In hindsight (after the Stanford loss), that appears to have been an excellent call. Indeed. And that Florida-LSU game was a monster. They were both smacking each other around pretty hard.
-
Belated but sincere best wishes.

I don't know. Seems like the Sox are built for the playoffs. Awesome performance by Beckett tonight. Unreal.

Pittman. ... but they're playing the Colts. They could probably run Jim Brown and it might not make a difference.

I'm pissed. I watched the Patriots scrimmage against the Bengals and missed all but the very end. ... what a mistake.

BTW, what's up with USC losing the No. 1 ranking after a win? Washington clearly is a much better team than Tulane (LSU's opponent Saturday). I figure, if you play a better opponent than the No. 2 team and you win, you gotta stay No. 1, no? Besides, LSU looked awful in the first half.

Next week vs. the Bears on Sunday night (5-0?). I can't see Favre getting beaten by Griese. Seems like all you gotta do to beat the Bears is stop the run. They go to the pass, it's over.

There's a lot of mediocre-to-bad teams in the league, me thinks. How bad is Carolina? What a stinkeroo of an effort against the Bucs. There's a big dropoff in this league after the Colts and Patriots, and probably the Cowboys. But, it's still pretty early. The Chargers are crazy for dumping a coaching staff that had them at 14-2 last year. Knuckleheads.

We have this guy at work who grew up a Mets fan. The kind of dude who keeps one eye on the TV when the Mets are on, who jumps out of his chair and yells, "YEAHHHH!" when they win (in the office). ... I remember one day early in the summer the Mets beat the Cubs (when the Cubs were tanking big time) and after the game he said, "We're going all the way this year." ... after beating the Cubs, who sucked at the time. I admire his faith. It's one of the things that makes baseball great. ... Poor bastard.

I'm starting to think the Pac 10 may be the strongest conference this year. The SEC at this point seems down. LSU might be overrated after watching that first half against Tulane. They looked confused, sloppy and unprepared. And Florida's youth on defense is beginning to be exposed. The rest of the SEC is kind of uneven week to week. The Big East is still not there. The ACC ... eh. With Miami, Florida State and Va. Tech clearly not at the top of their games, that conference seems down, too. I haven't seen enough of the Big 12 to know one way or the other, but Oklahoma's loss was a huge surprise. I figured them to be maybe the best team in the country before Saturday. Outside of Ohio State, the Big Ten seems average at best. That leaves the Pac 10. I see four pretty strong teams there. Washington gave USC a pretty good run Saturday. Cal looks solid. And Oregon and Washington both looked pretty good in losses. Thoughts?

And most of these lost to unranked teams!

I've felt this way for some time. A lot of just bad NFL teams. Getting a good matchup on Sundays, even with the Sunday Ticket dish deal, is a struggle sometimes. Much prefer college ball.

Over 1,000 yards total offense!! Wow. ... And Rutgers is among the upset victims. ...
-
That is stunning ... to Colorado, which looked pretty lame against a pretty tame Florida State team.

This poor guy was doomed from the beginning. No one could have survived that interview. I totally can't blame him for losing it when the guy said "sweet talk". I agree that no one could have survived that interview. If that wasn't bad enough that guy with the deep gravelly voice would've sealed his fate. Geez, I feel kinda sorry for that host, now a dj. I'm pretty sure the whole thing was a put-on. I wonder. The host seemed to be genuinely cracking up while trying to maintain. Either way, pretty damn funny.

That would be a dream matchup. Seems like they have the bats, but do the Cubs have the pitching?

Aggie ... you nailed this one in your original post: Friday night: USF 21, W. Va. 13. Rutgers seems like the team to beat in the Big East at this point, yes? I know there's some Florida haters out there, but you can't argue the success the state has had in college football. Several teams from Florida are almost always in the national championship mix. For a good part of the 90s, the road to the national championship ran directly through Florida. And Florida teams have had pretty good success winning it all. College football national championships: Florida -- 1996, 2006 Miami -- 1987, 1989, 1991, 2001 Florida State -- 1993, 1999 Some of the best football in the country is played in Florida. High school football in the state rivals Texas. Witness Miami Northwestern's 29-21 win earlier this month over Southlake Texas. Friday football is a big deal in many parts of the state. As far as USF, I wonder if they'll crack the top 10? I suspect pollsters will place them just outside -- say No. 11 or 12 -- and if they keep winning, they'll slide up pretty quickly as teams above them lose. Funny how the Big East seems to have gotten better now that Miami and Va. Tech have left. What's up with that? Most overrated conference, year in, year out -- Big Ten. And ... USC, while a great team, did not win back-to-back national championships. LSU won the national championship in one of the years that USC claims! (That would be an SEC team). Under the system we have, that was the result. Trojan fans, keep that one straight. You finished atop one of the major polls, you didn't win the national title. Don't ya just love football!

Congrats Cubs. Brewers have some soul-searching to do. Congrats Red Sox. Nice to see them break the Yankee streak. I'm ambivalent about the NL East, but what a collapse by the Mets. You can't go that cold at the end of a season. Looking forward to the playoffs!!

I love Melford's playing, and especially in combination with Ehrlich. The two of them flow together so effortlessly. Really gorgeous. Definitely one of the live performances I'd love to see.
