  1. Yes, welcome. Good choice of a handle. Still waiting for the Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble to either magically show up at my doorstep in LP form or for somebody to reissue it.
  2. Sounds neat. Have to look out for it. Bet there are sealed copies floating around in NYC.
  3. Glad to see this one is finally being properly reissued. I have an original vinyl and it's a fantastic session of weighty, vamp-based and searing modern jazz. Reece deserves a hell of a lot more recognition for his post-BN career.
  4. Where? Don't have that one. Only thing on the BNs box I need, other than the unreleased tracks, is the '64 session. What to do...
  5. So if RVG wasn't ramping up the compression, the trebly sound wouldn't be as much of a problem, and v.v.
  6. From a friend of mine who is now out of music:
  7. I'm bumping this because I've been thinking recently about RVG remasters vs. McMasters. There are a lot of RVG-related threads and discussions, and maybe I'm beating a dead horse (1) and bringing it up in an irrelevant topic (2). How much compression is RVG using vs. McMaster? It seems like Rudy is using more to me, but not being an expert in this end of things, I don't know. Having compared RVG editions of the Ike Quebec records with the McMaster Conns, I prefer the latter - to me, they seem "hotter." Anybody care to weigh in or point me to a better discussion of this topic?
  8. It's chewy. Shouldn't that be self-explanatory?
  9. Great news. Congratulations! I have a couple of dear friends with advanced prostate cancer and it's really tough business.
  10. Any relation to guitarist Ed Speight of Graham Collier Music? I have the two Bernie McGann albums on Emanem. They're pretty nice.
  11. I really like the Chatham Square LPs and the Shandar (which is raw). I have one of the Virgin 12 Parts and wish I had the full vinyl boxed set. Yes, he's overexposed, but in spite of that he's created some interesting music. And Chuck Close's portrait is great, nose hairs and all!
  12. Man, I'm broke too, but that's why these boards are great.
  13. Got any more of these kicking around?
  14. Man, I don't know what you're talking about. I lose count on the pressing bubbles from later New Jazz vinyl issues. Clearly they were often budget-bin reissues or "new artist" discs. Do you think Rene Thomas, Joe Harriott or Don Sleet would've been a "hot seller" on Riverside along with Monk and Bill Evans?
  15. Those BAT LP sets are rare and quite expensive.
  16. Well, I just want a reasonably priced machine that doesn't crap out regularly, has a good amount of memory and a monitor that is readable. I like Windows, but most PCs I've used have been short in the lifespan department.
  17. Thanks. Couldn't have done it without Roscoe's music and Chuck's label, though.
  18. I think the thing with Ike Quebec is the tone rather than the programming. I mean, some of those records are pretty lackluster but his sound is a bitch and a half. I'm a pretty big fan of Blowing In from Chicago - to me a quintessential hardbop blowing date - but YMMV. Like others here, I'd also rather hear Sonny Clark play his own tunes.
  19. Yes, I'd probably run Windows on it anyway because I like to use Access as a self-flagellation tool.
  20. Guess that seals the deal. My only problem with the MacBook is the small size of the monitor. My eyesight isn't that great. Thanks!
  21. Hey all, I'm going into the laptop market for the holidays. I like Macs, yet can't really plunk down for a Macbook Pro. I've been limping along on a dire Dell for a few years. I'm a little tired of PC's but would buy one if there's one with glowing recommendations. A 15" or larger screen would be ideal. Thoughts? Thanks!
  22. I would have paid $20 for a decent blood-red DG of that session any day of the week.
