    Myra Melford

My first exposure to Myra Melford and her music was approximately 5 years ago. I was in NYC and I went to listen to her at the Knitting Factory. She played with her trio and unfortunately I don’t remember who were the bassist and the drummer. I was amazed by her playing and her music. She is very creative and original. There is no doubt in my mind that she was influenced by Cecil Taylor and his music. Since than, I've listened to almost everything she recorded. I like specially her collaboration with Dave Douglas and Marty Ehrlich. Another great player who's working with Myra is Eric Friedlander. Friedlander sounds great on his cello. "Alive in the House of Saints" is one of my favorite trio recordings of the last 20 years. What do thing about Myra and her music???
  4. Booker Little could have been 67 today. He could have made an amazing career but he died too early as a result of uremia. What is your favorite recording of BL? I like everything he recorded but I have a special weakness to his recordings with Max Roach and to *Booker Little and Friend*. This evening I'll listen to it.
  5. I agree that Casals is a legend, but in this case, my preferred artist is Paul Tortelier.
  6. I'm listening to the same. This Mosaic is near the top of my list of Best Mosaics of All Time. I wasn't going to purchase this set but took a chance due to positive opinions on this Board. I didn't know what to expect, yet, received one of the best Mosaic packages of all time. This is nothing short of spectacular, crisp and cool playing from all involved. I never tire of the music on this Mosaic set. I like this set very much but its too bad that Tristano, Marsh and Konitz have not recorded for Atlantic even one session together. If you want to listen to all of them together you have to look for other CDs.
  7. Is there a 7 and an 8? Unfortunately not....
  8. Tristano, Marsh, Konitz: Disk #5 & 6.
  9. Sounds great David. I am waiting for Monday afternoon.
  10. Tristano, Marsh, Konitz: Disk #3&4.
  11. Tristano, Marsh, Konitz: Disk #2.
  12. Oscar Peterson absolutely deserves this honor. I think also Glenn Gould deserves it. He was also Canadian and one of the great pianists of the 20th century.
  13. Tristano, Marsh, Konitz: Disk #1.
  14. I think he is in his best when he plays the flute.
  15. Happy birthday to James Moody who's celebrating his 80 birthday today. Two weeks ago AAJ published an article about James Moody. I wish him all the best and especially good health.
  16. Exactly my thoughts….. I love the black boxes…

  18. Thank you all for your recommendations. Eventually I ordered this short list: • Gnu High • Kenny Wheeler & Sonny Greenwich Quintet: Live at the Montreal Bistro • Music for Large and Small Ensembles • Angel Song
  19. So far I am familiar only with his recordings as a sideman. I like his playing and his sound. Any recommendations as a leader? What about his ECM recordings?
  20. I think the best way to learn a language is to live in other country. Many years ago I spent one year in the US. I remember after 6 months I have started to dream in English and I could even think in English. Unfortunately, now I don’t have enough opportunities to practice my English so sometimes I have translate in my mind what I want to say before I start speaking.
