  1. Dan, we don't need Betts... we've got "a fully-stocked outfield." (Btw seems like a great deal for the Sox re Boegarts extension.)
  2. Rereading for the first time since I was a teenager:
  3. We re-aired Jazz Women Of The 1990s last week, and it remains archived for online listening.
  4. Yankees and the Red Sox already battling like tigers... for the American League East cellar. Yankees drop opening home series of the season to a team projected to be the worst of 2019... not great, Boone! Not to mention his walkoff hit!
  5. Fitzgerald beautifully evokes the magical charge and the vicious, temporal economy of adolescent relations in these stories:
  6. Bummer that there were no afternoon games today, after the plethora of match-ups to follow yesterday.
  7. I've now taken the plunge and ordered a copy of the Extended Edition of V. 1. Btw, a poster at Hoffman said last autumn that he'd just attended a small private party at which Lewisohn spoke, and that Lewisohn projected V. 2 to be on track for publication in "five years"--which would mean 2023--and for V. 3 to appear around 2030.
  8. Bryce Harper's Phillie Phanatic cleats:

  10. The Dodgers hit *eight* home runs off Arizona today? At that rate they’ll pass the Yankees’ 2018 MLB record of 267 sometime in early May: https://www.mlb.com/video/c-dodgers-belt-8-homers-vs-d-backs
  11. Great wins for both New York teams today. Gotta say the Mets' was more impressive, given that they were facing Max Scherzer.
  12. Mo threw out the first pitch at Yankee Stadium just now.
  13. I forgot to ask Scott when I ordered over the phone yesterday--has anybody heard an estimated shipping date for this release?
  14. Up in honor of Thad's birthday today: The Thad Jones Songbook
  15. It’s Opening Day! To commence the new season, I’ve arranged for our national anthem to be sung by internationally renowned opera star Enrico Pallazzo!! ... play ball!!
  16. Yes, I noticed the apparent "Mosaic Singles" branding--a series that I thought was long defunct. Would be great if it was occasionally revived for releases like this.
  17. My bad--I forgot that Sony and Universal have NOT merged. (I can't keep track anymore either, Joe!) So that would mean that a hypothetical Webster Verve set is still possible.
  18. I know they've contemplated doing a Ben Webster Verve Mosaic box in the past--not sure if it would have happened anyway, but Sony's new policy has definitely scotched any possibility of such a set moving forward.
  19. Yes, apparently! I just called and ordered one from Scott, who confirmed with Michael that Mosaic's selling it on CD. Huzzah!
  20. Weird timing for me to see this post--Stepney's name popped up just the other night as I was once again perusing George Lewis' A Power Stronger Than Itself: The AACM and American Experimental Music. He's the one who introduced Muhal Richard Abrams to Joseph Schillinger's musical composition theories.
  21. Last week's Night Lights profiled pianist Marian McPartland, with an emphasis on her compositions, plus an interview she did with friend and WFIU jazz host Dick Bishop in the 1970s in which she reflected on her music and her life: One For Marian: Marian McPartland
