Wow....Sandusky should do his victims and the world a favor and kill himself. Creating a foundation to help troubled youth , then going out of your way to harm them, is about as evil as it gets. And the D.A. just.....disappeared???? The foundation is a way to keep up a steady supply of young boys, much like you may find molesters working as sports coaches for kids, etc. -
I just finished watching it and it's brilliant! Thanks so much for posting the link.

That is some scary stuff and it appears that it's not an isolated incident either. IIRC, another player had some family members kidnapped in Venezuela.

I got it a few days ago(CD Imports on Amazon. I was a bit hesitant because I had ordered something previously from them and they didn't have it. Got a refund though, without any hassle) and gave it a spin and I think it's GREAT. I had never heard it previously and I was wary about ordering it due to the instrumentation. Cello instead of bass led me to think it might sound a bit tinny or stiff as far as the rhythm goes. I was completely wrong. The music is raw, it swings like mad and doesn't sound the least bit tinny or stiff. Kudos to JLH for an excellent reissue, bith in terms of sound and packaging. Please let us know of any future releases, there's sure to be a lot of interest.

Yeah, and still no Cleveland show. I wonder if it's still on the table. I had to get the Mahavishnu set- I was at one of the Central Park nights.

I was made particularly nauseous by Matt Millen's comments about Sandusky. Apparently Matt knows the guy, knows what he stands for, and wouldn't at all be surprised if all the charges amounted to nothing. That said, Matt continued, people do make mistakes... Mistakes. That's how Matt categorizes molesting and ruining the lives of children. To him, apparently it's just an understandable character flaw that occasionally comes to light. Shameful. That is nauseating. -
happy Birthday, Jeff! Pleae do another disc of Afro-Klezmer stuff, the last one was really cool.

1)He could make sure that Sanduasky gets nowhere near the campus and has no association with the school 2) He could CALL THE COPS- this is a very serious crime. 3)He could ask the AD, college President, etc what happened to the allegations against Sandusky 4) He could contact the graduate assistant and see what happened as a result of the allegations 5) Threaten to go public on Sandusky if he doesn't come clean PATERNO DID NONE OF THE ABOVE Sure, he may have done the technical minimum required of him as an employee at Penn State, but he has an obligation as a human being, a father, an adult responsible for young people entrusted to his care to do much more. He failed in that miserably, probably to save face for the college. -

Love Ali but hate what he did to Frazier. Frazier was an honorable man in a world very short of honorable people. RIP to a true champion in and out of the ring. -

The more that is coming out the more I'm thinking that everyone, Paterno included should go. They all knew that something very wrong was going on there and they didn't act in a manner that was intended to make it stop. They were more interested in preserving the image of the school and the folks running the athletic department. If I'm in the shoes of any of these people and I hear 'inappropriate' 'child' and 'Sandusky' in close proximity I CALL THE COPS! I also make damn sure that this guy doesn't even get to breathe the surrounding air of the college or any of its satellites. Nobody did any of that to their eternal shame. -
Ravens/Steelers was a hard-hitting game and very intense. I thought the Steelers had it in in the bag but the Ravens made some big plays at the end.

Melky's a pretty decent player, definitely plays hard, great arm. He was a nice player on the Yanks and is still popular in NYC.

Packers still undefeated, 49ers have one loss. Don't know how many folks got to see it, but the Giants/Pats game was excellent! Scoreless at the half, lead changes in the 4th quarter and just when it looke dlike the pats had the game the Giants score late and win. I'm a Giant fan and I was high in the 3rd quarter as the Giants looked great, low in the 4th as the Pats tied and went ahead, then finished on a high as the Giants won. Jet fans were also very happy at the result. A great game for football fans.

I bought that one many moons ago, great disc.

IF Thome can still play some first he might be a hedge against Howard's injury.Otherwise it's strictly pinch hitting.

Since game logs are easily available on baseball-reference, we have both the averages and every game box score and stats. So one can easily look at this stuff and see that variation is such that surprise surprise, the averages do indeed show what a typical game was like. Yes, there are instances where in his wildest year as an Angel (when he averaged 6.1 walks per game) where he'd only walk 2 and others where he'd walk 8. But in 18 games out of 37 starts he walked 6 or 7. That's pretty much your typical average. If you were to go to the ballpark it was a coin flip that he'd walk 6-7 rather than some other number. But if that sort of thing bothers you, the logs are at your fingertips, and they can fun to look at if you're feeling nostalgic or are withdrawing from no baseball being played. It boggles the mind sometimes to look back at how pitchers were allowed to go so deep into games before the relief specialists came about, even when you remember this being the case. Forget your garden variety complete games, 3 times he went into extra innings that year. An 11 inning with 7 walks and "just" 11 Ks. 10 innings against the expansion Blue Jays with 5 walks and 19 Ks. Just look at the end of April to the end of May. Following a game he lost in the 10th he isn't allowed to finish the last out in the 9th. After that a run of complete games for May. Your arm will hurt if you check out the game logs of other aces in first years of the DH from '73 to the end of the '70s, be it the hall of famers or guys like Mickey Lolich. The attitude was "if you don't ever have to bat for the pitcher, then let him pitch." As far as great starters of the past 40 some years, Pedro Martinez had 6 years out of 7 (1 lost due to injury) where he ruled the world. Just because 1 year of greatness happened in Montreal is no reason to forget this, nor is his odd "I don't want to be like Walter Payton in the Super Bowl" World Series moment in 2004 a reason to discount it either (or trying to take The Gerbil's head off.) There was a game he pitched against the Yankees that was one of the most dominant pitching performances I've ever seen. He gave up one hit(a HR by Chili Davis), walked none and struck out 18! A ground ball was a moral victory for the Yanks in that game.Pedro was pitching at 97-98 over the corners and the ball was wigglin'. Absolutely amazing.

I'm wary of the Yu Darvish sweepstakes because of the Kei Igawa fiasco. Dice-K wasn't exactly brilliant as a Bosock either. If the Yanks can get Oswalt on a 1 or 2 year deal and if his back is OK... Buerhle may be an interesting signing, as long as it's not long-term.

How about a V.S.O.P. tribute band? The Nels Cline/Greg Bendian disc was a tribute, but they did the music differently, with different instrumentation and a fresh take on the music. That's OK by me, it's the slavish imitation/recreation that doesn't float my boat.
-
Tribute concerts are all the rage now(marketing hook?).There's so much rehashing of what was that we lose sight of what is.
-
Do you recall when a bunch of Cowboy players had cocaine problems and they were known as 'South Americas team'? That still makes me laugh.

Rumors of Jose Reyes interest by the Giants. Not a big bat, but he might be a good sparkplug. I'm curious to see what happens with C.J. Wilson. He did nothing to enhance his standing in the playoffs and World Series.

From what I was seeing this week in the sports pages in NYC the Rangers are actually in very good shape for the present and future. They have a deep farm system, good attendance, no onerous contracts(Cubs still have Soruiano and Zambrano making BIG $$, Mets have Santana & Bay)and people in charge who have a clue. They look to be a contender for awhile.

I'm a Yankee fan and I'd like to see him not win- he always seemed so damn smug. He can hit, though. LaRussa is another I can't take a liking to- he acts like he invented baseball and the sporting media genuflect whenever he speaks. If any other manager caught a DUI they'd be calling for his heaf, but LaRussa slides.
