  1. Belated Happy Birthday 2012, umum!
  2. Belated Happy Birthday 2012 romualdo!
  3. What a day! You picked two great games to record, aloc! Toronto Argonauts 33....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 30 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4526627 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404461 What a terrific game! It was a fun first half. Hamilton dominated the third, and appeared to have the game in hand. But Toronto dominated the fourth and took an 8 point lead. With two minutes to go the Ticats scored a TD with the 2 point convert to tie it. With 26 seconds left, Swayze Waters kicked a 33 yard field goal to win it. Chris Williams set two records on one play. He returned his sixth kick of the season (fifth punt) for a TD, and he returned a punt for a TD for the third consecutive game. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/teams/story/?id=404450&hubname=cfl-tiger_cats ***** At this stage of the season, I think it's safe to write off the Bombers. It's possible that they will go on a tear when a healthy Buck Pierce comes back, but the team appears to be in disarray. And despite their decent record, I don't think that the Argos are Grey Cup calibre. The offensive line just isn't good enough. Ricky Ray is a drop back passer, and he hasn't been given time all year. Today the coaches had him running roll out plays, and that's not him. ***** Calgary Stampeders 31....Edmonton Eskimos 30 http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4526669 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/teams/story/?id=404481&hubname=cfl-stampeders Another great game. I think five lead changes. On the last play of the game, Grant Shaw tried a 48 yard FG attempt into the wind to win it. It veered left, and Larry Taylor was able to bring it out of the end zone to avoid the single point and preserve thee victory. ***** Cleveland has cut Solomon Elimimian. He has ten days to sign with another NFL team, or his rights will revert back to BC. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404451
  4. Lon, not to split hairs, but as I understand European law, nothing recorded before 1962 is a bootleg in Europe. All pre-1962 recordings are public domain. So items that were bootlegs ten years ago are no longer. Of course, the US has different copyright law, and US law controls this board.
  5. I respectfully disagree with Bertrand's suggestion to do away with all links. I find the links in the Bargain Box and Bargain DVD Box threads to be very valuable.
  6. Saskatchewan Roughriders 52....Winnipeg Blue Bombers 0 http://www.sportsnet...aspx?id=4526386 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404407 In a battle of last place teams, the Riders snapped a five-game losing streak in a big way. I expect that the Bomber fans will start calling for the head of GM Joe Mack if the Bombers don't win the Banjo Bowl game next week. PS - This was the first time the Bombers have been shut out since 1969. The 52 point victory margin ties the Riders' team record, which I think goes back to 1909.
  7. Clarke-Boland wins with 5 votes to Gerald Wilson's 3, so that's what I have picked up. Thanks everyone for your suggestions!
  8. Texas rookie Jurickson Profar hits a homer in his first major league at bat. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/baseball/nineteen-year-old-profar-homers-in-first-career-at-bat/article4515268/

    Hal David RIP

I hear I Met Him on a Sunday fairly often on Sirius. Of course, I also hear The McCoys' Fever fairly often on Sirius, and that was a very minor hit where I lived in New Orleans.
  10. Perhaps ten years ago I heard 7+7 Is. I didn't think that Musak had many Love fans.

    Hal David RIP

Thanks Jim. As I recall, both Dionne Warwick and The Shirelles recorded for the same label (Wand/Scepter), so I was thinking that it might be a cover of a Shirelles song, but I forgot about that one. Note: I could be wrong about Shirelles being on Wand/Scepter.

