  1. Allen, no, didn't turn that info up while I was preparing the show, though I would've been hard-pressed to get it into the program. I did mention his brief stint as a child singer with an RCA label.
  2. Thanks much, just pulled the trigger as well. Picked up FEARLESS LEADER new for $15 a couple weeks back as well--nice to revisit these recordings for the first time in a few years.
  3. Thanks much for the tip--I'll check it out, tranemonk.
  4. My first moment of doubt (plausibility issue) after watching "The Wheel," the finale to Season 1 last night. The carousel scene is great, lives up to what I'd heard about it...but what gives with Peggy's sudden pregnancy and delivery? Yes, I knew she'd been gaining weight for a number of episodes, and I wondered if that might be what was going on--but just out of the blue, suddenly she's in the hospital and delivering? Wouldn't she have noticed or been worried about what was going on with her body for several months? Unless I missed something, there hadn't been any allusion to anxiety on her part about missing her period, etc. (That combined with the weight gain would surely induce some major concern.) I suppose you could speculate that the thought of possibly being pregnant freaked her out so much that she was in complete denial, but that would be a pretty lame means of explanation IMO. Is this issue ever addressed in Season 2? I'm guessing that she doesn't keep the baby...but is there ever any clarification about how she could have been pregnant for so long without knowing it? Or did I miss something in the episodes leading up to "The Wheel"?
  5. Many thanks for the recs on Cannonball's QUINTET PLUS and Mitchell's BLUE MOODS--ordered them both and they're living up to the advance billing.
  6. My take on it--thus far--is that these characters, Don certainly included, are, for all of their polish and style, often making mistakes...sometimes terrible ones, as in the case of how Don deals with his brother. They strike me as some of the most truly human characters I've ever seen on TV.
  7. This week's Night Lights takes a look at George Benson's straightahead jazz years, featuring the guitarist as a leader and as a sideman with Brother Jack McDuff and Jimmy Smith. It's archived for online listening: Before Broadway: George Benson in the 1960s ...and you can also hear it over the airwaves: Weekly broadcast times around the U.S. Next week: "John Zorn: Hardboiled Bop."
  8. That was nice, yet another walk-off win, and yes, good to see A.J. pitching well. Winning streak up to 7 now? Just hope NY doesn't peak too early...but right now they seem to be doing a good job of resting people while still playing them enough to keep them sharp...and, in the bargain, continuing to win.
  9. Oh man, sorry to hear that...I think I talked to her just this morning (called to ask when the Artie Shaw would be shipping). She's always been a real pleasure to talk to and very good at her job--can you imagine having to deal with our lot all of the time? Best of luck, Cindy.
  10. Nearly through Season 1--watched the next-to-last episode, "Kennedy vs. Nixon," tonight before doing my board shift at work. Wow... The whole Adam Whitman storyline is really haunting (not to mention all of the other stuff in Don's background). This one and "5G" were real heartbreakers...and the confrontation scenes between Pete and Don were really well-acted, even by this series' exceptional standards.
  11. Along with the great news about Threadgill/Air today, some more info from Mosaic's site about the Crosby box:
  12. 11 albums (including the unreleased one)=7 CDs, possibly? Or 8?
  13. Wow!!! That must've just posted this morning--I looked at "Upcoming Releases" last night around 11 p.m. and there was nothing new there.
  14. Yeah--didn't he say, "I don't want any more contact w/Roger" when he signed the contract? Bad, bad move on Roger's part, calling Betty.
  15. Great celebration! Did you see the fans leave for the exits the second the last out was made! Great fans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey, good excuse to post another video clip--this one pretty clearly shows lots of people staying around past the moment of the final out. (Wire accounts also described the crowd giving the team a standing ovation as Jeter led them off the field.) Besides, can you blame the folks who did leave for not wanting to get caught in a Bronx post-game crush?
  16. I watched it as well--good summary/analysis here. No sign of Joan last night--what's she going to do, now that her husband's told her she has to get her old job back? Wasn't sure about the young couple... were people really already marrying to avoid the Vietnam draft as early as the summer of '63? (I wouldn't know, not having even been on earth at that time--I've talked to a friend whose parents did that in mid-1965, but at that point, of course, the war was pretty much front and center in Americans' consciousness.)
  17. Dave, here's some stadium fan video of our mfa's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lebE3h6t-S0.
  18. It's up on next on my parade through Season 1--just finished watching episode #8, "The Hobo Code," late last night. Hoping to perhaps work in "The Shoot" tonight after the latest Season 3 episode airs. Caught the rerun of last week's show, "Guy Walks Into an Advertising Agency," this afternoon as part of the marathon... Man, beware of riding mowers in the office!
  19. Also Peggy and Betty. In fact, I'm pretty impressed with how the women characters are presented on this show. Been getting caught up on Season 3 today, thanks to AMC...but it's a bit odd, as I haven't seen any of Season 2 yet (and still have several more shows to go on Season 1).
  20. Sounds like a message from Al Qaeda's baseball unit!
  21. Well, Mo sure made things interesting and lively there in the 9th, but finally got Lowell out with a K. A bit of a baggy win, but I can't believe NY actually has a shot now at clinching the division tomorrow.
  22. Simpsons parody of opening credits
