played: and via those Fela 2-fer CDs that came out a couple of decades ago now. I should've bought more. These albums are killer.
  13. How is this one? Music & entire package worthwhile?
  14. Reminds me I need to pull that Mosaic Select out again...
  15. Interesting that Mack Avenue is ultimately owned by Gretchen Valade, the Chairman of the Board at Carhartt. Apparently she's a big jazz fan and it's a pet project of hers as is the Detroit Jazz Fest.
  16. Checking out that Moody now. The CD reissues are high $$$ but the LPs look affordable. And of course it streams...
  17. Thanks for the leads! When I checked Gladden out, I saw some of those live Dexter dates that are on my wish list already. Going to have to bump those up higher.
  18. Damn that's a talented stable of artists. Oh man, for some reason I thought you'd get it.
  19. Forgive me, more Blue Note this morning: Larry Young with Byard Lancaster, George Benson a some folks I'm not so familiar with: Ed Gladden, Herbert Morgan and vocal track from Althea Young. I really enjoyed this album. Young's playing here takes an esoteric turn at times and he plays some really engaging melodies. The Discogs listing shows a total of 6 legit pressings. If that's the case, then this, to me, is an underappreciated classic. Interesting line up with Silver who's playing with Woody Shaw, James Spaulding, Tyrone Washington, Larry Ridley and Roger Humphries. Another excellent record. Every time I hear Horace solo on this, I think about how he didn't record enough trio dates. Hell, maybe he should've been the one to do the Peanuts albums (no offense to VG as I'm a fan). Master tapes of this one are long gone, so its post-Liberty LP pressing are all CDs. But there's an 8-track out there... And now: Such a grooving record this is, and in interesting history regarding some issues having a couple of stereo alts. My UCCQ CD is in mono and lacks those alts that the Conn issue included. No big deal, but one day I'll probably snag that other copy.
  20. Coffee table book you say?
  21. Oh yeah, thanks! Always enjoy a good dub mix
  22. I'll be checking them out for sure.
  23. Jeter is a new name for me. It's not him...nor is it Eddie. That and Steaming Jungle are the ones I don't have. Too Expensive is noteworthy as it's his only major label album. But majors and Keith Hudson just don't go together.
