  1. His cousin, a musician in the post-punk vein and also a lefty political activist, is Kerr's cousin. He posted some remembrances on Facebook and I'll try to get permission to quote those here. Kerr seems like a really far-out and interesting dude. I'd heard the name before but didn't know much about him.
  2. Alan Braufman -- Valley Of Search -- (new test pressing sounding super)
  3. Rémy Couvez -- Paysages Intérieurs -- (self-released, FR) beautiful, intense hurdy-gurdy and electronic compositions. I'm new to this artist but am enjoying this record a lot.
  4. DownBeat; Return To Forever. Now: Amon Düül II -- Dance of the Lemmings -- (United Artists, UK)
  5. Fascinating!
  6. yes; the CD altered the track order a bit and added one cut from '67.
  7. Roswell Rudd -- Blown Bone -- (Philips, JP) the Patti Bown thread reminded me to dig this one out.
  8. Good one. Third World Underground is quite something. The stars aligned for that album.
  9. Sarah Hennies -- Embedded Environments -- (Blume, IT) superb contemporary percussion ensemble music recorded, I believe, in a cistern.
  10. Impressive. I think Brandon Burke did this with Archie Shepp's Live in San Francisco, as he lived near the houses that appeared on that cover.
  11. good one! as is Wo Der Kopf Sitzt, for that matter...
  12. Yep. Especially LP 1 of the unreleased jams.
  13. International Harvester -- Remains (live record 2) -- (Silence, SWE) really nice boxed set that collects the two original LPs and three albums of previously unreleased live recordings.
  14. I have that CD reissue -- it's a strong one indeed. Haven't spun it in ages.
  15. ooh, the PIP issue -- fancy!
  16. Joe McPhee & Survival Unit III -- Barrow Street Blues -- (Holidays, IT) Joe McPhee & John Snyder -- Pieces of Light -- (CjR, US)
  17. ^ one of my favorites in his large catalog.
  18. Marion Brown -- Soul Eyes -- (Baystate, JP)
  19. Looks like Howard McGhee to me.
  20. Paul Chambers.
  21. Ah, I was misinformed -- thanks!
  22. yeah, there was, until Bob Cummins died. The rights have theoretically reverted to the artists themselves, though whether or not they've been informed of that is anyone's guess. Alan talked to Beth, Bob's widow, and was able to get this information. Other labels have taken on the Yoshi Wada, Phil Niblock, and Arnold Dreyblatt albums for reissue, but the jazz catalog hasn't been mined too far beyond some of the more obvious titles. Dennis Moorman, anybody?
  23. I don't run a label so I can't tell you definitively -- and probably there is no definitive answer, hence "pretty strong," but I can tell you that the Phill Musra/Michael Cosmic 2CD set has done very well, especially in places like Japan. It was also released on LP, and some people buy both (one for car listening). That's definitely an esoteric set.
  24. Yeah, I know what you mean. I think that the jazz CD market is still pretty strong; however, a lot of young labels don't recognize this and are trying to capitalize on a younger, vinyl/digital sales market. I don't necessarily agree with it but I do understand it. For what it is worth, the original master tapes cannot be located, and this has been mastered (well, I might add) from a mint vinyl copy.
