It's time to sign-up for the February Keep swinging BFT # 44 as it might take a week up to ten days to get the CDs into your post box. There is also a possibility to download. If you sign-up, please inform me what you prefer - the CDs, the download links or both (why not ?). Please send me an email or PM what you prefer. I suggest to start discussing not before, let's say, Saturday 27th of January 2007, so everone can get his copy in time. What about that? In the meantime the discussion about Ray's great BFT #43 compilations can be finished I guess !! Keep swinging Durium

The VPRO/Boy Edgar award was named after the famous Dutch big band leader Boy Edgar. These LPs are indeed hard to find, even in Holland. I don't know if there are any reissues on CD. The CDs with Bert van den Brink and Jesse van Ruller are more easily to obtain, even for foreigners ( thanks to web shop ) Bert van den Brink Keep swinging Durium

I guess Nick got the copyright in first. I (more than) suspect that's what happened with a lot of early jazz tunes. W.C. Handy is another guy who was smart enough to be fast on the copyright draw. Same thing on the blues scene. Thanks for your replies Keep swinging Durium

Tiger Rag This 1917 tune is one of the most performed and recorded tunes in jazz I guess, played seriously, violated and mutilated by hundreds of (jazz) bands. If you like or hate it, beware of the Tiger. Tiger Rag Keep swinging Durium

MONTY ALEXANDER - FACETS I found this excellent album Facets in Middelburg (The Netherlands) at a 2ndhand records shop. It's the second Concord record with Monty Alexander .( featuring Ray Brown and Jeff Hamilton). It's a pity that my copy of the CD is a bit noisy. I hope to find a better copy on LP or CD. RON CARTER - HERBIE HANCOCK - TONY WILLIAMS Three giants united. In 1977, ten years after their cooperation with the Miles Davis Quintet the former rhythm section joined at the Automatt studios in San Francisco. They recorded a great album, on which Ron Carter could show that he is a great bass player:Third Plane Third Plane Keep swinging Durium

Dear Ray, I also had Bobby Hutcherson's vibe on 2 and track 6 sounds Ellingtonian, but of course isn't ( I guess). You made a great compilation, Ray, although I don't recognize not so much. I'm anxious to follow the discussion. I'll be back later !! Keep swinging Durium

Ray, thanks for the great compilation. I had a first spin and I wrote down some thoughts. although I don't recognize much. 2. My first thought was Brad Mehldau at the piano. 4. Is this Dexter? 9. I'd guess Philip Catherine at the guitar. So far so good. Hope to give it a second change next year !! Keep swinging Durium

Thanks Claude, for the track list. The information on the cover of the LP gives slightly different playing times, although the differences might be acceptable. 20:27 ( in stead of 20:15 ) - 13: 40 ( in stead of 13:35 ) and 5:34 ( in stead of 5:30 ) Keep swinging Durium

LEE MORGAN - OUT THERE Some times ago I found an LP titled LEE MORGAN - OUT THERE on the CARRERE / PHOENIX10 64.510 label. Some research brought me to the Both/And Club recordings from June 1970, but the 1981 LP is not mentioned. Can someone confirm that the three tracks on this LP were recorded some weeks before the well known Blue Note Lighthouse recordings of 10-11-12 of July 1970? BING CROSBY - WHITE CHRISTMAS When I woke up this morning the first thing I did was open the curtains, and, although I knew what I would see: no White Christmas this year.
