  1. The Jeff Lorber Fusion – Wizard Island (Arista, 1980)
  2. Gunter Hampel, Jeanne Lee, Toni Marcus – Waltz For 3 Universes In A Corridor (Birth, 1972) Oosh this is a good one.
  3. I did not know this. This is an excellent fact. Is this the same as the session released as Last Session? They seem to have different tracklistings. Maybe they're from the same date or tour?
  4. Wild Bill Davis – Doin' His Thing (RCA, 1969)
  5. Ha! Okay.
  6. Thanks. What would your second and third Mujician records be, by the way?
  7. In a recent review on an Elton Dean record, FJC mentions that "One of his [Dean's] best known groups came in the 1980s and ’90s, with Paul Dunmall, Paul Rogers, and Tony Levin". We don't appear to have an Elton Dean thread so I thought I'd put this here. What record(s) is the reviewer referring to here? Whilst I'm at it, where would you start with Mujician?
  8. Thanks everyone!
  9. Does anyone have any views on the Jazz I Sverige series? They show up a lot on discogs, and all have beautiful painted covers.
  10. Björn Alkes Kvartett – Jazz I Sverige 1974 (Caprie, 1974) Willis Jackson - In Chateaunueuf du Pape (Black and Blue, 1980) Ralph Moore Quartet – 623 C Street (Criss Cross, 1987)
  11. Deep in a Black & Blue hole for the last few days, and I could not agree more with this statement.
  12. Thanks.
  13. Which are you talking about? I may have heard them, but just in case...
  14. Is this comp's title a pun? I am not getting it.
  15. That's good. I was wondering why she'd gone so quiet album-wise.
  16. Ben Webster With Strings – Music With Feeling (Norgran, 1954)
  17. The Cliffs featuring Mankunku Ngozi – Alex Express (R&T, 1975) Another great one from SA. This time more in a laid back soul jazz / funk vein, but still with the banks of horns. If anyone knows who played on it, other than Ngozi, let me know as there's very little info out there about the group. I think possible Stompie Manana may be on trumpet.
  18. Listening to this one again to perk myself up this morning. A really good late slice of cape jazz with Sipho Gumede on it to give it a modern (for the time) feel.
  19. Thanks everyone. Some interesting stuff. does anyone know whether it did make the poll?
  20. Agent Smith on bari.
  21. It's currently the half centennial anniversary of this Miles Davis record. I remember reading somewhere that, contrary to it's reputation as being hated by the critics at the time, the album actually received a reasonable response. I seem to remember reading that it was number 2 in Downbeat's annual critics poll the year it came out. I have checked an archive of Downbeat on World archive, but unfortunately the Aug 73 issue abruptly turns into the Aug 78 issue. Is any of this true or have I hallucinated all of this?
  22. Pat Matshikiza – Sikiza Matshikiza (The Sun, 1976)
  23. Lonnie Smith – Move Your Hand (Blue Note, 1970) Some earthshaking Ronnie Cuber on here. Ha! Snap! Smoke Sessions really is doing good work at the moment. How's this one?
  24. Boillat Therace Quintet - Boillat Thérace Quintet (PMP, 1974) What did you think?
  25. Nucleus – Under The Sun (Vertigo, 1974) Got to be one of the starkest differences in quality between side one and side two of any record out there.
