Any opinions on Rob Mazurek's Exploding Star Orchestra?
they're rad. They also did a CD with Bill Dixon that I like quite a bit.

On my first visit to the Village Vanguard, I think 1988, I stood aside on the stairs to let Charlie Haden pass with his double bass. Made me understand what an intimate venue it was. I don’t know why, but I was surprised such a star (to me) was carrying his own bass. He was playing with Don Cherry and James Clay, possibly Billy Higgins on drums. Cherry sitting on the floor in hippy garb, James Clay in a sharp suit.
would love to have seen that band live, though Art Deco was never a favorite Cherry album.

Juma Sultan's Aboriginal Music Society - Father Of Origin
Amazing set!

Later Lancaster is good. Those CIMP CDs are swell, and My Pure Joy -- which, thanks to Felser's help, I did the liners for on the LP reissue -- is a fascinating mixed bag.
FWIW I've always liked Exactement quite a bit. It is pretty spare but very personal. Ditto Personal Testimony, which was issued on CD with extra tracks. I've never had the Bellows LP but would be interested to sit down with it, even if it's a bit uneven.

Little Huey still convenes once in a while. Of course the recordings from the 1990s/early 00s are tremendous.
-
Me too. IIRC it was a duo session.
-
Yeah, it's the same trio in Hudson and at the Lace Mill. The venue made a mistake -- I confirmed with both Bisio and Shipp.
Anyway, I'll see some of y'all at the Lace Mill!

Mike Hames' print discography apparently listed a ton of sessions. I've not actually laid hands on a copy but would love to see one.
-
Cool! Someone has them still, for sure.
-
I am quite sure Matt Shipp is not playing on Aug 24th. I asked him and he said he is not...

Bill Dixon, 17 Musicians In Search of a Sound: Darfur is also quite something.
Have quite a bit of LJCO but haven't kept up with more recent large ensemble works.

the only palm thing i know about is
'lovingkindness' unissued extracts. "was intended for palm 14 but not released".

work and pray raw mix
work and pray different version. same guitar(?)
rib crib I mix, with added instruments, and some instruments missing.
rib crib II raw mix
so really, just the 2nd item is new. but they (palm) must have more. or maybe it's all lost after all these years.
there's also a session with Eddy Louiss for Palm that Byard told me about. I don't know if tapes survived.

This is exactly what I'm worried about. LPs are so subjective. Even though I consider my grades to be conservative, others may not agree.
For instance, I will never buy another used record from Dusty Groove, as I don't agree with their grading at all. I've bought a few LPs from them over the years & their VG+ rating is pretty close to my "Poor" rating. I once got a VG+ LP from them that had a large, audible scratch across one whole side.
they used to be much stricter, and have become quite lax with their used LPs. Avoid.

yep. Glad I got to see the LMO once before Bley passed too.

So what is Charlie Haden's best solo on record .... ? Would be interested aka (different) opinions are desired 🧐😇 ....
Very hard to choose, but I loved his playing on two tracks of Alan Shorter's Orgasm LP.
Interviewed Haden fairly early on in my jazz writing career and he was incredibly kind and fun to speak with, as well as politically engaged (naturally). I would imagine the LMO being a voice for the voiceless in places like Palestine/Israel, the Congo, and other areas right now, which is desperately needed.

oh shit, RIP to one of the site's great writers. That's terrible news.

The litter box was in our utility room, and he would go through a cat door to access it. It is a large cat door as these things go - I think I selected the size for a small- or medium-sized dog, because he is a large Maine Coon. I'm concerned that he may have developed arthritis through a combination of age and the fact that his previous family declawed his front paws. (I've been told that this can affect a cat's gait, which in turn can in turn lead to arthritis; please correct me if I'm wrong.) He doesn't seem to want to go through the door anymore.
So, in terms of troubleshooting, I moved the litter box inside, so he doesn't have to use the cat door. I cleverly - or foolishly - moved it to the location he has been using inside. It's at the end of a hallway that dead-ends, so placing the litter box there doesn't affect foot traffic, nor is it a complete eyesore. It may not be ideal, but if he continues to use the litter box in the new location, I can live with it.
ah, yeah, the declawing is gnarly. So sorry that happened to him. I am so glad you are trying to find your buddy a workable situation.

Update:
four proper LPs and the music from one 7" and a Gilson Anthology track spread across 7 records, so they've obviously maximized sides in odd ways. No newly unearthed music. The booklet is probably pretty cool, given Pierre's way with words and a heap of rare photos. I might get it just because my Mother Africa pressing is kinda noisy and I want the book, but...
-
oh yeah, Feliway definitely has worked for our cat in trying times. All advice here I'm seeing is good. Even if the cat goes outside the box, he's still a family member and accidents are a part of life -- cats get very ashamed and I always tell my Noodles that it's okay, we just clean it up and try to find out what's happening.
-
yeah, cats poop outside the box generally as a sign of some issue they're having, be it medical or stress. Our 11 year old cat started doing that but after an arthritis shot seems to be doing a lot better (she was creaking up the stairs). I hope it gets resolved soon and that your cat is okay.
-
yeah, the one time I saw him was excellent -- quartet with Harold E. Smith, Ed Crockett, Bert Smith, and Rufus Harley sat in along with his son Messiah. Pretty far out.

I don't have any originals but according to discogs "Us" was one vinyl + one 7".
yeah, and one of the 7" tracks also appears on Funny Funky Rib Crib. Regardless it is interesting music and will be a welcome set, especially if it includes additional music.
-
so 4 original albums, one of which is a double LP, plus a track from the Anthology, and what else fills out the set? Curious. I have the originals but I could be tempted to pick this up.

I'll admit I'm really only familiar with somewhat vintage Wheeler big band material.
