"PARALYZING" Snow Storm for the Mid-Atlantic States
Chalupa replied to Chalupa's topic in Miscellaneous - Non-Political
The latest official snow total at Philadelphia International Airport came in at 26.7 inches, beating the Dec. 19-20 storm by better than 3 inches and making it the second-biggest Philadelphia snow in the period of record. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/weather/Snow_--_2_feet__27_inches.html -
Nice. You going to the Daniel Higgs show? Recommended.

"PARALYZING" Snow Storm for the Mid-Atlantic States

I just finished shoveling round #3. We have 2 feet easy. Everything is closed/canceled for tonight and tomorrow. I'm just hoping that The Residents show on Monday is still on. And they're talking about more snow on Tuesday. -
Yeah, I got that email from Amazon too and I have some questions about this release. First, has this material been available before in trading circles and; second, is this a legit release?

"PARALYZING" Snow Storm for the Mid-Atlantic States

Just finished my 2nd round of shoveling. I'd say about 15 inches so far and it's still coming down. I think this storm might end up being worse than the one in December. The wind is making some insanely large snow drifts. Man, I'm so tired. I'm ready for a beer. -
That's Beautiful World in West Philly(see my post above) That's the other Beautiful World location in South Philly.

Atomic plays March 01 Bobby Zankel and the Wonderful Warriors of Sound play the first Thursday of every month at Tritone. Recommended. Art Ensemble of Chicago plays March 06 Ortlieb's is still open. Worth a trip. Chris' Jazz Cafe is usually a good bet. Board member Alan Lankin maintains a Philly gig page - check it out here. Record stores - for used vinyl go to Beautiful World Syndicate. They have two locations. For new vinyl AKA Music and Tequila Sunrise Records are very good. Both places have a little used vinyl too but not in the massive quantities at BWS. Philadelphia Record Exchange has a very large selection of used vinyl too but they put most of the good stuff up on eBay. Still worth a trip.

Something I just noticed.... I bought 5 CDs at the ESP site. I tried to get the same 5 at the Jazz Loft site and 1 of the the titles wasn't listed as being on sale. Hmm... Anyway I found another CD on sale at Jazz Loft and the total w/ shipping for 5 CDs is a dollar less than at ESP. HOWEVER, the discs at ESP come with a digital download - not sure if you get the download when purchasing via Jazz Loft. Either way it's only a $1 total(or $.20 per disc) difference.

I just loaded up. $6 per CD is crazy. Thanks for the tip

Great. Why can't it snow on a Monday? "Plan on 'no travel' in the Virginias, central and southern Pennsylvania, the Delmarva and much of New Jersey Friday night into Saturday." "Snowfall rates may reach 3 inches per hour." "Storm crews may not be able to keep up." "Accumulations have the potential to reach 2 feet in some areas." Snow

Bump. Got this bit of good news today in an email.... Dear NAME, As you know already: after our worldwide distributor filed for insolvency, we were fighting not to become insolvent ourselves. And we had to set up a whole new distribution network (needless to say we were also struggling to get our CDs back and to deal with these modern time pirates called bankers). But, the way it looks like, we succeeded. So we are looking forward to a prosperous 2010, and we hope you do, too. How to start such a prosperous year well? By announcing three new CDs to see the light of day at the end of March! These releases are: DON ELLIS “Haiku” The famous soundtrack composer Don Ellis (do you remember French Connection?) created a wonderful recording in 1973 with jazz band (incl. Larry Carlton and Ray Brown) and string orchestra, built around ten Japanese Haiku poems. ZBIGNIEW SEIFERT “Man Of The Light” This Polish virtuoso can be called the violin’s answer to McCoy Tyner. Those who are familiar with our Charlie Mariano release “Helen 12 Trees” know what we mean. This recording features Cecil McBee and Billy Hart as rhythm section, as well as two European high class pianists: Joachim Kühn and Jasper van’t Hof. …Both Ellis and Seifert died much too young. And nearly at the same time: just in between two months, ending of the Seventies. Finally there is “Jazz Meets India”. This recording dates from 1967 and can be called one of the first world music albums ever. It’s a clash between the Western IRÈNE SCHWEIZER TRIO (with pre-Guru Guru Mani Neumeier and Uli Trepte) and the Indian DEWAN MOTIHAR TRIO, augmented by “The Jazz Horns”, being BARNEY WILEN and MANFRED SCHOOF. Please expect from us the same adequate care for these CDs as you experienced in previous promising music releases, concerning old and new liner notes, subtle re-mastering, and the unique packaging. Best wishes Consul Bodo Jacoby
