I'll only say that I'm familiar with the manuscript of this book, and it's an astonishing biography. Research-wise I don't think we've ever seen anything like it. If I'm not mistaken, Pullman has had access to all of Powell's medical and police files, so a lot of stories are going to be cleared up once and for all. As it's been said in previous comments in this thread, no stone has been left unturned, and the degree of meticulousness would drive a regular person mad. At the price this is being offered, it's just a non-starter, whether you have an e-reader or not (I don't, for now). I'd even consider getting it and taking to a printer and have it bound in some cheap way to have a hard copy. Not ideal in any way, but that's how things are, at least at the moment. F

Rollins personnel in 2008 is as follows, according to the Jazz Festival in Vitoria: Sonny Rollins, Clifton Anderson, Bobby Broom, Bob Cranshaw, Kobie Watkins, Kimati Dinizulu. It seems Scott and Rollins have never played together in Vitoria. F

I caught an apparent typo (caption: surely Ray Brown wasn't playing with Ella and Louis Jordan in 1940 - nice photo, though), but it does look good. Liners are by Alain Tercinet, about 14 pages in French, around same in English, plus interspersed pics, and discography (booklet is 68 pages, size is slightly under an A5). Haven't listened to it yet. Still weird difference in Amazon.co.uk, although is "out of stock", so maybe price will be changed when stock is back. F

Interesting detail about the covers. On Amazon UK, Bechet is 31-53, Billie 33-59, and Bird 41-54. On Universal FR Facebook, Bechet is 32-49, Billie 40-59, and Bird 46-55. Louis and Ella stay the same on both. F

FWIW, when they bought the Sanctuary Music Group, the jazz reissues of the ASV label completely disappeared. F So these might depend on previous reissues by labels such as ASV? But those were never complete, to my understanding... I only have a single disc and not a very convincing one. Guess we just need to wait for the boxes to appear! My point was that a major wouldn't use the 50-year EU rule to reissue material owned by other labels. I don't know, we'll have to wait and see. F
