  1. Disc 2 of this Snapper comp that I bought a long time ago. I haven't listened to some of these Wailers songs in quite some time, having almost memorized everything about them because I was obsessed back in the day. Listening now it strikes me how many of these come across as demos, which I didn't realize with younger ears. Marley, Tosh & Bunny went on to re-record several of these tunes as solo artists with more advanced production and further song development.
  2. Loving these
  3. Some classic roots songs on this comp.
  4. Knepper. See this LA Time obit as the one in the Independent is firewalled: https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-jun-17-me-knepper17-story.html
  5. I'm just reading this thread for the first time. Instabuy/preorder for the Ellington set being discussed above.
  6. No worries I just went over to that site and saw it after I posted and had a cringewince moment.
  7. Other than the Mobley and this Henderson, what other BN sets have they produced recently? Most of it seems to be from other labels, although most are ultimately owned by Universal. I think they stick with CDs because it's in their wheelhouse, financially and aesthetically in terms of what their customers like. Wanted to add, my statement above regarding Bandcamp has nothing to do with any of the moronic reviews currently on the Mosaic site for this set. They should scrub that nonsense ASAP.
  8. I'd rather see Mosaic go full on Bandcamp or another download route than ever do LPs. Leave the vinyl to the Universals of the world who have economies of scale, or the small boutique co's that do one-off or double LPs. Big box sets of vinyl are way outside of the kind of ball park that Mosaic can play in right now.
  9. I dig that album too. My first Mingus was Ah Um and it didn't really grab me. Wasn't until I heard the unedited workshop stuff on the Candid albums that I became a big Mingus fan.
  10. Yep, he does...and Fuller is there too. It's a good album, definitely blues heavy.
  11. Jackie on tenor for the title track, and some funny/interesting studio banter on the Take 1/False start of the same.
  12. Last night, it was this one: B&F LP001, the very first from Blood & Fire. Originally voiced and mixed at King Tubby's. Steve Barrow & co then transferred the original masters for this comp. The tracks here exhibit some excellent mid-late 70s DJ styles and the dub mixes they toast on top of are unique. Love this record.
  13. I think this CD is basically Disc 2 of the Mosaic Desmond set. Then, after that: Disc 1 from this. I love hearing Gales & Riley in a live setting.
  14. Re: downloads, I think most come out eventually under the Capitol Classics (or Capital Vaults - there's a thread about that somewhere around here) line in places like iTunes which are legit, but pretty sure the label is using the mastering that Mosaic paid for.
  15. I have this CD which Wyands is on and he performs really well: For Lawson, I have his playing on Doug Watkins' Soulnik This is all I have of them in my collection. Will seek out more...
  16. I have Structurally Sound on a BN Conn CD so that's the reason for my confusion on that.
  17. I don't listen to this one often, but it's got some great live versions of Punky Reggae Party, Concrete Jungle, Rat Race & Is This Love.
  18. In Between & Structurally Sound are great Booker albums IMO, both from BN.
  19. No issues with that here.
  20. I think by and large they've neglected their website which is the main storefront, and while that's a minor aspect it's something that either needs attention or be deleted. Re: website neglect, they really should not allow those reviews to be posted without admin approval at this point; probably another thing there that should be deleted all together. I'm coming from a place where I want them to succeed and these days web presence is almost everything. Glad to hear they're planning an upgrade and I hope it helps them get more visibility leading to more sales.
  21. Possibly. Did those versions have all of these alternate takes?
