The Stampeders have signed Shomari Williams. He's 29 now, and I have to wonder if this will be his last stop. http://www.tsn.ca/stampeders-sign-free-agent-lb-williams-1.227206 http://cfl.ca/article/shomari-to-the-stamps-calgary-inks-former-first-overall-pick ***** For the past three days, the internet has been abuzz about Kory Sheets. Will his injury last year with Oakland prevent him from ever being the same again? Corey Chamblin said in an interview that there were "character issues" when he left the Riders. Would that insult prevent him from returning to Regina? http://www.tsn.ca/sheets-takes-issue-with-chamblin-s-remarks-1.226750 http://cfl.ca/video/index/id/108763 ***** Here's a look at eleven free agents who decided to re-sign with their teams. http://cfl.ca/article/steady-signings-11-free-agents-that-stayed-put ***** New Orleans has offered Brandon Browner $5 million per year, but no word yet on how many years. http://blog.gulflive.com/mississippi-press-sports/2015/03/saints_offer_5_million_per_yea.html ***** Al McCann has died. I think, but I'm not sure, that I met him at the 1978 Grey Cup. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al_McCann_%28broadcaster%29

Yep Can be blamed 100% on the vocalist who cannot properly say the word "deuce". I always thought that it was deliberate, presumably to sell records.

Later today I will read the two items linked. But in the meantime, at the risk of embarrassing myself by saying something that is a point made in the articles, let me say this. Something happened shortly after World War II. I don't know why, but the English-speaking world lost interest in instrumental music. I believe that for the past 45 years, The Ventures have made their living touring Japan. In the '60s, Europeans listened to Willis Conover on Radio Free Europe, and American jazz musicians found work in Europe. But in the US (and presumably Canada and I suppose the British Isles) the only two instrumental acts to make a big splash in my lifetime have been The Tijuana Brass and Kenny G. So I think that there is something going on here that involves more than jazz. And of course, this dislike of instrumental music may explain why classical music is down there with jazz for low record sales.

Unusual ways to open a beer bottle
GA Russell replied to GA Russell's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
Brad, I too had a friend when we were in our mid-20s who would open a beer bottle with his teeth. He was an officer in the Marines! -
Not that I would recommend some of these methods, but... http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2015/03/12/craziest-ways-to-open-beer/?intcmp=features

Larry, do you know what year he wrote that? I wonder who the personalities were that he was thinking of.

Happy Birthday yesterday 2015 to shawn and deus!

I have often read about the Blurred Lines video and a woman in it, but I have never heard the song or seen the video until just now. Although there is the obvious homage in the beat, I didn't hear anything in the melody to remind me of the Gaye song.

Jim, I'm reminded of something from 30 years ago. At that time, I worked for McCrory Variety Stores. You may recall the Roy Rogers restaurant chain, which at that time was owned by Marriott. About 1983, Roy caused a controversy by saying that he was against gun control. The pro-gun control people said that they would boycott the restaurants. My boss said that that is why you should only name a business after someone who is dead. Whatever that dead person did, he has stopped doing anything more, and there won't be any future surprises. I suppose that it is possible that some secret will be unearthed, but I think that my boss was right. (I also recall Col. Sanders criticizing the KFC gravy after he had sold the company to Pepsi. He said that it was like wallpaper paste!)

Well, I downloaded Opera. I clicked on the button to transfer my bookmarks, but it didn't happen as far as I can tell.

jlh, strictly speaking censorship occurs when it is the government which is acting. I gather that since the Terminiello decision places the burden on the police to ensure the safety, in the US the situation would indeed be considered censorship.

Thanks, guys. I quit using IE many years ago because I read that there are far more viruses for it than other browsers.

I've been using Firefox for a number of years, and I've found that I've been having a lot of problems the past few months with everything freezing up. I'm thinking about making a change. What do you think is currently the best-performing browser? Opera? Something else? Thanks!

How would you fare on a WAV to MP3 blindfold test?
GA Russell replied to Hardbopjazz's topic in Audio Talk
Twenty years ago I visited a shop that sold Linn equipment. At one point the Linn rep who was in town gave me an A-B comparison. I could hear a difference, but I wasn't sure which of the two I preferred. -
RIP. I remember him well from BS&T.
