  1. How about dem Phillies? First team in the majors this year to record 50, 60, 70, and now 80 wins. If they play.500 ball the rest of the way they will get 100 wins. They also had their 200th straight sell out last night.
  2. from Facebook this evening..... Bert Jansch (Official) Edinburgh show Sat 20th cancelled: Bert's Edinburgh show on Saturday 20th August has sadly had to be cancelled as Bert is unwell. Both he and his doctors were hoping he would be well enough in time to do the show, but unfortunately that has not been the case and he will be in hospital at least until next week. Bert is desperately disappointed to miss the show, and apologises profusely to all the fans and those who were hoping to see him. Hopefully see you next time!
  3. Well, if they keep playing, very true! two very nice stories on a very nice guy.... http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/page/rumblings110816/jim-thome-truly-real-caring-person http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/6847957/road-600-home-runs-memorable-one-jim-thome Love Thome. My only regret about the 2008 championship was that he wasn't there to be a part of it. I think Thome gets in HOF first ballot. He's only the 8th(okay 5th non steroid) player to get 600 home runs. That's out of 17,000+ men to play in the MLB. I haven't been able to find the video but the night that he hit #600 Thome went on and on about Charlie Manuel and how he owed his whole career to him. It was amazing.
  4. Hey! We are rivals! Aren't we supposed to hate each other's teams??? It's funny, but never hated the Phils, like watching them play(Just not against the braves) used to hate the Mets(Mainly their online fans) but heck, I like the way they play these days... So...who should be the NL ROY??? Freeman? 16 HR's 60 RBI's, .295 BA, .360 OBP, all the while playing as good a 1st base defense as you will see, all at the age of 21....or Craig Kimbrel, with 36 saves, 1.81 ERA, and 94 K's in 59 innings??? Always liked the Braves. I miss not getting their games on TBS anymore. Though I do like to razz their fans about not showing up for playoff games, etc. RE: ROY. I think it's gotta be Freeman. Kimbrel has been spectacular but Freeman is an everyday player. And that game winning hit he had over the Giants this week sealed the deal me thinks.
  5. Eli - In the same class as Brady? HAHA.
  6. Dang a disappointing loss for Halladay and the Phillies tonight and another exciting win by the Braves over the Giants. Maybe they NL East isn't over after all.
  7. Thanks for posting this.
  8. Rangers to honor Stone's memory "Our hope is that this statue will not be a symbol of our family tragedy but rather a reminder of the importance of a family's love -- love of each other, love of spending time together, and love of the game." The Rangers have announced plans to extend the height of all the rails at the ballpark to 42 inches, an increase of as much as 12 inches in certain areas. The club is currently working with engineers on the design phase and hope to begin to implement the new rails either before this season is over or during the offseason. :tup Wish the Phillies(and the rest of the MLB) would do something similar before another fall occurs
  9. The following was just posted to the CT Research group... "We are informed that both the Cecil Taylor Museum and the benefit concert for the Museum have been cancelled." ????
  10. Check out this triple play that the Brewers turned tonight.
  11. WOW!! WHAT A COMEBACK BY THE BRAVES!! Freddie Freeman! Congrats to Jim Thome on joining the 600 homer club.
  12. Larry Fitzgerald a FA after this season??? Oh please, oh please, oh please!
  13. Oh yeah. And a close second for me is Coffee Heath Bar Crunch.
  14. Damn. Watched the first three innings of the Braves/Giants game and the Braves were leading 2-zip and Hudson was dealing. Now I come back and it's 4-2 Giants. WTF? Javier Lopez of the Giants is just nasty on lefties.
  15. Zambrano leaves Cubs
  16. You have a legit gripe there. I had to check the box score to find out. And how about Zambrano giving up 5 home runs(2 by Uggla!) in 4.1 innings?! Holy cow.
  17. Found the answer... Uggla has batted .355 (44-for-124) with 12 homers and a .685 slugging percentage during this streak, and he has seen his batting average rise from .173 to .224, which stands as his highest mark of the season. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20110810&content_id=23035488&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb
  18. What's his batting avg. since the streak began?

  20. Exactly Alan. If the Giants didn't think Rollins should be running w/ a 6 run lead in the top of the 6th then why were they holding him on??
  21. Hope this is the reason why he hasn't been around.
  22. Trash talking? Cholly saying, rightly, that Lincecum and Cain are "very, very, very, good" not great pitchers is trash talk? Please. Ramirez and Whiteside showed what a bunch of punks they are last night. They embarrassed the Giants organization. Speak to your guys' manager. He was running off at the mouth about Lincecum and Cain after the Giants beat the Phils last week. That's fine. Get it while it's cheap. Punks? And what was Placido Polanco doing charging Whiteside? The Phillies are all mouth and I guess that's all they got when it comes to trying to win championships. If they can't do it on the playing field they try to do it through insult and trash talking. I have just become a Phillies hater. Oh please. You really are comical. The Phillies have the best record in baseball and are a lock to make the playoffs of the 5th year in a row. The Giants got lucky last year when they won their first championship in over 50 years and now their fans act like they are a dynasty. Wake up. Your team has lost 8 of its last 9 games and is a half game in front of the Diamondbacks. Find me examples where any of the Phillies players have been accused of trash talking or insults. The only person that has said anything was the manager. Go back and read what Manuel said about Cain and Lincecum. He said they were not great pitchers, just good. He later clarified his comments to say that they were,"very, very, very good" pitchers. You call that trash talking?? Well guess what? Bochy agreed with him!! Interestingly, Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Manuel's original point had some validity. "I guess what Charlie's point is, is longevity," Bochy said. "He's right. When you call somebody great, they've done it over quite a few years." Read more: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2011/08/04/SPVU1KJHJA.DTL#ixzz1ULza52o9 Lucky? You have just got to be kidding me. The Giants won the NLDS, NLCS and the WS all on the road. The pitching was sterling. The hitters stepped up and when one wasn't the other was. Flawless defense....and you call this luck? It was textbook championship baseball. Go back and watch the highlights...I'm thinking you need a refresher course on how to win championships. And who ever said anything about any dynasty...? The Phillies couldn't get it done. Period. Now, they have resorted to mind games and dissing pitchers and players...even The City itself. The fans from that town are notorious for bad-mouthing and trash talking. Inferioity complex was the comeback, I believe. What's next? Everybody's Gay? Pssh. Play the game, then we see what you got. Fair? Get it while it's cheap. Talk about an inferiority complex. Your team and fans get bent out of shape because the manager on another team dared to, correctly imo, say that their two best starters are good not great pitchers. Then you think that stealing w/ a 6 run lead somehow justifies your pitcher for throwing at the other team's batter? And now you play the gay card. Nice. Again I ask you - where have the Phillies said anything bad about the Giants or now that you've cast a wider net - San Francisco?? Like you say - play the game. So far this series your team hasn't. If anybody needs a refresher course on how to win championships it would appear to be the Giants. Their season is on the verge of spiraling out of control. Today's game is almost a must win for them.
