  1. Pretty much this entire record but especially the ridiculous head on "Snap Crackle". Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've ever made a jazz mixtape without this song on it.... B-)
  2. I am very seldom interested their journal articles. Too much emphasis on "classical" and cylinder-era recordings. Entirely too little information concerning preservation issues which, as any member of the listserv will tell you, accounts for at least half of the posts. I have expressed my distaste for this tendency a number of times on the list.
  3. That seems chronologically impossible. Wynton Marsalis was born in 1961. Oh, yeah, right. My bad. I was thinking of the other day that will forever live in infamy. Nice.....
  4. Just curious, especially given some of the rabid collecters we have here, if anyone else is a member of the Association for Recorded Sound Collections (ARSC). It's mostly an organization for institutions (libraries, archives, etc) but there is certainly no shortage individual members. There are also quite a few engineers and preservation specialists. I bring this up partialy because the annual convention is in Austin this March--I want to know who to look out for--and also because the ARSC listserv is a very useful tool regarding degradation and preservation issues; something that comes up quite often in the "Audio Talk" section here. They also have a link to the listserv archive, which I consult on a regular basis.
  5. Borat is easily my favorite character on that show.
  6. "Ginza Samba" has to be one of the happiest songs ever committed to disc. I find it impossible not to smile when the head kicks in.....
  7. Wierd. There seem to be several covers....
  8. That's Black Beauty White Heat, right?
  9. I gotta listen to it again. I remeber liking it quite a bit but. As I've said before, any date with either Moncur or Al Shorter is bound to bear their artistsic stamp. So what happens when both of them are on the same session.....? Yeah, it's gonna be pretty heavy.
  10. The Casavetes box is only $89 on there as well.
  11. Hadn't heard of that site until now. Too bad I didn't know about it when I bought that Suzuki the other day.... Thanks!
  12. I believe most of those Dutch Fontanas were available as Japanese CDs at one point or another. My buddy Tim got the Marion Brown (same issue as that NYAQ) when he was over there a handful of years ago. Regardless, 141 bucks for a damned CD?! Gimmie a break, people.....
  13. De La Soul (feat. Ghostface) - "He Comes"
  14. The Third Man is part of the rare breed of Criterions that go for $40 despite being only one disc. That's just about the only reason I haven't bought it yet. BTW: Saw it on the big screen last summer and man did it look great!
  15. False alarm. Someone brought me one just now.
  16. Hey folks, I need a S/PDIF card for a PC workstation. I will be using an Apogee Rosetta 200 as my A/D and it will be used more for quality control checks and playback than hi-res preservation capture. Any recommendations? Thanks, Brandon
  17. That's hilarious. Thanks for posting that link!
  18. I've never ordered anything from Dusty Groove. Bought a Harold Land OJC LP at the brick and mortar about five years ago but that's about it. They way I see it, there's nothing at DG that I couldn't get somewhere else and their used stuff is outrageously overpriced. What's not to love....?
  19. Has anyone mentioned Träd Gräs och Stenar yet?
  20. I've had a couple different email conversations with Jon Mulvaney about why a Criterion issue of Tom Waits' Big Time would be a good idea. For starters it's never been on DVD ever. As a result, even crappy old VHS copies go for around $50 on ebay. So there's some built in sales numbers right there. Also, they issued two films staring Waits in the past year and a half: Down By Law, Short Cuts. So it seems like there's an audience for it. Oh.... and it's a great film to. B-)
  21. Those marketing people are so sweet. Yeah, no shit. Especially since older iPods like mine have a "shuffle" setting anyway.
  22. Hey, it worked for Parsons..... [EDIT: found a photo.]
  23. By the way, I watched Youth of the Beast last night and loved it. Really creative cinematography, use of color, etc and, as perhaps expected, there's no shortage of totally bizzare non sequiter moments. (EX: teenage girls dancing in the middle of the street to a jukebox that's....also in the middle of the street?!) It's easily up there with Tokyo Drifter and Branded to Kill.
  24. I have a 15GB model, one of the smaller sizes, and still don't get around to hearing half of the stuff that's on there.
