  1. Bley's Canadian citizenship might be a factor there.
  2. I have it but it doesn't get a lot of mileage for me either. Who knows though - a decade or two down the line, my opinion & interest could change.
  3. Whoa. I have and enjoy the Table of the Elements LP.
  4. Sonet also issued it in mono in Sweden (like the NY Contemporary 5, Delmark licensed this title from Sonet).
  5. Watching his speech at the NEA Jazz Masters ceremony right now, I don't want to live in a world without artists and people like Anthony Braxton. We've lost so many, but we have so many. BTW: does "live stream" even mean anything in the Tri-centric thought unit?

  6. Wow. A major figure indeed, and very complex. RIP.
  7. It has been confirmed by those close to him. Apparently he passed away in his sleep quite suddenly yesterday. He seemed like a sweetheart and a community-builder in addition to being a fine player. RIP.
  8. Rest in Peace, Amiri Baraka.

  9. Thanks to all of my wonderful friends, heroes, collaborators, fellow writers and enthusiasts for the beautiful birthday sentiments yesterday! It was a busy work day followed by a very chilled evening at home. I feel loved, liked and sometimes even tolerated!

  10. Say what you will, but Min Tanaka is an incredible butoh artist.
  11. Typing the address "poolparty.biz" is not what I ever expected to do in my professional life. Austrian semantic web solutions to the rescue.

  12. As I've strangely never gotten into his music (don't know why), I can only express respect for his doing what he wanted to do, with conviction and influence, for quite a long time. RIP.
  13. Really sad - what a loss.
  14. Looking forward to Heather Graham in the Lifetime movie of Flowers in the Attic.

  15. Having been spoon-fed Inside Llewyn Davis, I have to say it was reasonably tasty.

  16. This holiday to me is finishing my coffee at noon in my parents' kitchen on a Wednesday. Hope you and yours are surrounded by yr loved ones because that's all that is important anyway, regardless of faith or skepticism. Enjoy!

  17. Hadn't recalled that the first word in "Buffalo Stance" is Harmolodic. Serious business.

  18. Most people in the American & European jazz press, etc., overlook someone like Noordijk, even if Holland was quite good to him.
  19. I'd love to hear this one. I sampled the title composition on YouTube and it's so unlike Lacy's regular 70s group. Very interesting indeed. Great LP and rare as they come. And hey, someone named a magazine after it.
  20. Official word here. Great bassist who recorded with Charles Tyler, Steve Reid and his own ensembles. Cancer sucks.
  21. no, that wasnt the hoax, the hoax was very early this yr, jan or feb- rip julian appeared on a blog of some sort, next morn it was all over my f'book feed, the next day, was declared completly untrue. Yeah, I remember that. I had heard he'd passed from several musicians who'd worked with him and of course, believed it to be so. Glad it wasn't the case.
  22. I don't understand the Hype Williams/Dean Blunt/Inga Copeland obsession that exists within music critics' circles. Someone please explain to me why all their separate releases are all over TMT and other year end lists. It just sounds like hipster wallpaper to me, barely registering as music.

  23. Kinda curious how these rumors get started. I mean, death happens to everyone but it's still not (usually) a light matter.
  24. Indeed; I'm fine on the Taylor CDs but others should have the opportunity to buy them. Bought the Davie/Oxley duo LP for very cheap years ago. It is quite interesting; the duo with Frank Perry has never materialized over the course of a longtime search... Bad luck on copies of Zodiac here, would love one on CD or a crisp Sawano-style reissue!
