Me four...

RainyDay, I believe -- but she hasn't been around in quite some time. So maybe no longer single???

You remember right -- at least according to a lot of obits, including THIS ONE. Great quote from that article: Hedy Lamarr was among those who had turned down the part taken by Gene Tierney. When asked why she had done so, she replied: "They sent me the script, not the score."

What's your favorite... (It's that time of year...

I just read that it "was successfully done in a 5-year pilot project" but the National Council has voted against it, so it's now against the rules. But I'm sure plenty of little girls are emailing everyone in their extended families, or on their parents' Xmas card lists... -
Quotes from NY Times obit: Asked how he became a star, Mr. Carson once replied, "I started in a gaseous state and then I cooled." * At Christmas time in 1991, he announced in his monologue that General Electric had sent him a holiday card which announced that "in lieu of a gift, a G.E. employee has been laid off in your name." * Someone once asked Mr. Carson what he would like his epitaph to be. He thought for a moment and reached for the traditional line of a talk-show host: "I'll be right back." *

More footpedals. (also...drawbars/stops?) The light & dark wooden pedals laid out like a giant keyboard are the bass pedals. The big metal pedals with rubber treads (looking like a car's brakes and accelerator) are volume pedals (right, B3-er?). (I'm partial to the knee-lever volume control on a Farfisa -- just a nudge of your knee creates a swell -- a very satisfying gesture -- I'd like to see it on other instruments, but so far I've only seen it on sewing machines and Farfisas!)

No way. Kung Fu Master, maybe. Sincerely yours, "Toxic Granny"

Too many!!! I read about 10, and got lonely for the real thing!!!

I was going to post it in politics but the phone rang, I got distracted and accidently posted it here. Are you sure it wasn't your secretary who clicked the "submit" icon, Randy?

Also taped over were appearances of RFK and MLK in 1962 or 63... (This was also noted on NYC local NBC news last night, with the announcer adding that they were taped over by "some lamebrain.")
-
Local NBC late-night news in NYC played a clip of that last night -- hysterical!!! Jack Webb really had to struggle to keep from cracking up!
-
AND (it must be said) he was awfully cute RIP, Johnny. (I watched years and years of Johnny. Seems like since BEFORE I was 15 -- but maybe that's just because 15 was so long ago!!! He had EVERYBODY on, and talked to everybody -- Truman Capote and Diana Ross are coming to mind, and a clip from "The Thomas Crown Affair" of a lo-o-o-o-o-o-ng-ng-ng kiss between Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway (quite a revelation to me at the age of 16).

Cool!!! Thanks for posting it!!!

Hey, I know you're joking, but seriously... TAKE IT EASY, everybody!!!

And are you actually in school?! You people honestly, dont believe me? I believe you! I think I also found various reviews of yours online at other places (about Vince Guaraldi, the Ventures, video games, Brasil 66, Modern Jazz Quartet, etc., etc.) -- you seem very energetically appreciative of a wide range of things -- I think it may be mutually beneficial that you found your way here to Organissimo -- if you can handle some of us who are old enough to be your parents occasionally acting like parents!

I'd be happy with a Moulton Taylor Aerocar from the 1950s! (I saw one inside the Seattle airport ten years ago, on display from the Seattle Museum of Flight -- it was prettier than the photo above -- glossy forest green )

Those two are favorites of a recording engineer I worked with -- he played them for bands in his studio -- both as comic relief and as cautionary tales! Much-quoted line from the Troggs tape (maybe all the more striking because there's no cursing -- the speaker has almost given up on the guy who can't nail the take and sounds incredulous, pleading, near to tears of frustation): "You have PLAYED it this EVENING!"
-
Exactly! The minute I saw that photo, that tune ran through my head: "Trans-FORM-ers more than MEETS the eye" yes, professional help is a must now! brings me back to the mid-eighties Hasbro days. you guys actually played with those. god, am I old!!! Hey, my SON played with those things! And you think YOU'RE old...
-
For me, it's not out of line at all! Glad to know about it!

A sociology survey/study done in the late 70s or early 80s found that a lot of strippers/exotic dancers had been physically abused by their fathers -- excessive beating as "discipline," NOT sexually abused -- whereas a history sexual abuse was more prevalent among prostitutes, compared to strippers. Of course, there's not a complete wall between those categories. But anecdotally, every single one of the women I personally knew who were strippers/go-go dancers had been beaten by their fathers -- they agreed with that study, that they had a very resentful, angry "pay to look, show me you want it, but you can't touch" motivation.

I won't name any names, since this isn't a Politics page -- but I think we all know that the above varieties of acting-out are NOT necessarily mutually exclusive! A false dichotomy, in other words!
