yeah, I prefer some of Beckett's earlier recordings to this one but on today's listen was enjoying it a lot.
#11 I like a lot, feels familiar but I can't quite get it.
-
#7 is Harry Beckett, recognize that sound anywhere.
Ray Russell on guitar, it sounds like.
"Glowing" from Joy Unlimited, right? Haven't dug this one out in ages.
-
Is it wrong to like track #3? I don't know who it is, could be a lot of contemporary things, but I like it.
recognize #4 but cannot place it.
they cut that track too short IMO!

Joe Lovano is clearly an excellent musician (and very nice guy, I heard), but I personally am not crazy about him. I don't know why. Lack of excitement, perhaps? Even a saxophonist of far inferior skill than him can get me excited.
Being said, the Village Vanguard live was pretty good, the first song on Folkart by Us Five was pretty good (the rest not so much....). And albums with Motian were not my favorite either. Any other suggestions?I agree with this, pretty much -- my experiences seeing him in concert far exceed the recordings.

was Maxine Gregg (later Gordon) married to Jack at one point, or were they siblings? I could never parse that. She played cello with early editions of the Galaxie Dream Band before being with Woody Shaw and, later, Dexter, and then we know a bit of the history afterwards...

Lonnie Holly "All Rendered Truth" at Camden Arts Centre

Fascinating
he's great. Saw an exhibition of his work at MassMOCA one year, and also saw him perform solo with Cooper-Moore opening (Whitney Breuer space, at least 10 years ago now).

yeah, I have encountered that on Bandcamp before and never trust it to be true. I don't believe I've ever gotten a physical product from a Bandcamp page within two weeks.

It was through the TRRcollective Bandcamp store, although from a specific artist. I've requested a refund. No reply so far. Supposedly if it didn't arrive by Sept. 1 it was eligible for a refund. Was supposed to ship by Aug. 18. So far it's $20 down the toilet.
Artists can be slow; they may not actually have product in hand, or are on tour, etc.. only a few weeks late is par for the course in my book. It is too bad that they haven't responded, however.

whoa, that's gnarly.
I had it for the third time in August. It was like a bad head cold, lasted just over a week. Sorry to hear that others have had it worse. I keep up with the vaccinations so will presumably get jabbed sometime this fall...

Right, yeah. 30 minute duo on one side.

Thanks, I have the Evan Parker and I'm on the look out for the Barry Guy, I didn't realise there was one with Van Hove, I'll check that out but prices are crazy
yeah, Assist is excellent. I don't know why people on Discogs are charging $200+ when the going rate is like $75 max for a nice copy. Surely you'll find one.

The only Boland LPs from the MPS catalogue reissued in recent years have been these three on a double CD - highly recommended:

oddly, those are among the CBBB-related LPs I am missing. Got kinda full of Clarke-Boland at one point, when I felt I'd bought/listened to enough. But I'd scoop the vinyl if I ran into it.

Are any of the Swedes he worked with still alive? Seemingly not from what digging I've done, but perhaps.

Saw them a bunch when I lived in Minneapolis for a spell, thought they were good at the time but I'll admit it's been... about 20 years.
Recall one gig where they were joined by François Corneloup -- this was the festival that Jean Rochard of Nato Records had -- and that was a very strong set indeed.

Excellent! The only one of those I'm not super into is "Other Folks' Music," but I have the LP anyway and figure if it was RRK's decision to make the record, he did what he wanted to do.

Basically this, yeah. The Tubby box is strong sounding at least

Yeah, I've had some Gearbox albums that sounded great and some that were pretty rough.

Sad to report that the South African drummer Makaya Ntshoko has passed at 84. The family shared a notice on Facebook.
He had been resident in Switzerland since the early '60s, when as part of the Dollar Brand Trio, he fled apartheid and settled first in Zürich and later in Basel.
Ntshoko had a rather storied & versatile career in Europe, especially in the 60s and 70s, working with Ben Webster, Dexter Gordon, Mal Waldron, Benny Bailey, Nathan Davis, Bob Degen, Heinz Sauer, John Tchicai, Irène Schweizer, Joe McPhee...
Excellent player in both freer and straight-ahead contexts. RIP.

I mean SoulPope used "Neon" so I say go for it!
I think of neon as an inert, colorless gas. YMMV.

looks like outside of MEV, Alvin Curran has made an entire album on shofar:

I am sure I have a few things. Not "jazz," but Alvin Curran played it in MEV.
