  1. Well I started with Catalonian Fire and like it a lot. I've read that Tete's playing has elements of McCoy Tyner and Art Tatum and I can see where those comparisons come from..
  2. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Lots to consider here..
  3. Prompted by a post by brownie in the ongoing "What are you listening to" thread, I checked into Spanish pianist Tete Montoliu a bit on Amazon and AMG. By those reviews it appears he has a lengthy catalog with many fine releases, in a style that it appears I would like. Sooo...where to start? What are some particularly noteworthy sessions by him? Do any stand out as especially consistent, interesting, well-recorded, etc?
  4. Thanks for taking the time to put this list together Bertrand. For those who see only one title they want, it is probably worth checking Amazon as well. If they have it, shipping would be about half of what Daedalus charges, i.e. $2.99.
  5. Thanks for the tip, just ordered. I will believe it when I see it though.. I called AAJ yesterday to inquire if they really had this in stock. They told me that no, they didn't, but it would be in "...in 7-10 days..". Hopefully they had one in stock, and Vic got it, which is why it was still listed on their site. But methinks this is just another example of laziness in keeping a website current, and listing items they don't actually have. In any case, I seriously doubt they will get any in "7-10 days". But we shall see..
  6. Thanks for the tip, just ordered. I will believe it when I see it though..
  7. I wonder when record companies are going to figure out that most of the market for vintage jazz doesn't want MP3s. I'd pay for FLAC or other lossless files, but I'll be damned if I will ever pay for MP3s. It is remarkable to me that what is basically an artifact of a time when smaller files actually mattered (i.e. prior to cheap, huge hard drives) somehow became the de facto standard for commercial downloads. It is ridiculous that vendors still have apparently not gotten the news that lossless files are the only way to go..
  8. Thank you for posting lupe. I enjoy music such as you describe very much. Anouar Brahem has a number of other releases on ECM that are good, although Thimar is a standout. I really like his latest- The Astounding Eyes of Rita. Abdullah Ibrahim also has an extensive catalog of music spanning several decades that should interest you. Check out the two albums on CD by Mombasa- African Rhythm & Blues, and Mombasa 2. This band has some other releases, not yet released on CD, that I would love to hear.
