  1. Just started listening to this one. Check back with me in what, five hours?
  2. I really like (relatively brisk) Ivan Ilic's version of 'For Bunita Marcus': http://paraty.fr/en/portfolio/ivan-ilic-plays-morton-feldman/ . Beautifully recorded too.
  3. Sidestepping a bit, don't forget this one by Neidligner's String Jazz (with Krystall) on SoulNote: http://www.camjazz.com/8024709076526-locomotive-cd.html
  4. I ordered a few CDs from K2B2 after Neidlinger's passing, and the order was handled (very promptly) by Marty Krystall. Don't have this particular CD, but I liked everything I have heard by Krystall, he's an excellent musician.
  5. Very nice, this one. Great composer, Cerha.
  6. Ensemble Zefiro / Alfredo Bernardini - JS Bach, The Brandenburg Concertos. I like it, quite different to any other version I have heard.
  7. I love Zimmermanns! I do not find the tempos rushed, in fact I don't think they are faster than most of the modern recordings, it is just that they have this springy tight feel about them, which I actually find very appealing. I really like the way they are recorded too - such a full warm sound. Yes, harpsichord on Bach recordings is a bit in the background, but in general harpsichord loses a lot of its timbral colors when recorded with an orchestra (IMHO), and I still have to hear a record where a harpsichord would sound good with a larger group (I love good solo harpsichord, no problems with the instrument in general). And Zimmermanns' Vivaldi is really excellent (definitely not the fastest I've heard and with very audible harpsichord):
  8. Ives - great. Will check this one.
  9. Constant Lambert - Romeo & Juliet an other works (on Hyperion) Inventive music. Abundance of great melodies. The flow is seamless, it all develops so naturally. Lambert should definitely be better known, IMHO he is easily on par with somebody like Prokofiev. Here is a Hyperion link with generous samples: https://www.hyperion-records.co.uk/dc.asp?dc=D_CDA67545 . The CD costs just 5 pounds .
  10. Listened to "Play". Sounds OK. Does not really work as a whole, IMO, but a lot of nice hooks. Sounds like a Hollywood film composer who decided that he needs to go wild. Will listen some more.
  11. Cafe Zimmermann's versions are my favorite. Energetic HIP performances in outstanding sound.
  12. Saw her live once, she's good.
  13. Oh yes. A nice review here: http://www.musicweb-international.com/classrev/2018/Nov/Fox_topophony_211.htm
  14. Is the label still alive?
  15. Young guy, he is also a composer / performer of microtonal music, but here he plays in a standard jazz piano trio format. I thought this was good:
  16. As per psi website: I called it psi for all the associations with irrational numbers, golden ratios etc but above all for the Psi phenomena which I am convinced are at the heart of improvised music making. I remember reading Evan Parker's interview where he said that the label has essentially folded. And it has its share of bad-sounding (and plain bad) releases - Thomas / Strid / Thomas "wazifa", for example. Clean Feed definitely did some record production / mastering themselves at the beginning, not sure about now. I actually like their current album artwork quite a bit. The sound of the newer releases is mostly good. There are too many releases on the label, I haven't been catching up lately, but among the newish ones I really liked Gerry Hemingway's "Riptide" (also with Eskelin) a lot. I am listening to Sacks's album on Spotify right now, I'm on track 2, sounds OK so far with my regular reservations about Malaby's playing reconfirmed.
  17. Listened to this one, did not like it that much - neither the works, nor the performance. I am not a fan or Ars Antiqua Austria either (saw them live a couple of times), although I do like Gunnar Letzbor's forceful performance of Bach solo violin sonatas and partitas. For the last couple of years this has been my go-to disc for baroque lute music: http://www.timespanrecordings.co.uk/david-miller---baroque-lute.html
  18. Oh, gotta check this one out.
  19. Porgy & Bess is the best jazz club in Vienna: http://porgy.at/
  20. Bill McHenry
  21. I agree, great trio. Yes from me for Renato Sellani. This solo one, "Glad there is you", from his last years, is gorgeous.
  22. Yes, this duo with Draksler is nice. Santos Silva actually reminds me of Barbara Donald from those excellent Sonny Simmons sides of 60s/70s. Same forceful sound (too forceful for my taste), plying very direct, a bit rigid.
  23. Santos Silva is good. I like this one a lot: https://www.subradar.no/album/santos-silvawodrasckameaas-svendsenberre/rasengan
