He threw 134 pitches, the most he's ever thrown in one game. Hopefully, there are no lingering after effects. I know it would have been unthinkable to pull him when he's pitching a no-no, but, man, that is really pushing the envelope. After major arm surgery, he's now thrown two complete game shutouts in a row with tonight's no-no. Amazing, I tip my cap to him and I'm a Yank fan.

Henry Threadgill's Tomorrow Sunny / The Revelry, Spp
PHILLYQ replied to JSngry's topic in New Releases
I saw this group previewing the music at Roulette in February. If the disc is anywhere close to what they played live it'll be a smoker. -
He's on an Akira Sakata disc titled 'Fisherman.com' with Laswell & Hamid Drake. Great disc, very hard to find.

RIP to a GREAT musician and guitarist who was not bound by labels. Besides spending many hours listening to his recordings with Miles and others, I was fortunate to see him in Miles' band many times between '73 & '75. His playing was mesmerizing and liberating all at once.

The big question on Oswalt is his back- is it OK now, will it hold up?

One bright spot for the Braves or any other NL East team is that nobody is running away with it. Any team that can get hot for a couple weeks will be in first with a nice lead.

Yeah, caught some of that before watching a movie...how can he, in his mid 80's, still do the work of 2 broadcasters??? I was also thinking how someone , say 20 years old in 1950, could have listened to him do Brooklyn Dodger games, now, 62 plus years later, flips through the channels late night in May of 2012, and hears him still broadcasting Dodger games... One of the most refreshing aspects of Scully is that he knows when to shut up. It can be so annoying when you have these three man booths and they feel that someone has to be talking all the time. You get lots of inanities and even more plain hot air. A couple of years ago Ken Singleton & Paul O'Neill were due to broadcast a Yanks/Os game in Baltimore. O'Neill had plane problems and never made it to the game, so Singleton did it solo. It was a joy to listen to, Singleton let the pictures tell the story at times, and he actually let the game breathe. I wish we could get more games called by one guy. I think Michael Kay is the biggest blowhard of the bunch, not to mention John Sterling on the radio. Kay is a bigmouth, but IMHO no one is as bad as Sterling. 'It is high, it is far, it is-caught by the second baseman'. Worst on radio by a mile.

Howard's 'Should I Stay or Should I go Now' shtick is tired. Orlando's best move might be to deal Howard(bad back + bad attitude), amnesty Turkeyglue and rebuild with some cap room.

Poetry with jazz always reminds me of a horrible experience I had at a Vision Fest. Khan Jamal was playing an absolutely scorching set that was ruined by some poetess(Sherilynn Fenn?sp)who never seemed to know when to come in, when to lay out, dynamics, rhythm. If that set were recorded and her part ecxised it would have been amazing. Ah well... -
Garnett was voted in the top three of dirty players in a poll of players IIRC.

I went to Roulette in February to see Threadgill, and it is a nice venue. The location is close to the Atlantic Avenue station, so there's a ton of NYC subway lines(2,3,4,5,Q,N,R,C,G,B,D) and the LIRR -
Overlooked/Ignored/Neglected Grammar! I went to a Jesuit high school, and what I was taught there led me to give up Catholicism!!

oliver Lake is playing as part of Trio3, but good point Chuck about the lack of AACM folks. -
This could be a classic matchup of the experienced veteran team against the young(and very talented) team. Looks to be verrrry interesting. I like the Thunder also, but it wouldn't surprise me to see the Spurs win it all.

An awful lot of who stays and who goes depends on contracts. MWP is pretty much untradeable, given his beahavior and possibly his contract. Gasol may also have a contract that nobody will take on. I heard one commentator yesterday suggest bynum for Dwight Howard, but do the Lakers want a whiner who just had back surgery? Contracts may force the Lakers to pretty much stand pat unless they can make some creative trades. They're pretty much guarateed to have an interesting offseason.

ROVA gone, anybody else?

Mahavishnu Orchestra, 'The Inner Mounting Flame'(I was 16). It got me to 'Live/Evil' which got me to everybody else.

Happy Bithday Chuck from Brooklyn NY!!!!!

Near the end of last night's Lakers-OKC, Durant has the ball, is double teamed, hit by BOTH Lakers and knocked on his ass, but no whistle! Stevie Wonder calls that foul. I started to think that Metta World Peace would have to elbow Durant for a whistle...
