I was at a Stan Kenton concert of his orchestra years ago and impressed by the sound of this band. Since that day I'm searching for recordings that give me the same thrill as thirty years ago. Up to now I didn't find it, except one recording the band made with Laurindo Almeida. Keep swinging Durium

I still haven't got the discographical information about this small record. Why is Svend Asmussen not audible on the violin on this record? Maybe someone can tell me? You can listen to the tunes on this page. Keep swinging durium

SVEND ASMUSSEN I found a little 45 rpm Decca recording ( D 17608) with the Svend Asmussen Quintett Can someone tell me when this record was released? Sven Asmussen, known as a violin player, doesn't plays the violin on this record. Did Svend played the guitar? Keep swinging Durium

Sometimes it has to be easy... There were some 3 minutes space on the CD.... and i thought, a familiar track would be nice for all of us. I can immagine, that not all know this stuff.... therefore.... Durium earns the credits.... it is naturally the original in this case, no imitation. Hope, you all enjoy this tune. I think it's a great opener..... particular to the songs starting with track 12... Thanks Mr. Bassman for your commends. I gave myself a pat on the back for the correct suggestion I gave for the first track. I liked your compilation but I find it very difficult to find the correct information to it. Hope you'll like my January 2007 ( BFT # 44 ) compilation. Good luck identifing the other tracks !! Keep swinging Durium

Let's try to fire a shot across the bows. CD 2. 1. Slim and Slam. - but that seems to be too easily. I haven't checked it with my Slim Gaillard and / of Slam Stewart box, but it also could one of the numerous imitations by similar groups from the latev1930s early 1940s, like Johnny and Jones. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. 11.Is this a classical string orchestra that plays in a free way? It could be a band like Wilem Breuker's Kolektiedf, that makes this kind of suprisig acts with Mondriaan Strings. Nice ( now and then) 12.What an anti-climax ....... not my stuff. 13. Chaos? 14. Thanks Bassman for this first CD compilation. 1. A great opener. My first thought was of course Charles Mingus, but that is because I think he might have made these that kind of things. 2. It sounds like the Miller Sextet - a Dutch group 3. A solid big band. 4. 5. Great stuff. Joshua Redman? 6. It sounds Brubeck-like 7. Georg Mraz on bas? 8. Lionel Hampton? 9. Thelonious Monk in Phildadelphia This great compilation of rare live Monk recordings was released earlier this year at the RLR Label ( RLR 88623 ). Even if you have a large collection of Monk recordings you sure can find some nice things here. It contains an unique recording of a 1960 radio broadcast with the Thelonious Monk Quintet ( featuring Steve Lacy on soprano) and a 1955 Steve Allen TV program, in which Monk is interviewed. Het liefdewerk van de websites The Jazz Bulletin of the Dutch Jazz Archive published an article in the Dutch language by Remco Takken titled "Het liefdewerk van de websites", in which he establishes the growth of web logs and web sites about jazz as made by fanaticial individuals. Thank you all for your contributions. It is great to learn that so many people, like me, enjoy these great compilations. As I told before these boxes are different then the "The Best Of Jazz ...... " boxes available every where. These titles are selected by experts. The great news is that box 1955 is available soon. Very good news. I was affraid that the series had stopped !! Neptune Band of Zimbabwe Twenty five years ago this African traditional New Orleans Jazz Band (sure) played at several places in Europe. On 2nd of November 1984 they played in Hannover (Germany). Flesh and Blood - Jonathan Kellerman What has this book to do with jazz. As one of the members of the El redescubrimieto de Oscar Aleman project people may contact me about questions according this Argentine guitar player. So I got a message a few years ago from a woman who wanted to know where she could obtain Oscar Aleman's music. She had found a fragment in one of Kellerman's books ( she had forgotten the title) and as she made a habit to buy all music Kellerman's suggested, so she needed an Aleman disc. Keep swinging Durium

A Message From Blakey - Holiday For Skins This Art Blakey record, with two more jazz drummers and seven Latin American percussionists, sounds very good and was a surpise for me. I heard the 1962 African Beat of course, but this one is, in my opinion, much better. This record was released in the Connoisseur CD series of Blue Note. Keep swinging Durium

Groove Juice Special Twenty five years ago I bought an LP of an English group titled Hit That Jive, Jack ! by the ....... Groove Juice Special. I played the record last night and .... like in the 1980s, it didn't entertain me really. Why did I buy this record? I guess it's because the name of the band refers to one of Slim Gaillard's tunes.
