  1. Since Valerie got Ruta Lee and Chuck is a babe expert, they'll probably get this too.
  2. I think I'm kind of famous for that! When I buy a box set, I never open up more than two CDs per year. And I have a ton I haven't listened to yet from ten years ago when I went wild with BMG.
  3. Correct, Chuck! It's Jack Jones! Here's his Original album Classics box: http://www.amazon.com/Original-Album-Classics-Colin-Blunstone/dp/B0030BCCAM/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1318216555&sr=1-1
  4. The other night I watched the Ann Henry episode. Does anyone know anything about her? I find it a bit odd that a black female singer whom I've never heard of had enough pull to land a singing-but-not-acting gig on a network TV show. Maybe she was a friend of John Cassavetes. All I could find of her was that she had bit parts here and in The Beverly Hillbillies. http://www.tv.com/people/ann-henry/
  5. OK, I guess you don't recognize him. Last hint: He was the lead singer for The Zombies.
  6. spotify: The Critters - Younger Girl Strawberry Alarm Clock - Incense & Peppermint
  7. I see good news and bad news. The good news was that in a time when self-made billionaires are typically Wall Street paper traders, Jobs was actually "in the business" (really multiple businesses - computers, music, telephones, film animation). I believe that the businessmen who are "in the business" move the world forward, and we need more of them. The bad news was that he was known for abusing his employees, completely disregarding the Golden Rule. That is not a small defect.
  8. I think it's noteworthy that there are multiple bidders wiling to spend billions of dollars when the recording industry seems to be going downhill fast.
  9. British Columbia Lions 33....Calgary Stampeders 31 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4442027 The best game of the season so far! Seesaw battle with lots of big plays. Dave Ridgeway set the record for consecutive field goals at 28 in 1993. Paul McCallum broke it tonight by kicking his 29th and 30th. On his attempt for his 31st with 4:27 left in the game, he missed, and Larry Taylor ran it back 122 yards for a touchdown to give the Stamps a one-point lead. On the last play of the game, McCallum hit a 53 yarder to win it.
  10. OK. here's a hint: He had three hits with his group, but none out on his own.
  11. I would like to know the thoughts of Bud Adams and Ralph Wilson.
  12. Here's the AP obit. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/raiders-al-davis-dies-at-age-82/article2195580/
  13. marcello, I see that on your birthday in 1956 Don Larsen pitched his perfect game!
  14. Winnipeg Blue Bombers 32....Hamilton Tiger-Cats 17 http://64.246.64.33/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=cfl/news/news.aspx?id=4441745 The score makes the game look much closer than it was. With the win, the Bombers clinch their first playoff spot since 2008.
  15. I've been listening to him on spotify.
  16. Happy Birthday 2011 Tom!

  19. There will be a double header on Monday, Canadian Thanksgiving Day. ***** Globe week 15 picks http://www.theglobeandmail.com/sports/football/week-15/article2193731/
  20. I'm enjoying the Donald Harrison - This is Jazz. It's different from other power trios I have heard because Harrison is not as much of a power horn player. It's a Ron Carter album almost as much as a Harrison album. Billy Cobham pretty much stays in the background. At times it reminds me of a trio from the early 70s called Back Door which you may recall. By the way, this was recorded just last March.
  21. Just as many people have the urge to buy a record album immediately following the death of a singer, I wonder if people will have the urge to buy an Apple product immediately upon the death of Steve Jobs.
  22. Is that Sigourney Weaver?
  23. Happy Birthday 2011 Duke!
  24. I had a feeling this one might be impossible. Think '80s TV. Hint: She played a role made famous by... Well, since even Valerie can't guess (and since apparently Jim isn't cheating this time! ), I'll reveal our mystery guest. Her name is Caryn Richman, and her most famous role was as the star of The New Gidget in the 80s. At the time, I thought that she and Stephanie Zimbalist were the two most beautiful women in the world. I have since seen her in a car commercial (Honda?) and in a supermarket video telling shoppers what aisle they can find things on. I'll let you compare who has fared better in the past twenty-five years. The top photo is a picture of her today. Here's what Stephanie Zimbalist looks like today. I think they both still look great. Yikes! How do I make the picture smaller? PS - It also occurs to me that I saw Caryn Richman in Atlanta ca. 1990 in the touring company of Grease.
  25. When I saw Sonny in Atlanta twenty years ago, he was introduced as "the most influential living jazz saxophonist in the world". But it's not clear to me how influential Sonny has been. Perhaps I mistakenly give the credit due Sonny to Coleman Hawkins instead. Can anyone name some tenors who would have sounded differently if Sonny had never been born?
