It seems to me that a few years back there was a "gay album covers" thread. I thought of one right away, but failed to post it. Now many years later, I see it in a catalogue, and this thread was brought to mind. However, I don't see "gay album covers" on the list. Does anyone else recall that thread, and can maybe provide a link? Thanks!

Anita Ekberg has died at 83. RIP. For years I have wanted to see La Dolce Vita, and it is one of my New Year's Resolutions for this year. So now maybe I'll just order the Criterion DVD and be done with it. http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2015/01/11/la-dolce-vita-actress-anita-ekberg-dies-at-83/?intcmp=latestnews http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/12/movies/anita-ekberg-la-dolce-vita-actress-dies.html?_r=0

I don't know why, but this year I listened to only a small selection of albums. I did not go through my CDs of past years like I normally do, and I did not open up many new acquisitions either. Instead, I listened to the same music over and over. No complaints. These are my new albums of 2014 (in chronological order) which I can recommend to one and all:. Ian Carey & Ben Stolorow - Duocracy Miles - Live 1969 Bootleg The Beatles - Live at the BBC, vol. 2 Mike Longo - Step on It Bernie Worrell - Elevation Shirazette Tinnin - Humility Camille Thurman - Origins Mimi Jones - Balance Zan Stewart - The Street is Making Music Russ Nolan - Relentless Miles - Filmore Bootleg Sonny - Road Shows, vol. 3 Dick Dale - Surfers' Choice Jason Jackson - Inspiration Donald Fagen - Sunken Condo's Mike Longo - Celebrates Oscar Peterson Charles Lloyd - Manhattan Stories Peter Zak - The Disciple

Rod Taylor has died, four days short of his 85th birthday. RIP He was a favorite of mine. He starred in one of my favorite movies, The Liquidator, but I think that he was best known as the star of The Time Machine. Some may argue that he was better known for his role in The Birds. As I recall, he first made his name in the US starring in the TV show Hong Kong. http://www.amazon.com/Liquidator-Rod-Taylor/dp/B008RNYMJC/ref=sr_1_1?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1420847089&sr=1-1&keywords=the+liquidator http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_2_10?url=search-alias%3Dmovies-tv&field-keywords=rod%20taylor%20dvd&sprefix=rod+taylor%2Cmovies-tv%2C200 http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/10/movies/rod-taylor-hollywood-leading-man-who-battled-the-birds-dies-at-84.html?_r=0

The story that I read was that William Paley's wife, Babe Paley, was a New York socialite known for saying "You can never be too rich or too thin." Once she went to lunch with her jet-set friends, and when she arrived, one of them said, "Here's Babe Paley, from the Hillbilly Network." She felt so insulted that when she went home, she insisted to her husband that he cancel the rural shows, and he did.

Stu Miller has died. You may recall that he was said to have the slowest pitch in the majors. My favorite player, Harmon Killebrew, said that he always found Stu Miller to be the toughest pitcher to hit. Joe Garagiola liked to talk about the time Miller was blown off the mound by the Candlestick wind in the '61 All-Star game. I saw that game, and a I recall, the wind merely disrupted his rhythm, causing him to lose his balance. As a result, the balk was called. I always felt that Garagiola was using hyperbole regarding a play that was not particularly shocking. I went to YouTube to find a video of this incident, but didn't find a film - only a mention. Miller discusses this in this AP obit in the NYT. http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/07/sports/baseball/stu-miller-dies-at-87-blown-off-mound-in-all-star-game.html

Allie Sherman has died. I recently read a book about the 1943 Philadelphia Eagles/Pittsburgh Steelers season called Last Team Standing. He was with the Eagles that year, and there was some discussion of him. The author said that after he was let go by the Giants, rather than stay in football, he moved over to Wall Street and made a fortune. I haven't yet found a book about his years with the Bombers. You may recall that shortly after the Giants' fans serenaded him with Goodbye Allie, the Argos' fans serenaded Leo with Goodbye Leo. As a result, Leo called his book Goodbye Argos! http://www.nytimes.com/2015/01/06/sports/football/allie-sherman-giants-coach-in-the-1960s-dies-at-91.html?_r=0 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allie_Sherman http://www.amazon.com/Last-Team-Standing-Steelers-Eagles--/dp/B000WCNXHS/ref=sr_1_1_twi_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1420571289&sr=1-1&keywords=last+team+standing ***** Dominic Picard has signed with the Bombers. http://www.tsn.ca/roughriders-re-sign-anthony-wellman-release-picard-black-1.176054 http://www.tsn.ca/blue-bombers-sign-free-agent-ol-picard-1.176053

What's the most you'd pay for a CD/Album?
GA Russell replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Miscellaneous Music
My most expensive was the first CD I ever bought for myself. It was December of 1988, and it was a British CD of Manfred Mann Chapter III's first album. It cost $21.99. -

Stick to your Army and Navy games, my friend. After watching Army/Navy play to a 3-3 tie in 1981, I vowed never to watch another of their inept games. LOL! Cali, the Army-Navy game is the only one I'm interested in! -
Happy Birthday mg!

I think in the '70s I had all of them. By coincidence, for Christmas I received something called Caravan Live which I haven't opened up yet. In my view the first three are much better than the others, with If I Could being the best. After those three, I would look at Blind Dog at St. Dunstan's.

I like the Slugs recording much more than the Judson Hall. -
Dana, the coldest Grey Cup that I remember watching on TV was the 1991 game in Winnipeg between the Argos and the Stampeders. I don't remember when they decided to play the game at night (for the TV ratings of course), but since we're talking about the last Sunday of November, it wouldn't bother me if all outdoor Grey Cups were to be played in the afternoon.
