I wonder where Gigi Gryce got the title of his composition Nica's Tempo. Does he refer to the tempo of daily life in Nicaragua ( not likely) or to the baronness Pannonica De Koeningswarter ( more likely) or is there maybe another explanation? Keep swinging Durium

Dear Mike, Thanks for sending me the two discs. I gave it a first play, but really it felt me as if I was asked to give comment on the Eurovision Song Contest ... I liked most of the tunes, but I didn't recognize any musician or bands. I guess most of it must be European bands, perhaps German ones, so that should be an advantage for me. Up to now I don't make any answer so far. Keep swinging Durium

Can someone bring me in contact with the man that screams in one of the first measures of Mulligan's The Nearness Of You as performed at Sal Pleyel in Paris in 1954? I'd love to know who that man is for 52 years. Keep swinging Durium

I wonder if someone can help me to date one particulary Dizzy Gillespie 1950s Vogue session he made a few weeks after his Salle Pleyel concert February / March 1953. It's the recording session with Nat Peck on trombone, Wade Legge on piano, Lou Hackney on bass and Al Jones on drums. Keep swinging Durium

A few weeks ago some recordings of Gaston Bueno Lobo from the late 1930s were found which meant that Lobo didn't die early 1930s. Joergen Larsen did a lot of research and the results are posted on the new Gaston Bueno Lobo site Keep swinging Durium

Gaston Bueno Lobos keeps us awake. A week ago facts were discovered that made us doubt about the knowledge that Lobos comitted suicide in Brazil early 1930s. We love to hear from you more details about his musical life during the 1930s and what year he commited suicide. Jørgen Larsen summarized the information as it reached us out of Brazil and posted it at our Oscar aleman blog spot

It sound like Mulligan playing together with another baritone? 16. Serge Challoff again - Woody Herman band + Four Brothers? Keep swinging Durium

In my Oscar Aleman web log we had an interesting discussion on April 22nd according the split of Oscar Aleman and Gaston Bueno Lobo, his companion in the Los Lobos duo. According to Hernan Gaffet's ocumentary Lobo went depressed to Brazil ca. 1931 and committed suicide. However Joergen Larsen discovered some Lobo recordings in 1932 and 1938 ( ! ) which means that Lobo's dead might have been taken place not early 1930s, but late 1930s. Joergen discusses all details extensive in the web log ( scroll to April 22nd)and I hope you can help us to find the year Lobo passed away. Oscar Aleman blog spot Durium

I bought myself the Raymond Scott Secret 7 CD released on Basta ( 309106), an album full of surprises. One of the musicians is Toots Thielemans, who recorded with Scott in the early 1960s. He recognized the other 8 ( ! ) musicians, but this "secret" to be found behind a link doens't work. Did anyone has ideas about the line-up of this Secret 7 group? More info in my web log

Some thoughts about your great compilation: 1. It sounds to me like Stan Kenton's Orchestra in the 1950s. 2. The violion player might be Svend Asmussen. 3. The title of the tune is Stormy Weather. 4. The bass player sound familiar, although I'm not sure if it's Ray Brown or Niels H. O. Pederson 6. Strange Fruit. A very special release. 7. It sound like the Modern Jazz Quartet. I don't like this kind of mainstream. 11. It sounds like a Jazz At The Philharmonic jamsession. 13. This track only gives me 4 seconds and the title of the compilation < Bright Moment > and then it stops. We have to think about the voice? It could be Roland Kirk, although I never heard his voice. I heard it before - it sounds like Eubie Blake, but that's a guess. Thanks for the cover art !!