    Hal David RIP

The New York Times article says that The Beatles did one of their songs. Does anyone know what that was?
  13. sonnymax, go post your Wess/Coles cover on the multiple images thread!!!
  14. From last night: Montreal Alouettes 30....British Columbia Lions 25 http://www.sportsnet...aspx?id=4525703 http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404281 Great game between two top teams. See-saw battle with Calvillo sharp. ***** Minnesota cut Emmanuel Arcineaux, and offered him a position on their practice squad. He turned them down, and instead signed with Washington. Solomon Elimimian has signed with Cleveland. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404324 ***** Both Justin Hickman and Jerrell Freeman have made the Indianapolis roster. Marcus Thigpen has made the Miami roster. No links yet.
  15. I think the fact that 27.7% of America has puchased a CD/mp3 in the past month is very encouraging.
  16. Last call for alcohol! Clarke/Boland is leading, and that's what I'll get unless the group has other ideas.
  17. Lionel Wild Week 10 picks http://www.cflblogzone.com/2012/08/cfl-week-10-games-power-rankings/ ***** Lowell Ullrich Week 10 picks http://www.cflblogzone.com/2012/08/the-week-ahead-classic-cfl-picks-for-labour-day/ ***** The NBC Sports cable channel will carry three games this weekend: tonight's game at 7:30 pm eastern, and Monday's doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
  18. Apparently that video of Jim Marshall shows George Mira, later of the Montreal Alouettes, throwing to halfback Billy Kilmer, later the quarterback of the Redskins.
  19. ;As the article said, my thought was that the stupidity was on the part of the receiving team who tackled him!
  20. Jerome Messam has returned to the Eskimos. That gives the teams four fine running backs. I have to think that they will trade one. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404177
  21. RIP. Wasn't it Chatsworth Osborne the Third?
  22. I think that in any sport, the quality of the officials is more important than the quality of the players. Watching a game with incompetent refs (or umps) is a waste of time.
  23. The last legal challenge to the redevelopment of Lansdowne Park was turned down today by Ontario's highest court. This means that Ottawa's getting a team is on the horizon. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404104
  24. Carolina has decided to cut Olindo Mare and keep Justin Medlock. http://www.theglobea...article4506852/ ***** The Riders have signed both Joe Lobendahn and Diamond Ferri. http://www.tsn.ca/cfl/story/?id=404059 ***** Greg Xenakes Week 10 picks http://www.sportsnet...aspx?id=4524871
  25. I think that this is the most unusual press release I have ever received, so I thought you would like to see it too. This is a tenor sax who has recorded with Kenny Werner who spends much of his free time salsa dancing! Are any of you New Yorkers familiar with him? Tenor Saxophonist/Composer Russ Nolan To Release 3rd Album "Tell Me" September 25 Quartet/Quintet Session for Rhinoceruss Music Was Produced by Zach Brock & Features Pianist Art Hirahara, Bassist Michael O'Brien, Drummer Brian Fishler, & Violinist Zach Brock August 28, 2012 In the ten years since his move to New York City from Chicago, tenor saxophonist/composer/arranger Russ Nolan has made great strides in advancing his musical career. He immersed himself in the scene, playing and collaborating with a wide range of musicians. He made his first recordings as a leader-the quartet date Two Colors (2004) and the much-praised With You in Mind (2008), on which he was backed by the Kenny Werner Trio. And, less typically, he hit the dance floor, becoming an active and accomplished salsa dancer. It was Nolan's experiences as a dancer over the last five years that led to the conception and execution of his forthcoming CD Tell Me, which his Rhinoceruss Music label will release on September 28. "On the dance floor, you key off of a rhythm," he says. "Getting it into my body helped my sense of time. I became a lot freer with rhythm." Latin rhythms assert themselves in unexpected places and in unexpected ways on the new album, produced by and featuring violin sensation Zach Brock. "Russ and I began our musical relationship over ten years ago in Chicago," says Brock. "I feel privileged to have worked on both the production and performance aspects of this recording. The band is top-notch, the music is both challenging and accessible, and the bandleader is a truly inspiring soloist, writer, and arranger." Nolan is a powerful tenor player who strikes a soulful balance between a classic, hard-edged sound and the airier tones and textures popularized by Michael Brecker. As an arranger he applies his distinctive touch to an array of material including Joe Zawinul's "A Remark You Made," John Lennon's "Nowhere Man," and, most strikingly, Oliver Nelson's "Stolen Moments." "The singer I wrote it for didn't like 6/8, so I kept it for myself," Nolan says of the dynamic chart. For the new disc, Nolan put together a strong quartet comprised of Art Hirahara, the San Francisco native whose second album, Noble Path, was released last year on Posi-Tone; bassist Michael O'Brien, who plays with Brazilian guitarist Sandro Albert; and drummer Brian Fishler. (Producer/violinist Zach Brock appears on three tracks.) "We're a band," Nolan says. "We've spent a lot of time together. These guys may not be well known yet, but they can really play." Russ Nolan, 44, was born and raised in Gurnee, Illinois (halfway between Chicago and Milwaukee), where he was a star basketball and baseball player and also played in the school marching and jazz bands. After a few semesters at Northern Illinois University, Nolan ended up in the vaunted jazz program at North Texas State (now known as the University of North Texas). He became friends there with fellow saxophonist Jeff Coffin, with whom he played in a three-tenor band also featuring Larry Panella. Back in Chicago, however, he played very little music from 1994 until the end of the decade. Then he was contracted to play in the orchestra that backed singer Kurt Elling at Mayor Richard M. Daley's big millennium bash. That was where he first met Brock, with whom he subsequently played in a quintet of musicians associated with the Bloom School of Jazz. Yet the Windy City was never the right fit for Nolan. The more he studied and played with visiting New Yorkers including Chris Potter, Kenny Werner, and Dave Liebman -- and the more they encouraged him to move to the Big Apple -- the more he knew he had to go East if he was going to make anything of his career. He made the move six months after 9/11, settling in Sunnyside, Queens. It wasn't easy getting gigs, but being in the jazz capital of the world rejuvenated him. (He also met his wife, Luz, while pursuing his salsa dance muse.) "Playing here is everything I could have hoped for," he says. "There's such a strong sense of community that phrases like 'Hey, let's try this' and 'I think this would work better here' help create the dynamic and progressive music this city is known for."
