  2. That's amazing. Thanks for sharing.
  3. He's been dead for close to 60 years and they're just giving him the prize?
  4. The Ortiz Watch... After struggling mightily the first two months of last season, Ortiz is off to another slow start in 2010. He is hitting .136 (3 for 22) with just 2 RBIs and 11 strikeouts. He has missed on 44 percent of his swings this season, more than double the league average of 20 percent. http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/mlb/news/story?id=5082185
  5. Hell they could suspend him for 8 games and that trade would still be a steal. 3rd Circuit resurrects Jets fan’s suit against Patriots http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20100413_3rd_Circuit_resurrects_Jets_fans_suit_against_Patriots.html
  6. I'll be at Friday's tour kickoff.
  7. Heard some disturbing news today. Apparently Alex Chilton had been suffering form chest pains for a few days before his heart attack but didn't go to the doctor because he didn't have health insurance. http://www.spinner.com/2010/04/13/alex-chilton-heart-attack-death-health-insurance/
  8. I thought it was a third or fourth. You're right it's a 3rd or 4th. How about the Jets getting Santonio Holmes for a measly 5th round pick?? Quick! someone call the FBI and have the Jets' GM arrested for robbery.

  10. I was lucky to see him perform last year w/ Kieran Hebden. I really like his "Odyssey of a Oblong Square" LP.
  11. This. Nope. This: SWEEP! Astros are 0-7. Can you take off your black & orange blinders and believe me that they suck now? The Astros are better than their record indicates. They also had the misfortune of going up against the Giants & Phillies for the first 7 games.
  12. Braves getting spanked by the Padres. Right now in the bottom of the 7th it's 17-2.
  13. When do we play you guys? It looks like it could be a real battle this year for the NL East.

  16. Cliff Lee out until May... http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=507199
  17. I love the first couple of weeks of the season when all of the stats are skewed. Like Hayward being on pace for 324 strike outs, I mean the kid is probably a little over matched right now but he's not going strike out 300+ times. Anyway with that in mind check out the Phillies batting averages of the starting 8 through 4 games.... Rollins .476, Polanco .579, Utley .438, Howard .400, Werth .333, Ibanez .267, Victorino, .111(WTF?), Ruiz .364. Then again when you're facing the Nats and the Astros pitching staffs to start the season it's like getting an extra week of batting practice before the real games begin.
  18. Hey Braves fans.... Hayward went 0 for 5 today with 4 strike outs. At this rate he's on pace to strike out 324 times this season. Maybe they should have seasoned him a bit longer in the minors? Just sayin'...
  19. Do what the NFL does and spit the TV revenue. Teams that have the benefit of drawing 3-4 million a year and sell luxury box seating get to keep and do whatever they want with the profits. Red Sox and Yankees should have an advantage due to location and loyalty but they shouldn't have a 500 dollar million advantage just for TV revenue. They wouldn't make that kind of money playing split squad games so give the other team some of that like the NFL. In this case have a minimum cap but not a maximum cap to see if helps change things. Agree. The money the Yankees take in from YES dwarfs what other small market teams can get from their TV markets. From the article.... Randy Levine: "We play by all the rules and there doesn't seem to be any complaints when teams such as the Brewers receive hundreds of millions of dollars that they get from us in revenue sharing the last few years. In the initial seven years of the luxury tax, the Yankees have paid teams nearly $175 million in revenue sharing, according to the BizofBaseball.com. Okay Randy let's do the math - $175 Million divided by 29 teams = $6 Million per team Divided by 7 years = less than $1 million per team per year. That's significantly less than the "hundreds of millions of dollars" that he claims the Brewers received from the Yanks the last few years.
  20. "He loved music. In World War II he had amazed soldiers by carrying boxes of records and a portable phonograph to the front lines. When he died, in 1978, he had only eighteen dollars in the bank but he owned more than twenty-five thousand vinyl records, mostly classical and jazz." From page 13 of The Jazz Loft Project: Photographs and Tapes of W. Eugene Smith from 821 Sixth Avenue, 1957-1965 He was one of us!!!

  23. Stupid, stupid move by the Iggles. They traded not only the best Eagles QB of all time but they traded their best player of all time. And to a division rival?? WTF were they thinking?? Now that McNabb is playing for a coach who realizes you need to have a balanced attack on offense(no more 70% passing plays per game) and knows how to manage the clock it will be really interesting to see how far McNabb goes. Not sold on Kolb. He doesn't have a NFL physique or arm. I would be ecstatic if I were a Redskins fan. Hell I used to be one back in the 70's through the early 80's. It might be time to rejoin the tribe. Now you have a legit QB for the first time in YEARS. Contrary to popular opinion DMac still has plenty left in the tank. Consider: He threw for 4800 yards in 2008 and 3500 yards last season while missing 3 games. His interception rate is among the lowest in the NFL - lower than Brady's or Payton's. And all it cost was a 2nd round pick this year and 3rd or 4th rounder next. Shanahan must be doubled over in laughter right now. Can you imagine what will happen if McNabb leads the Skins to a SB in the next 2 to 3 years?? Philadelphia will implode. The city will cease to exist. You won't be able to find it even w/ a GPS.
  24. So last night @ the Giuseppi Logan show Mark from Ars Nova Workshop announced that they had received their funding grant for a series featuring Roscoe Mitchell and Henry Threadgill for the Fall/Winter 2010/11 season. At least two shows featuring Roscoe and two shows for Henry. Possibly more.
