Matthew's Psychedelic Comp Recommendation of the Year
PHILLYQ replied to Matthew's topic in Recommendations
Listened to some samples on Amazon and they sound way cool. I had a Paypal balance so I ordered off of Ebay. Thanks for the tip. I was listening recently to some fusion from Indonesia(Tohpati) that was pretty good. -
he's also known as 'Veal'

Great boxer and by all accounts a true gentleman. RIP

I went through a similar thing with the Yankess this season. For awhile the pitching stunk and they didn't hit with men on at all. They lost to crappy teams and looked like they had no chance to make the playoffs. Well, the last 7 games the pitching has been very good, they still don't hit with men on, but they're winning and hope springs eternal...

Do any of them have a ring?

What do our linguistic "traditionalists" think of this?

Twenty years ago was 'google' a verb? Now if I say I 'googled' something everyone knows exactly what I mean. -
If OKC can keep the core of this group together they could win a few titles.
-
They are favored, and rather strongly. I Googled and found the following odds: - Oklahoma City Thunder 1/2 - Miami Heat 13/4 - Boston Celtics 9/2 Besides the young legs, OKC can be explosive, scoring a ton of points real fast. I saw in last night's game that Durant missed a couple free throws in the 4th quarter and I realized that he may actually be human. I was starting to think he was a robot/cyborg, because it seemed like he didn't miss late in the game. Amazing player.

Shipped to the US it's about $84

Spurs had plenty of chances to win but couldn't make shots and OKC did. I watched most of the 3rd and all of the 4th, good game, both teams had chances and it was hard-fought but not chippy.

The first article I started to read was quite ironic in view of what happened two years later. Bill Lange goes on about how baseball is the most honest sport!

SI.com's Ian Thomsen felt that was a James foul, not a Garnett foul - here's his description of the play today: "...and then when Boston was seeking to reclaim the lead, James would hook his left arm under Garnett's right armpit and pull Garnett down on top of him. If a footballer for Liverpool (the team James owns in a minority role) had done such a thing the press in England would have decried it as a "cynical" foul, but in our country it goes down as ingenuity." OK, he gets an old pair of my glasses. What I saw was Garnett hooking arms frequently, and on that particular play Garnett initiated the contact & also grabbed LBJ's hand and gave LBJ a shoulder.
-
I think I want to send my glasses to Jeff Van Gundy. he needs better glasses desperately and mine are pretty powerful. There was a play late in the Celtics/Heat game where Garnett was called for a foul and JVG was saying he didn't see it. On the play, Garnett locks his arm on LBJ, then grabs LBJ's hand with his free arm, and when LBJ tries to pull his arm out Garnett gives LBJ a shoulder to the chest. By my count Garnett committed three fouls on the play, but JVG doesn't see a foul. I have no rooting interest in the series, but I'm seeing more and more why Garnett was voted by NBA players in the top three of dirty players. That was one small sequence, but Garnett did many other questionable plays that were not called.

The Padres are now the only team without a no-no.
-
He threw 134 pitches, the most he's ever thrown in one game. Hopefully, there are no lingering after effects. I know it would have been unthinkable to pull him when he's pitching a no-no, but, man, that is really pushing the envelope. After major arm surgery, he's now thrown two complete game shutouts in a row with tonight's no-no. Amazing, I tip my cap to him and I'm a Yank fan.

Henry Threadgill's Tomorrow Sunny / The Revelry, Spp

I saw this group previewing the music at Roulette in February. If the disc is anywhere close to what they played live it'll be a smoker. -
He's on an Akira Sakata disc titled 'Fisherman.com' with Laswell & Hamid Drake. Great disc, very hard to find.

RIP to a GREAT musician and guitarist who was not bound by labels. Besides spending many hours listening to his recordings with Miles and others, I was fortunate to see him in Miles' band many times between '73 & '75. His playing was mesmerizing and liberating all at once.

The big question on Oswalt is his back- is it OK now, will it hold up?
-
One bright spot for the Braves or any other NL East team is that nobody is running away with it. Any team that can get hot for a couple weeks will be in first with a nice lead.

Yeah, caught some of that before watching a movie...how can he, in his mid 80's, still do the work of 2 broadcasters??? I was also thinking how someone , say 20 years old in 1950, could have listened to him do Brooklyn Dodger games, now, 62 plus years later, flips through the channels late night in May of 2012, and hears him still broadcasting Dodger games... One of the most refreshing aspects of Scully is that he knows when to shut up. It can be so annoying when you have these three man booths and they feel that someone has to be talking all the time. You get lots of inanities and even more plain hot air. A couple of years ago Ken Singleton & Paul O'Neill were due to broadcast a Yanks/Os game in Baltimore. O'Neill had plane problems and never made it to the game, so Singleton did it solo. It was a joy to listen to, Singleton let the pictures tell the story at times, and he actually let the game breathe. I wish we could get more games called by one guy. I think Michael Kay is the biggest blowhard of the bunch, not to mention John Sterling on the radio. Kay is a bigmouth, but IMHO no one is as bad as Sterling. 'It is high, it is far, it is-caught by the second baseman'. Worst on radio by a mile.

Howard's 'Should I Stay or Should I go Now' shtick is tired. Orlando's best move might be to deal Howard(bad back + bad attitude), amnesty Turkeyglue and rebuild with some cap room.
