  1. I like Leapin' and Lopin' a lot, as well as the quartets with GG. My Conception is also excellent. Probably haven't spun Cool Struttin' in 10 years or more... never really got all that into it actually and can't figure out its iconic status.
  2. Jimmy Heath -- Swamp Seed -- (Riverside, US mono)
  3. Whoa. I hadn't heard but am glad he's ok.
  4. Many people can't given the 2008 financial crisis, which wiped out a lot of people's 401k and savings/investments here in the States.
  5. Swell Maps -- Jane from Occupied Europe -- (Rough Trade/Rather UK orig) haven't spun this in years, but it still holds up mightily...
  6. Ah, next time! thanks for reading... I didn't catch the movies though some of them I had seen already, and thus hit Vision on Monday night for the first toe-dip. Haven't been to DC in ages but need to get back down there. Barnett Newman is a favorite.
  7. Terumasa Hino -- Journey to Air -- (Love, JP orig) Hino brothers directing a free orchestra with Liebman, Yellin, Dara, Holland, Moses, Garson et al. Excellent.
  8. there's also the inherent assumption on the label's part that all jazz musicians or buyers are straight dudes.
  9. Not my cuppa music and the covers are probably designed to elicit a response, and for that they work well -- nobody is forgetting the name of Venus Records as a result of their nudes. Not offended but also not all that interested.
  10. Pepper Adams -- Plays the Compositions of Charlie Mingus -- (Workshop Jazz, US stereo orig)
  11. yeah mine has that too. I'll try to do a good scan of the booklet at some point.
  12. I can't imagine the booklets were consistently installed...
  13. yeah, that's the one. rather uncommon but perhaps deserving of at least a hearing.
  14. yeah I just re-bought this, picked up a perfect sealed copy and it had a sweet 20 page ESP catalog inside. The sampler is cool, almost like a sound-collage. I like it.
  15. just check the NYC Jazz Record concert listings for September. You should probably be good.
  16. haven't heard Settles' music in quite some time...
  17. Now: Neil Ardley/Mike Gibbs/Ian Carr/Stan Tracey -- Will Power -- (Argo, UK orig)
  18. Everything is Everything -- Just Flash in the Cosmic Pan -- (Columbia JP, promo orig) excellent plugged-in free music with Joe Bonner, Dave Liebman, Randy Brecker, Lenny White, John Abercrombie, Steve Grossman and others.
  19. yeah, she is really nice.
  20. (bottom is Toshi Tsuchitori "Drumrhythm")
  21. seems to be that Mr. Woods has an alcohol problem that he needs to deal with. There's no shame in that, but I hope he finds sobriety.
