I remember having a religious-like experience the first time that I saw Coltrane performing on video. It was a black-and-white TV show from around '61--he was playing "My Favorite Things"--and as I watched him play I felt like weeping. A kind of joyous weeping that I'd associate with being in the presence of a strong, benevolent spiritual force.

In addition to the much-discussed NEWEST SOUND AROUND, I'm also a big fan of PAINTED RHYTHMS (have only V. 1, am still on the hunt for V. 2) and the Silver tribute; I also have a soft spot for UNMARKED VAN. A lot of Blake I haven't heard, though, and I'm looking forward to encountering more of his work.

Man, that's a rather scary notion--that an in-print Mosaic could just suddenly vanish due to licensing/legal issues. I'm glad that I already have it. Hope this isn't a bad omen for current and in-the-works Verve/Universal Mosaic projects.
