It was nice and sunny as I arrived to work this morning in Toronto. It is now pitch black - severe thunderstorm. This weekend is our long weekend and I had planned on going camping in Algonquin Park. But I called the park yesterday and the guy said the black-flies are in full-force . That and the expected rain/cool weather for the weekend is going to keep me at home with a few cold ones instead. No BungHole here in Canada unfortunately.

One of my favourite tunes from LA punk band the Derita Sisters: Kill Michael Bolton (You might have to paste URL into your player)

New Sonic Youth Album - 'Rather Ripped' - June 13th

Thanks. Traditionally, as the warm weather arrives and the beer becomes plentiful, my taste for feedback starts to re-develop once again. I'll have to check these out. -

I liked the video very much. Birthday suggestion for Jim? -

Once one of my favourite bands, I've been out of the loop for the past decade with them. Last concert - the Dirty tour. Last album - the disappointing "Experimental Jet Set, Trash & No Star". I've heard good things about Murray Street. I know they also came out with a few of those homages to avant garde composers. I'm open to any recommendations for the recent material. -
I am the Internet Producer and Web Writer for a large professional services corporation. I am required to be on the Net most of the day.

I think I've now spent half of my day at work listening to/watching youtube. Thanks guys

OMG - there's a ton of Beefheart on the site. Randy, that must have been a great night. I can't top that, but I did see Zappa in August 84 at Meadow Brook Music Festival, Rochester Hills, 2 days before this NYC show. They ended with this tune: Whipping Post

I noticed that a few complete episodes of the Twilight Zone are on youtube. I plan to watch the classic one with my son this weekend - the one with William Shatner seeing the monster on the wing of his plane, and no one beleiving it. My son only knows the parodied Simpson's version. Twilight Zone - Nightmare At 20,000 Feet

I went a little nuts for Axiom in the 90s! See this - it's da bomb! (bill laswell, buckethead, bootsy collins, bernie worrell)

Brian Eno & David Byrne - Mea Culpa

I give PG credit for doing that. Plus I learned a ton from listening to the Sources album. I now rarely listen to Passion. As for My Life, I recently gave it a spin, and I'm not sure it holds up for me. The first 3 tracks do, and I still dig the extra track, Very Very Hungry, but overall I start hearing Talking Heads or David van Tiegham albums in my head. There is something early 80s about the synths, though the samples are good. I think digital effects racks were just geting more sophisticated then too. Going to have to spin my vinyl of Catherine Wheel and Casual Gods soon. I wonder if I will have this same feeling when I spin my Bill Laswell stuff. I got into his 90s trance, ambient, world fusion stuff at one point, but I've not listened in a bit.

I see a cord on the left side. That's where the Rhodes output jack is, next to Volume and Bass Boost. I like that guy's belt! almost as thick as his chops. First electric piano I heard on record: "What I say" - Ray Charles (Wurley); "Sun Goddess" - Ramsey Lewis (Rhodes). Then of course later in the 80s with Peter Cetera on the Yamaha DX7

35 million a day! But, still - no Earl Hines, Errol Garner or Teddy Wilson. but some Waller! http://www.youtube.com/results?search=fats...e=search_videos

That's not too bad - but I won't buy it. The treatment works for "Jamie's Crying" but not the "Cradle will rock" (which should only be heard in the original)

I just discovered this site www.prx.org. You have to sign up, but it's free. "Programmers find and air work from other stations, independent producers and international broadcasters. Producers - station-based or independent - license their work directly to stations. " There's some neat stuff here, and jazz of course. I've only had a short time to go here http://www.prx.org/series/5836/pieces

Looking for a business partner
Robert J replied to dutchmanx's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
He's got a legitimate site selling CDs etc and is looking to expand: We`ll give you 5% of all sales made when you refer people to GEMM. If you run a web site, publication, or print advertising seen by people who are likely to be interested in GEMM, or even if you just have a few friends and colleagues that you think would enjoy shopping in our catalog, this is a great opportunity for you to make some easy money. Still - now here's a real business opportunity. Start a jazz radio station. -
I wish I could dance, but I've always been clumsy, self-conscious, fearful, embarassed and rigid. I don't think I've ever danced sober either, and I'll be re-reminded of these facts next week at a wedding I'm attending. Of course, hypocrite that I am, when people say "cool, you play an instrument. I wish I could"; I confidently say "it's never too late to start, anyone can learn if they try, it's OK to be a beginner, etc.

Depends on where you are in Canada. Toronto didn't make the playoffs, but if you are in Edmonton (sorry Wings), it would be all about hockey. In Toronto, we're now thinking about patios and jazz festivals.

This event looks very interesting. I'll probably take in the Barry Harris tribute. http://www.artofjazz.org/ Still - this is the long May weekend in Canada ("May 2-4") and I have camping plans after Thursday.

Hard to believe - but I think I am a better person because I listened to BS during the crazy days of young teenhood.

I use Irfanview all the time at work and at home for resizing. Its the best free thing around.

Saw this on Wikipedia. Another thing I did not know about the band. I recall a quote from John Paul Jones when he was touring/working with singer Diamanda Galas. She was interested in covering a Sabbath tune, and JPJ argued against it: "They were not really that great of a band". And another (on Zep touring): "We didn’t have a string of off nights. Who do you think we were, Black Sabbath? "

You ever hear the Butthole Surfers version - Sweat Loaf?
-
I spent many afternoons in rec rooms listening to Sabbath. "I love you Sweet Leaf."
