  1. Don't overlook these essentials: Just Another Band from LA - which has the side one live version of "Billy was a Mountain" Peaches in Regalia Overnite Sensation
  2. I dropped by the Dallas location a couple of weeks ago and actually had two or three CDs in hand, but then I looked at the regular price. $18.95?? Sure, 30% off is nice, but when they have that kind of a head start it kind of sucks. I put them down and walked out.
  3. My aps if this one has already been posted. A self absorbed jazz tenor player (I'm sorry, is that redundant?) is leaning against the wall after his jazz gig when a stunning blonde walks up and starts to talk to him. "I was so touched by your playing earlier tonight! Something you played has affected me in a way no one has ever has. I don't usually say things like this, but I want to take you home and make passionate love to you all night long!" To which the tenor player responds - with a curious studied look on his face: "Was that the first or second set?"
  4. Great thread! I have generally been pretty fortunate with my records. But no matter how carefully one tries to be when handling sides, accidents do occur. Years ago I was in a Tolliver bent for a couple of weeks running and I had them all pulled off the shelf for a steady diet. I was just taking one of his lps out of its sleeve (I think it was "Live in Lusrecht" (sp?), and somehow the record slipped out of my hands and skittered across the edge of my coffee table. How it didn't suffer a scratch or a gouge I don't know.
  5. Thanks to everyone for the kind remarks! In case you want to contact Cadence for the CD, the label is "Jagre". I do have copies remaining here (it is a jazz trombone cd after all )
  6. Someone forwarded me a clip of this...from a movie I have never seen nor heard of. Rather dark from what I can tell by this scene, but look at all the names in the film. Louis Armstrong, Sammy Davis jr., Frank Sinatra jr, Cicely Tyson, Mel Torme (singing), Nat Adderley playing on the track in question. I don't know the guys in the band besides Kai Winding. Have you ever felt like going postal on a gig when the chops didn't quite feel right? This scene reminds of the one from "Young Man with a Horn" with Kirk Douglas wigging out in the studio. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecxQIGmKd5E...ated&search
  7. There is another wave of tasty videos on youtube again. This is super! And this! This is probably the last documented recording of Frank Rosolino playing. I believe it was taken at Dick Gibson's Colorado Jazz Party, the day before Frank offed himself. He is seen here with Carl Fontana and Watrous. (it is too bad the video clip isn't complete because Frank is ON) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlPh2doFTBk
  8. What a crazy end to the Cowboys/Redskins game. It seems there is never a dull moment when those two teams play. 5 or 10 years ago I would have had my day ruined by a loss like this one, but I just don't invest so much emotionally in sports as I used to. They always seem to let me down! As far as the unsportsmanlike contact flag on TO for his naptime pose after his TD, I think it was bogus. He didn't taunt anyone, nor did he get in anyone's face. All he was doing was mocking his own self. And then the Redskin spikes the ball after his TD, and no flag? Am I missing something? I think there is a clear anti-TO thing going on. I laughed my ass off when he laid down on the ground and used the ball as his pillow.
  9. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is hilarious! No doubt that this jerk gets what's coming to him for the way he treats the old lady! Watching this made my day!
  10. Tnanks for the heads up on this release. I look forward to getting my hands (ears) on it!
  11. I just thought I'd mention that 90th Floor Records is no longer inactive. Bruce has revived the label. He has recently released a new CD. (The Brian Piper Trio)
  12. I am always on the lookout for the Italian Horo releases. They pop up every so often on Ebay, but the prices usually are way out of my budget. I emailed someone who was connected to the label in Rome awhile back, and he had practically the entire catalogue in stock, but his prices were absurdly high. Currently I have the Rosolino release as well as the Roswell Rudd one. I would love to track down more of them. Any readers here have many in their collections?
  13. This is from my friend Conrad Herwig. When he was with Buddy in the early 80s, he once walked back stage to see Buddy walking around with one foot inside of Conrad's trombone gig bag, saying "look at my snow shoe". Conrad hollered at him to take his foot out of his case....he did. Conrad also said that one of the jazz tbn players responsibilities was to keep an eye on Buddy's cymbal stand. If it started shifting away from his kit, he would have to move it back (while Buddy was still playing...assumedly during a drum solo).
  14. I agree with that pick. That is one of the best Blue Mitchell sessions I have heard.
  15. Jamie Farr John Dingleberry W.S. Stuckey Lucky Thompson Thomas Jefferson Eddie Jefferson
  16. Sharon Gless Tyne Daly Jon Stewart Douglas Ewart Doug Lawrence Edie Gorme
  17. Anyone who wants to can go check out my new website. You can hear tracks from my cd by going to the "discography" page. www.gregwaitsmusic.com Thanks!
  18. I have a lot of Kenton LPs (originals on Capitol) that are from the aforementioned collection I have been liquidating. I hate to put them on Ebay, because I doubt that these will be that desirable. I just don;t want to waste my time and money. If anyone is seeking a particular Kenton side, IM me. I can send a list. I also have several Toshiki Akiyoshi big band sides as well as several Woody Herman LPs too. Oh yeah, I also have a couple Ted Heath LPs! As with the others, all in very good condition, and priced to move. I want to get this over with. Incidentally, there are a lot of classical records in this collection too. (pretty desirable recordings performed by top shelf orchestras and ensembles) I have absolutely no idea how to proceed towards selling them. If anyone in here knows of a classical music enthusiast online message board, please advise! Thanks!
