  1. I know what you're saying.
  2. Amazing match. Both were completely spent by the end.
  3. I hate this kind of shit. You guys might be watching it because it's "funny" or "stupid" but that's the same reason people watch The Simple Life, The Surreal Life, The Apprentice, The Bachelor, The Bachelorette....ad nauseum. As a result, those shows get great ratings and nine more of them pop up every day. Thanks. BTW: I don't imagine many of you listen to shitty music because it's "funny". Well...it's the same thing. Every bullshit record that gets popular means a good record that doesn't conform to what the current music market dictates will not get made. How funny is Amercian Idol now?
  4. This is an awfuly strage thread. Every time I visit it it seems like a post or two are missing or an image is down. Then, when I come back the next day, they're back up and something else is gone.
  5. Give 'em some time. They just started.
  6. Oops.
  7. Not only Cherry but Bob Cranshaw and Billy Higgins as well. The same group minus Cranshaw and plus Henry Grimes(!) is featured on a Jazz Anthology LP called Live in Europe. Whether or not it has ever been issued on CD is beyond me. I have no idea. clifford thornton--our clifford thornton--was kind enough to send me a copy last year and it's some really great stuff. Easily recommended if you like Our Man in Jazz.
  8. I think that's a great idea. I love the McGhee/Farlow/Drew discs.
  9. What about that Elmo Hope stuff, man? Doesn't it seem like that oughta be in print?
  10. Despite (or perhaps because of) my love for The Nice......I am not a big fan of absolutely any ELP. Yuck.
  11. Hope I'm not bringing up something that's already been covered but..... What about non-audiophile stuff like old solid state recievers that very clearly fucntion as power amps as well? I'm running a Pioneer SX-780. It's nothing special but it is in beautiful shape and I really like it. Is this the kind of thing that would benefit from being left on?
  12. I like this record as well.
  13. I've not compared the different leagues (mostly because I don't care that much) but I have to assume that fantasy baseball is among the more involved of the fantasy sports. It all depends upon how serious you want to get, of course, but baseball differs from the others because you've got, among other things: line-ups to choose in accordance with the L/R arm of your opposing pitcher(s); the ballpark(s) your players are hitting in; and generally just way more choices to make re personnel. The playing surfaces in football and basketball are always the same so you never have to worry about that. True, a December game in Green Bay is much different than one in Jacksonville but it usually doesn't involve a near complete player switcheroo. As far as basketball is concerned, you gotta work around Shaq Fu (and maybe Yao) but other than that you pretty much play the best five guys you got every day. It's fun. I did it last year but it can be a lot to keep up with and I wasn't particularly good at (or concerned with) doing that.
  14. That's fine and all, but I'd be willing to bet that a quarter (or even a third) of Quantegy's clientele were scared far enough away from analog by the debacle to finally say "you know what, the hell with it" and simply went digital right then and there. Either way, this is good news. And don't rule out US producers as well. I talked to some people in the Bay Area yesterday who are crunching numbers as we speak to get an operation going out here. So.....
  15. This is what really gets at me. I find this very annoying, especially since AMG assigns your password. So it's a random series of numbers and letters rather than something you'd bother to memorize. As a result, I have to dig into my old email archive to retrieve my password every time I want to log into AMG. You can change your password. I've made mine a stupid nonsecure kind that I can remember since Safari & their site don't work together in a way that I am automatically logged in. Okay. I'm running Safari at home so that's obviously gotta be the problem.
  16. I've never even heard of this record (or Tatro for that matter). What else can you tell me about it?

  18. Yesterday as I was walking home from the hardware store I started humming the opening bassline from Mal Waldron "Warm Canto". Continuing from there, I whistled my way through most of Dolphy's clairnet solo and nailed Mal's piano solo almost note for note. It was a nice walk. B-)
  19. Gilbert Sorrentino - Imaginative Qualities of Actual Things
  20. Anyone can be a member of ARSC. link As for your second question: I am a librarian at Stanford whose specific purpose is to handle and preserve audio holdings including, among other things, the Radio Free Eurpoe collection. God knows I don't know everything but I do know where to look and who to ask for information regarding structural degradation issues, applying solvents for cleaning, and digitization. Again, the ARSC listserv is a valuable resource for this kind of information.
  21. Your post inspired me to break this record ( B-) ) out for the first time in a long while. It's a good'n alright....
  22. Today at Amoeba.... 1. Sun Ra - Heliocentric Worlds, Vol. 1 (ESP, b/w cover art)* 2. Fairport Convention - Liege & Lief** 3. [v/a] - In the Spirit, Vol. 2 (Origin)*** 4. Gary Foster - Subconciously (Revelation) 5. JCOA - [s/t] (JCOA)**** * This is better than I remebered. It's been several years since I last heard it. ** "Come All Ye" might be the best song ever. (This week anyway.) *** This thing is fantastic! Bukka White, Charlie Patton, etc. And not just the same old tunes. **** This is the silver 2xLP with Coryell going bananas on the feedback.
  23. Watazumido-Shuso - The Mysterious Sounds of the Japanese Bamboo Flute (Everest)
  24. That's ridiculous.
