  1. Someone just sent me this quote..... "The only time any drummer should sing is when he's Levon Helm."
  2. Damn. Safe travels Levon.
  3. Serious slug fest going on in San Francisco right now. Phillies and Giants tied 0-0 going into the bottom of the 9th. Edit: top of the 10th, 0-0.
  4. 10 - 3 ??? Is there a mercy rule in the NHL??? Hard to believe but the Flyers lead this game twice in the first period.
  5. But not as much as an all Texas World Series.
  6. Did you see the hit on Hossa? NHL needs to crack down harder on that shit. This year's playoffs are becoming a thug fest. Edit: Here's a link to video.
  7. This was just posted on his Facebook page... Dear Friends, Levon is in the final stages of his battle with cancer. Please send your prayers and love to him as he makes his way through this part of his journey. ... Thank you fans and music lovers who have made his life so filled with joy and celebration... he has loved nothing more than to play, to fill the room up with music, lay down the back beat, and make the people dance! He did it every time he took the stage... We appreciate all the love and support and concern. From his daughter Amy, and wife Sandy --------------------------------------------------------------- Always liked his singing and drumming. Take it easy Levon. Edit: changed thread title.
  8. Ahh here's the post that I was thinking of.... http://www.organissi...post__p__116047 So I guess the question now is did the daughters sell FD to someone else or did they relent and lease the rights?
  9. Well, that's the info I got a while ago. Maybe I was misinformed - so who does own FD? I thought someone, maybe JLH, posted last year that Thiele's daughters owned the rights to the catalog. Furthermore they didn't want to license the FD recordings out piecemeal because they felt they would get more money for the recordings if they sold them all together.
  10. Well the bad news for the Giants - Lincecum lost again. The good news is he was able to lower his ERA to 10.54!! (Actually, besides the 1st inning where he gave up 4 runs he looked pretty good last night. Also, Angel Pagan did him no favors) Phillies back to .500 ball. Sigh... this is gonna be a long season.
  11. Really surprised that a Flyers fan can say this with a straight face! No doubt you'll excuse me for not shedding any tears for your innocents. LOL!
  12. Interview with Muhal Richard Abrams
  13. Anyone watch the Flyers/Pens game yesterday?? Crosby is serious dick. http://espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs/2012/story/_/id/7821347/2012-stanley-cup-playoffs-craig-adams-pittsburgh-penguins-banned-1-game-dan-bylsma-fined-10k
  14. Jeez, not even 10 games into the season and Bobby V. is in a controversy of his own making.
  15. "My name is Mike Wallace, the cigarette is Philip Morris."
  16. Free speech is funny thing, ain't it? I strongly disagree with what Ozzie said but I don't think it was right for him to be suspended for it. Phillies are in trouble.
  17. http://www.pacificfreepress.com/news/1-/11387-does-daiichi-4-spell-the-end-qcesium-137-is-85-times-greater-than-at-chernobylq.html Haven't seen anything in the mainstream press yet but....
  18. Trying some ol' reverse psychology eh? On myself, yeah. Last season was...extremely intense for me personally. Don't know if this one needs to be quite as much so. Besides, getting to the Series three years in a row? Not likely by any rational/reasonable standard. Now, next season... Hey back in the 80's/90's the Buffalo Bills made to the Super Bowl 4 years in a row. Of course they lost all 4....
  19. Question - can both WC teams come from the same division?? or is it one per division? I'm assuming that two can come fron the same division so..... AL East - Red Sox Central - Tigers West - Rangers WC - Angels & Yanks NL East - Nationals Centrals - Cards West - Giants WC - Braves, Marlins The Phillies are in trouble. But their pitching should keep them in it. However, I don't think it will be enough to offset the loss of Howard and Utley . Really dislike that they have expanded the playoff format yet again.
  20. The only thing worse than having McCourt run your franchise into the ground is having someone overpay for the team in a deal that will will tank the Dodgers for the foreseeable future. "It's the craziest deal ever; it makes no sense. That's why you saw so many groups drop out," said Mark Rosentraub, a University of Michigan sports management professor. "I don't get it. The numbers just don't work. It doesn't make business sense. Nobody came up with this number. Under the most favorable circumstance you broke $1.1 billion with $1.4 billion getting crazy. Now you're up in the $2 billion range, which is over $800 million more than what pencils out for a profitable investment for a baseball team. If making money doesn't count, this is a great move. But now we're into buying art and I can't value art. I can just run the model numbers and this doesn't make sense." http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/7747848/economist-2b-los-angeles-dodgers-makes-no-sense
  21. Just got the news in an email from the Philadelphia Orchestra. Bummer. Not the first time time he has canceled for a show that I had tix for but I'm a little concerned due to the lack of info. I hope he's alright and just needs some rest. http://www.philly.com/philly/blogs/artswatch/144959565.html Maybe some less than favorable reviews of his recent London concerts had something to do with his cancellation?? http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2012/mar/07/maurizio-pollini-review?newsfeed=true http://www.theartsdesk.com/classical-music/maurizio-pollini-royal-festival-hall-1
  22. Can't help but think that future wars will be fought with these little guys someday..... (action starts about 30 seconds in.)
