  1. Little Leaguers cheering in the new "Judge's Chambers" section at Yankee Stadium today after Aaron Judge hit his first MLB grand-slam: Kids cheering from Judge's Chambers
  2. Thanks for this review; I've been curious as to what others have thought of the reboot. (I still haven't seen any of the new episodes yet.)
  3. Excellent magazine! (Full disclosure: I'm friends with editor Sascha Feinstein.) Congratulations, Late!
  4. I was a Rush fan in my junior-high/high-school days as well! Saw them on the Moving Pictures tour. He loved him madly.
  5. Last week's Night Lights show up, with a special thanks to Jsngry, who allowed me to use a quote from an old Organissimo post of his concerning the topic at hand: Final Miles: Miles Davis On Warner Brothers The web post also includes links to the full-length studio outtake of "Can I Play With U?" (the Prince song and recording originally intended for Tutu), Miles' appearance at Prince's 1987 New Year's Eve concert at Paisley Park, and much more.
  6. I've recently picked up a couple of the Impulse twofer CDs and will spin those tonight in Mr. Shepp's honor.
  7. Up for Mr. Shaw's birthday: Shaw Sounds Final: Artie Shaw 1949-54
  8. Celtics get blown out twice at home, then win on the road without IT. Bizarro World. At least they won't get swept... if they somehow manage to pull off another win at home in Game 5, that would be one hell of a moral victory.
  9. Up for the arrival day of Mr. Ra: Second Magic City: Sun Ra In Chicago
  10. I was just listening to Stinson last week--a superlative piece that he recorded with Larry Coryell. I think in fact it might have been the last recording that Stinson ever did.
  11. Bob Porter was on Night Lights last week, talking about some of the artists and subjects that his book explores: Bob Porter's Portraits In Soul Jazz
  12. Last week's Night Lights show, featuring commentary from Soul Jazz author Bob Porter and music from Charles Earland, Gene Ammons, Lou Donaldson, Brother Jack McDuff, and others, is now up for online listening: Bob Porter's Portraits In Soul Jazz
  13. Hopefully this burst of orders will increase the likelihood of the Wilson set coming to pass.
  14. The imagined conversations are jarring and irritating, no matter what sources he's rooting them in--suddenly it feels as if we're on the ground of a novel, rather than a cultural-research account. I'm enjoying it for the most part, because it's such an interesting topic, an expansion on areas that Szwed and Corbett have delved into... But any kind of Joe McGinnis Kennedy-walking-on-the-beach moments drive me to distraction in histories or biographies of any sort.
  15. Love those Private Collection releases!
  16. Merge Quintet, Presence. I was just listening to that this past weekend--got it along with Thembi as part of that great CD twofer Impulse reissue series.
  17. I was fascinated by him as a kid and feel the interest reawakening now. Just came across this website while searching for photos of him from his post-baseball years: Shoeless Joe Jackson's Virtual Hall Of Fame
  18. Just got a like-new copy of this set for $95 from an online seller and jumped in at disc 11. So much vitality in the music that I've heard so far--but then I've gotten pretty deeply immersed in Miles' Warner Bros period in the past couple of weeks. I have a feeling this set is going to validate Jsngry and other's opinions that the real gold from this era is to be found in the live performances.
  19. Jsngry, did you know that Shoeless Joe Jackson's great-great-grand nephew is in the Rangers' farm system? Joseph Ray Jackson
  20. Getting ready to start this:
