  1. This is well worth tracking down, came out a couple years ago. Blue Note didn't really know how to promote it so its easy to find on Amazon for under 4 bucks. He is also great with Rava on his last two discs.
  2. ^ I think you will like it. I have had Naturally and 100 Days/100 Nights for a few months now and enjoy them. I hear a little bit of Mabel John in her, anybody else?
  3. As a newbie not sure how it works but I happy to jump in or write up a nomination.
  4. That has been on my list for a long time. I will pick that up soon. Thanks.
  5. Best Buy has this listed as a mistake on their web site for 11.99. The re-masters sound amazing (maybe the best sounding remasters I have ever heard) and since I didn't have Coltrane or Africa Brass I am very very happy. Not sure if I would pay $50 for it since I already had the other 3 titles but for $15 with shipping it was a great deal.
  6. An old friend I haven't seen a long time just gave me this. Its been on constant rotation all week. I was never a big Trilok Gutu fan (he can be great but also very mechanical at times) but this is some the prettiest stuff I have ever heard in my life. Farakala - Trilok Gurtu & Frikyiwa Family From Amazon: Recorded in southern Mali in the village of Farakala, Trilok Gurtu’s new album is a unique and surprising production. Having explored for some time the similarities between Indian and African music, this is the first time that he has actually recorded in the sub-Saharan bush. The result is a subtle and deep Afro-Indian combination arrived at through combining south-Malian percussive styles with the rhythmic influences of his own Indian heritage. The originality of tracks like "Santour", "Di Blues", "Dougoukolo", and "Roots No Fruits" testify to the success of this mix.
  7. Mets needed him last year, he will help. I still like the Phils. Since both Bay Area teams will be door mats (at least my team the A's will be young and fun and hopefully on the up swing, Barton and Buck are going to be studs) the Phils may be my band wagon team as they are at least fun to watch.
  8. I pre ordered Holon a month ago, can't wait. Will have to check them out at SF Jazz fest as well.
  9. As someone who only had a few Jarrett CDs; Koln, Facing You, Standards Trio Vol 1 and Live In Japan this CD was my big I get Jarett moment. While quite not like the scene in the Soprano’s where Tony is coming down off Peyote watching the sunrise yelling “ I get it” but hearing the title track and Oleo on the first disc I was pretty much floored. I totally now understand the rabid devotion that people give this trio now. Classic record in my opinion and my favorite disc of 07.
  10. Another AAJ refugee here. I wasn't kicked off but since the community left; clave, bev, words, paps and others thought I would come over here and hang out. Seems like a cool place.
