  1. My two faves are very simple: Q: "How many kids with ADD does it take to screw in a lightbulb?" A: "Wanna go for a bike ride?" and from my days as a five-year-old (still cracks me up): Q: What's the difference between a dog? A: One of its legs are both the same!
  2. I always thought The No-Neck Blues Band had a nice ring to it. Jackie*O Motherfucker are a great band. They sound like early Amon Duul (not that I was there to see Amon Duul in 1969 anyway). I second the nomination of My Dad is Dead, or MDID for short. "The Taller You Are, the Shorter You Get" is a classic record.
  3. I noticed Dusty Groove carries new copies of the LPs from time to time. They're about $12.99 usually. The only one of those I haven't seen them stock is the Beaver Harris 2LP. I remember that one having some particularly nice Bluiett solos, but I haven't heard it in a few years.
  4. "More Nipples" is, dare I say, even better.
  5. I need to get those Shepp-Roach sets. I saw somewhere that Hat Hut collected both the Roach duo albums as a 4 LP box. Sweet... "Birth/Rebirth" is _great_.
  6. Just keep thinking it's the old rate, and everything'll be all right! 40 Euros = $28.50
  7. Let's see... bought online a copy of the Jimmy Lyons "Push/Pull" 3LP set on Hat Hut, but I haven't got anything in a store in a minute. Almost bought a couple of things yesterday, but decided that they would've been surrogates for something I really wanted (like the Lyons). Might, based on another thread, get that "Leapin' and Lopin'" CD (like I'll run into a nice LP copy anytime soon!). In non music purchases, bought several beers, hummus and salad, and cigarettes (yipes!) over the weekend.
  8. Don't you know, after 6000 they start you over as a Newbie?
  9. Oh yeah, Marge, shoulda known. There's a Frank Lowe that looks sort of similar, if I remember right. I would've loved to have seen Haazz and Co. live; that must have been some heavy shit. There's a reason why, in my online personal ad, I say I'd rather be in Holland. Now, if some chick emails me about some Haazz, it's all over...
  10. Not the _worst_ James Bond movie, though, by any means...
  11. Well, ya gotta eat the pickled ginger slices as a chaser to the wasabi. It cools the burn and gives you a nice, tart edge to start that next slice of roll. Wish I wasn't so inland, else I'd be swimmin' in sushi...
  12. Wasabi does some strange shit, man...
  13. I hope you're joking. Bastard!
  14. We'll see about that, ha ha!
  15. I dunno, Old Style is trappist-quality compared to Grain Belt! Gonna go hit the wasabi peas I just bought and make my forehead crawl down my neck.
  16. Is that Pharoah cut from the aborted Jihad date?
  17. I love Mutawef Shaheed! Can October come any sooner?!?
  18. What kind? I was rockin' some Grain Belt Premium (MSP's finest) earlier.
  19. Huh. Looks cool. That Blue Parrot record I've always wanted, the cover being rather interesting as well as the music... Wonder how many they pressed of the original "Cosmic Music"? I mean, the Impulse is fine with me, but damn...
  20. Most Monk, most Lacy. Even when Lacy takes a solo in the middle of side two of Silva's "Seasons," it cracks me up. He's a funny motherfucker. "Hilariously/Hilarious Paris" and "Giblet" by Sunny Murray. He's got that offbeat Cecil-Ayler hybrid thing to his heads that just makes me smile every time.
  21. That is a _great_ version of that tune. So much pathos... I have to admit, though, I like Lester Bowie's repeated use of it as a motif in "Certain Blacks."
  22. A fine, fine record in the tradition of many blowouts (if that's your thing). KGB was Kees' label (as was Snipe, on which he released a duo with Han Bennink). Looking quite forward to the reissue of "Pleasure," his first as a leader. The vinyl is rather impossible to find, and supposedly there will be extra tracks with the UMS version. I'd like to know more of Bley's health -- he was hobbling when I saw him a few years ago.
  23. I've never seen this one before. What's the label? Great band: Dyani fo'sho, and George Brown is a wonderful drummer. Great sense of polyrhythmic tension-building. He's got a neat little record called "Gorilla" on Message.
  24. 1. alcohol 2. women 3. alcohol & women quit smoking and art is never a vice.
