I don't think I would listen to them on record now, but they're still good.

Saw them semi-recently in New York with an improvising ensemble joining them onstage for two sets -- Roswell Rudd, Mary Halvorson, Taylor Ho Bynum, Vincent Chancey, Daniel Carter, etc. -- and it was superb. Still hard to imagine buying one of their records again but watching them disassemble their own songs, sometimes unsuccessfully, gave me a clearer idea of what they are capable of. yeah, the early records are pretty different -- basically sound like The Clean, or any page out of the Dunedin scene.

According to the Swedish saxophonist Gilbert Holmström, it's the same guy. However what is not clear is whether Trentham is still alive as the reference I found is a few years old. Trentham is from Missouri originally, relocated to Indiana and studied with David Baker before moving to Europe in the mid-60s. He and Don Cherry had a small group active at that time, basically a follow-up to the quartet DC had with Jimmy Cheatham. Speaking of Lacy, although it's not his record, I would love to see a well-done reissue of Gaslini's Nuovi Sentimenti. I know it was on CD as part of a set via CAM jazz but it's a significant stand-alone document. Also the original cover art is very cool.

sounds like a nice life to me. Certainly enjoy his playing from what little is out there. That Movement Incorporated CD is awesome but maybe a little wild and woolly, even for the Don Cherry freaks...

Yipes! Numbers 1 & 2 is one of the first places I heard this music, on LP. Great to have it on CD now as well. And I'll buy a shirt. XL.

Saw a cover image reference to some archival recordings of Steve Lacy from 65-72, called "Free for a Minute." No idea what label or what sessions these might be. Anyone here have a clue?
