Point of clarification - The sample in question wasn't from the first test - it was from Braun's 2nd test. The first test had a result of 20-1 testosterone level which triggered a need for the 2nd test. According to ESPN the 2nd sample was tested and it too came back positive for testosterone. Although MLB officials would not comment on the record, sources say they are still convinced that the sample tested came from Braun, and that the positive test result was correct. They emphasize that the FedEx package that arrived in the Montreal laboratory was sealed three times with tamper-proof seals: one on the box, one on a plastic bag inside the box and again on the vial that contained the urine. The lab chief, an MLB source told ESPN.com, testified that the urine was not tainted, that it was appropriate for testing and that it tested positive for testosterone. http://espn.go.com/e...lb-drug-testing What's also interesting is that in his appeal to the arbitrator Braun's lawyers didn't argue that the sample had been contaminated or that the test result was a false positive. They just argued that protocol hadn't been strictly followed.

Not sure what you're not getting. I find this whole Horo re-issue thing has turned into a spectacle. Don't you think that's it's very curious that there is a website, from all appearances, run by Aldo Sinesio that has Horo LP's for sale?? Also, I'm wondering if the Facebook page which I linked is genuine or fake. I mean, if both of those links are legit that would be good news, no? And if they are fake, why is someone spending all of this time/energy/money in keeping this ruse running??

ESPN is reporting that Braun's PED suspension has been overturned on a technicality. If, and I stress IF, that is true then he's a cheater and a weasel.

Check out his FB page. There is a post from today(you have to be signed into FB to read it) that says,"As soon as possible, the Horus Records Massimo Urbani, dedicate great jazz musician, the space it deserves. ..!!!"

There's actually a simple solution for the Nats to getting rid of the Phillies fans. Start winning. Seriously. The Mets fans used to do the same thing to us and it stopped when the Phillies started beating the Mets. The solution the Nats GM is trying won't work in today's age of legalized scalping(hello Stub Hub? Ebay?) He's just creating a secondary market for the tix. And I think the Nats are going to be really good this season. Love the additions of Edwin Jackson and Gio Gonzales. If Bryce Harper lives up to the hype and Strasburg and Werth can regain their old forms they could take the NL East and who knows how much more. They are close, very close. So for their GM to do this "take back" stuff, it's just nonsense. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/dc-sports-bog/post/scenes-from-a-philly-invasion-of-nats-park/2011/05/30/AGu6GzEH_blog.html

Damn dude why do you have such a hard on for the Phillies?? Trading for Wigginton(and only picking up $2M of his contract) and signing Nix(two year contract worth a grand total of $2.5M over two seasons) are not what I, or anyone else with a lick of sense, would call throwing money around. You could make a case that they might have overpaid for Papelbon but, the Rollins re-signing was a necessity and they got a good deal considering that he wanted 5 years and they got him for 3.

I was fortunate to see him perform live about 6 or 7 years ago. He was still bringing it. RIP.

Philly baseball scribe(and member of the Hall of Fame) Bill Conlin has been accused of molestation by 4 people. Unbelievable, especially in light of his recent columns blasting Jerry Sandusky. http://www.philly.com/philly/news/breaking/20111220_Four_say_Philly_Daily_News_writer_Bill_Conlin_sexually_abused_them_as_children.html?c=r

Wow. What an asshole. So should the baseball writers take away Braun's 2011 MVP award?? My gut says yes, but I wonder if doing so that it would create more of a problem then already exists. I'm also hearing that the testing process mandates splitting a sample in two and then take testing each half separately to protect against a false positive, and that Braun's other half came back negative. If this is true, ESPN reported prematurely and extremely irresponsibly. Hmm. Well I hope ESPN didn't jump the gun on this. It would be really, really bad for baseball if it turns outs they were wrong.

Agree with Dave. The Pujols deal makes the Phillies extension of Ryan Howard look almost reasonable. No, on second thought the Howard extension is still stupid. However I'd like to thank the Angels' management for making the Phillies' fans feel better in that Howard's deal is only for 5 years.

Five years, $106 million. Ladies and gentlemen, meet the Miami Marlins, the new New York Yankees. ESPN is reporting six years, with $102M guaranteed. The Marlins better hope that the new stadium = fans, or they will be bankrupt before the end of Reyes contract.

Salaries for college football coaches back on rise... Jimbo Fisher got a raise of roughly $950,000 after last season, his first as head football coach at Florida State, boosting his pay to about $2.8 million. So, at a time of tightening budgets, how does a public employee get a 50% raise of nearly $1 million after one year on the job? "You're always looking at whether or not you have the potential to lose a good coach and end up having to pay more in order to get the next one," Florida State President Eric Barron says. That sort of inflationary reasoning is a factor in the rapid rise in salaries of major-college head football coaches. An analysis by USA TODAY found that in 2006 the average pay for major-college coaches was $950,000 — coincidentally, about the amount of Fisher's raise after last season. The average compensation in 2011 is $1.47 million, a jump of nearly 55% in six seasons. In the six conferences with automatic Bowl Championship Series bids, the average salary rose from $1.4 million in 2006 to $2.125 million in 2011. That's a jump of about 52% — meaning salaries at schools in the other five major conferences are going up at roughly the same rate as they are at higher-profile schools. "The hell with gold," higher education lawyer Sheldon Steinbach says. "I want to buy futures in coaches' contracts." Critics find it troubling that this rapid rise for coaches comes at a time when instructional spending at many schools has slowed or declined amid economic struggles and shrinking state education budgets. "Athletics has gotten so disproportionate to the rest of the economy, and to the academic community, that it is unbelievable," says Julian Spallholz, a professor in the department of food and nutrition at Texas Tech, where coach Tommy Tuberville got a $550,000 raise. "This kind of disproportion in the country is why people are occupying Wall Street." This season, at least 64 coaches are making more than $1 million. Of those, 32 are being paid more than $2 million, nine are making more than $3 million, and three are making more than $4 million. Texas' Mack Brown tops the list; he's being paid more than $5 million. The analysis is based on contracts or other documents showing compensation from 110 of the 120 schools in the NCAA's top-tier Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS). more....
