  1. And while we are on the subject of LPs that exploit the physically challenged....
  2. In case this LP cover hasn't graced these pages already.
  3. I just found an LP copy of Guitar Groove in a local Goodwill for $1.99. (and yes, D did scour the rest of the LPs to see if any more good jazz could be found there...to no avail)
  4. Okay, what notable professional electric guitarists don't use picks, but use just their fingers?
  5. That's what I was thinking. What are they valued at nowadays?
  6. Spotted on Craigslist http://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/msg/744173013.html
  7. I haven't been on site in a long time. Too busy, but boy have I missed it! I have been looking for a second electric guitar. I have owned an Ibanez 2630 for a few years, and it is so nice (and has become so collectible) that I am afraid to take it out of the house to rehearsals etc. I'd die if I busted it up. I was browsing in my fave pawn shop and I spotted an odd shaped solid body electirc hanging on the wall. Turns out it was a DeArmond Jet Star Special (circa '97) made in Indonesia. I took a chance and grabbed it (for $100). This is a nice little guitar. It has American made humbuckers, a three way switch and Gotoh tuners. It features a solid mahagony body too, so it is understandably heavy, and it sustains very well. It sure isn't collectible, but it sounds great and stays in tune. And I have grown rather fond of the retro Gumby shape of the body. It is nice owning a beater that doesn't look like everyone else's guitar. Here is a pic of one I see on Ebay right now. Mine is the same color as this one.
  8. Has anyone properly catalogued those Limelight releases? I find them very attractive. Very tastefully designed (imo) I have Art Blakey's "Buttercorn Lady", and "Clifford Brown Immortal"
  9. Among the few Horos currently listed on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/JOHNNY-GRIFFIN-Horo-10...1QQcmdZViewItem
  10. The first one, with Marion Brown and Frank Smith? That's a bitch of a session. I think I paid $20 for it about ten years ago. The Columbia is still his best from the early period, but I like both ESPs. Thats the one. I'd like to have more of the original ESP releases. They issued some crazy shit.
  11. I stumbled across an original copy of Burton Greene's LP on ESP disc at Salvation Army's LP bins the other day. Cost me $2.00. The jacket and disc are both in excellent shape. Chances are the original buyer listened to one cut, freaked out, and put the LPs back in the jacket where it stayed for the next couple of decades.
  12. First post in here in quite some time! I hope everyone is healthy and well. I have been sorting through my LP collection and have decided to thin it out There are LPs in there that I never listen to, and I'd much rather see someone else have them to enjoy. See my listings on Ebay for current LPs for sale. There are a number of desirable items there. Click here and then look at other items for sale. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...E:IT&ih=010 btw, if any forumite sees anything he/she wants, let me know. We can arrive at a price and I'll end the auction early. metric_parts is a motorcycle thing. Sorry, thats my hobby!
  13. Maybe I'm misreading you Slide, but in case you didn't know -- the Onion doesn't print real articles. Some staff member had a ffun time writing this one! Guy Yeah, they got me on that one.
  14. Tony Randall Felix Trinidad Oscar De La Hoya La Toya Jackson Son of Sam Sam Snead
  15. Now there is a sure fire way to lose your investment nut! Jazz clubs in Texas last about as long as a keg of beer at a frat party.
  16. http://www.theonion.com/content/opinion/no..._to_be_a_smooth He goes to great length trying to appear non-apologetic about his career choice, but it comes out the opposite imho.
  17. Today's paper has an article on Tim Donaghy and his history of erratic/antisocial behavior. In one instance he chased a postman down the street, threatening to fire him because the postman accidentally knocked over the guy's recycling bin with his postal truck. He reportedly cut the guy off in his car multiple times and then threatened to have him fired, saying he "knew people". (hmmmm, would they be employed ny the Gambino family by any chance? )
  18. I guess this is something that every musician has experienced. You are minding your own business, trying to improve your musical skills and a neighbor takes offence. Care to share any colorful memories of such events? I'll go first. When I was in the Jazz Knights big band at West Point/USMA I shared a place with another musician (from the concert band). One evening I was in my bedroom practicing. The apartment had the old exposed heating pipes. As I was playing (around 9pm) I began to hear banging on the pipes in the corner of my room. Not thinking it was in response to my practicing, I kept going. Then all of a sudden I hear these wonderful words of encouragement from my upstairs neighbor (which incidentally were the first words he ever spoke to me): "WHY DON'T YOU SHOVE THAT HORN UP YOUR ASS?" And this neighbor was the same guy who would play his stereo full blast all the time. We never complained about it. We just figured it was the compromise of apartment living. About this time my clarinetist roomate walks in and asked what happened. I shared what the guy yelled. Then my roomate asks me to let him see my trombone. He takes it, aims it directly at the ceiling and proceeds to create the most elephantine noise I have ever heard outside of a zoo. You just have to love tolerant people!
  19. A man was lying in bed with his wife late one night. His wife was asleep when he reached over and softly began to run his hands alongside her side, around her curves, past her hips and down to her legs. Then he reached over and ran his hand inside of her thigh, gently tracing her form. She stirred and started to become aroused. She repositioned herself. He continued for a few more seconds, running his hand to her upper thigh. About this time she was beside herself with desire. Suddenly he stopped and rolled back to his side. As the television turned on she sat up, noticeably perturbed. In a frustrated tone of voice she asked "Why did you stop!? Without looking away from the television he calmly replied: "I found the remote"
  20. I am really surprised that this little gem has never been posted. I don't have the directions on how to construct the contraption, but from all indications it works like a charm! Maybe one of these will dissuade the little bastard.
  21. I lived in Munich in the late 80s and did a handful of dates with Barbara and her group. She is a very nice person (and gorgeous! )
