  1. No love for Trombone Shorty? Outside of Covid I don't think he's ever stopped touring.
  2. Thanks for the link! Turrentine playes with a lot of heart. After that 'tine mini-marathon I moved to: Only my second or third time listening to this recent purchase and I'm floored. If I heard this on a BFT I sure wouldn't guess it was a mid-60s Blue Note date. The deconstruction of a kind of calypso beat on Illusion was badass but then these guys go into Hope where Hill switches to harpsichord while Walter Booker arcos - it's crazy good. I'm thinking this may lead to a mini Andrew Hill marathon... Welcome! And that's a great record. Nice way to start!
  3. That's a good way to put it. When I heard them my reaction was that it sounded contrived and forced.
  4. Listening now. Yeah, the percussion with vibes is nice.
  5. I've never given this one an ear, but I've heard some of those BN's and at this point I'm in agreement.
  6. That Blakey track is fantastic
  7. This is one I don't have.
  8. Oh yeah, I love that IQ Shuffle track
  9. This isn't going to be high on my priority list, but I do think the music should be out there and is likely at least 20 years too late in terms of mass release. But at least it's getting out - better late than never. I enjoy my download of the 3 CD set enough. In fact, it's due for another listening session.
  10. Nice! Yeah, maybe on a different day mine would be too...but we do share the sentiment that In Memory Of is the 2nd best no matter how you slice it (still a good/great album IMO). Surprised it sat on the shelf, but business is business.
  11. Summary update: Identified 100% - Songs 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 14 & 15 Partially ID'd: #7 - Song & album unnamed, band ID'd #11 - Song & album unnamed, Tenor player is Frank Wess #12 - Just need the song title as everything else is pretty much ID'd #13 - Song & album unnamed, Charles McPherson on alto Unidentified - Songs 3 & 9 If @Hot Ptah weighs in, I'm betting he can get #3 with no problem. I'm going to remain with the hints I've given so far for #9 at the moment. It's only June 3rd so plenty of time for more listening/guesses. Love reading the takes so far. Appreciate yall giving an ear and time for commentary.
  12. A Turrentine Blue Note morning: For me, ZT's Blues is by far the best of these with In Memory Of coming in second. Another Story is a little lackluster (at least today).
  13. Discogs is down for me right now so I cant use the link to confirm. Is this a cassette?
  14. Damn, I should've known. That's it though. From the Meditations album.
  15. Help me out with LSMFT...the song title's initials are there in that acronym but not sure of the others... For #9: No Shearing or Fournier involved. No Max Roach either.
  16. That's not it, but I'm pretty sure you're going to get it soon.
  17. Love the sleuthing! But no, it's not Strayhorn or Garner...
  18. Nice. I'm all over it.
  19. Oh yeah, that's an oversight. Still, some interesting pieces that were interesting to hear.
  20. You'd definitely like the comp where I pulled this track from. You'll probably find it before the reveal. All I can say is buy with confidence.
  21. That said I bet that Cumbia All Stars comp you linked to is pretty good.
  22. This. There's a small, local punk label here in town that relies on cassettes and 7" records to help hype the bands in their stable. It's pretty successful in that niche, so much so that other small labels around the country picked up on how those pieces of physical media tie the fan to the band and experience (I'm sure this local label wasn't the originator of that practice, but bands that left and moved elsewhere took that method with them and it's still working).
  23. That's it! Nice work man! I don't know for sure, but I think the singers are "Combo Candela" and the band backing them is the Cumbia All Stars. I could be totally wrong about that though. But yep, it's from El Ritmo Es Correcto. My reasoning behind the singers/band separation is due to the back cover of that album: No, but there's a connection.
  24. Sorry for the confusion, but from the source I pulled this song from, it's not the Cumbia All Stars. However, when I play that tune sample via the Amazon music link you sent, it's the same tune. Hmmmm...and looking at that Amazon comp, I'm thinking they may have pulled this track without giving proper credit or mis-crediting the actual group. My source for this song is a comp which I believe gives proper song/band credit as when traced to this band's album shows to be correct. I hope that alleviates some confusion. But indeed, that song sample from your link is the very same tune. There it is.
