Nice. I have the CBS-FR pressing of Miles a Antibes and like it quite a bit. Will be nice to add to the music by over 3 more hours...

Haven't dug that Anderza out in a minute. Thanks for the reminder, enjoyable date (have the same Japanese pressing).
Katanga is brilliant. Picked that up as a Stereo PJ original at one point, not a regular find in the bins/walls of the shops so I must thank eBay for the opportunity.

will grab this when it's out. Cool.

I dunno. Some friends & people I have great love for are playing, but overall it seems like an elephant gun approach to curation, kind of like Pitchfork. I'm sure it'll be fun for anyone who goes, but I wish these big festival lineups didn't read like overstuffed Spotify playlists. This is just my observation and I'm not trying to poop in the punch bowl, so take my opinions with a dose of salt.

So sorry to hear this. He was a big part of my jazz education with those sleeve notes and Mosaic booklet essays. His contribution will be missed - RIP.
Absolute ditto here.

ah damn, that is too bad.

Wow.
Also, Spotify does this already, no?

I know this is a little bit of short notice, but perhaps some of you local to the Hudson Valley will be interested in a sort of rangy singer-songwriter evening of music.
What: Tara Jane O'Neil; Little Mazarn; The Local Third
When: September 11 @ Tubby's Kingston, show at 8
$20 doors/$15 advance
I wanted to let you know about a wonderful concert coming up on September 11, 2024 at Tubby's in Kingston, NY with Tara Jane O'Neil, Little Mazarn, and "The Local Third" who are playing the music of Ida, dressed up to look like Ida, and probably smell a bit like Ida (but aren't exactly performing AS Ida).TJO has been a big part of my musical life/interests since I was a teenager trying to get accustomed to life & beauty & darkness and all that exists in the world. She was the bassist and a principal songwriter/vocalist in Rodan, who were huge for me (their sole proper LP, Rusty, celebrated its 30th anniversary this year), and later founded The Sonora Pine, Retsin (who joined forces with Ida), and has recorded numerous solo LPs of spindly, rich songcraft and improvisation. She played Tubby's a couple of years ago with drummer/vocalist Ryan Sawyer and it was a blast.Little Mazarn are from Austin and consist of Lindsey Verrill (ex-Weird Weeds) and Jeff Johnston and sometimes others. Lindsey has that kind of "lonesome train-whistle voice" which cuts through everything. It's music that feels both homespun and otherworldly."The Local Third" will be playing music like this legendary album: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6xaVblDntwUTix here: TJO/LM/TLT -

Ha, yeah, when you said "hat" that's where my mind went, though I am probably not as familiar with his work as I should be.

Not Mat in the Hat either, although the leader does often wear a hat...
Pat Thomas?

Way too young; I gather that he had been ill for some time. RIP.
-
Oh yeah, the connection goes without saying. When I interviewed & spent time with Braxton years ago, "Eric" did come up from Mr. Braxton, so it was definitely acknowledged.
-
Wow, what a loss. Condolences to those who knew him. RIP.

Not "Spiritual" enough, too experimental for London Fields Crew.
Having said that I think "Theme de Yo Yo" maintains its position in a Jazz top ten for the new Jazz cogniscenti. I guess they never looked beyond it very much.
How cynical am I feeling today...
all true, and also the rights to do such a set would be a quagmire. Other than the two Pathé/Nessa titles, everything is owned by Charly/BYG, Pierre Berjot (Musidisc - America, Galloway, Carson), and DA Music/Alan Bates (Freedom-Polydor).

file a PayPal claim I guess?

have this album buried in my bandcamp, I haven't listened to it a whole lot but it's a good session.
too much stuff that I only have digitally gets lost in the, er, shuffle.

So pleased you enjoyed what you heard @Dub Modal. I was hoping you'd get to listen to the BFT as I suspect there's quite an overlap in our tastes from previous posts etc.
Yes, it's Joe, yes this tune is on the Jazzland and yes this version is from another source

this is where the Harriott is from. Track is "Calypso Sketches."

excellent BFT. I'll listen through again and see if I get any others that haven't already been mentioned.
-
Both excellent choices.

Cover is a bit worn for $200 IMO but it's not a terrible price. I have seen Liberty-era LPs with W63rd labels from time to time. More frequently NY USA labels, however, even on 1500/early 4000 series titles.

the vocals on #14 are somewhere between Jacqui McShee and Norma Winstone. I like it.
What vinyl are you spinning right now??

Yeah, I have a 70s white-b copy, which is just fine.
