If you like Live Dead I think Dicks Picks #4 from 1970 would be a good place to go next. The hour that is Dark Star-Alligator etc should be what your looking for. While not as heavy the third disc from Dicks Picks # 19 from fall 73 is very improvisational and possibly my favorite thing ever.

That's nutso. I thought $12 to Oz was bad, but $10 to Virginia? I think once you log in and go to the checkout you get the different shipping options. I only paid 4.60. I hear its has "THE Sugaree" on it.

I agree, essential stuff. I also second the Son House and Charlie Patton mentioned above. Sadly the only source material for Charlie Patton is off of old vinyl recordings. Sound quality aside its worth hearing.

Couldn't happen to a nicer psychopath. Bonds has issues that go way back from when he was growing up but Clemens is scary.

I have an excellent compilation on CD of Reed's Vee Jay recordings, released on the Charly label, but it is out of print. You are right, Jimmy Reed should be mentioned. I don't know what is in print and a good starting point. Vee Jay has re-issued the early Jimmy Reed sides, same for John Lee Hooker.

You could go to the record store and start with the W’s and work your way back: Junior Wells – Hoodoo Man Blues, Blues Hit Big Town Sonny Boy Williamson – His Best Chess Muddy Waters – His Best Chess, Folk Singer, Live At Newport Howlin Wolf – anything on Chess or Sun records, again the Chess Best of are great places to start. Little Walter – His Best Chess Then you got your Prewar Blues stuff. The Roots Of Robert Johnson is a great place to start. Then I would check out the Complete Early Recordings of Skip James and Dark Was The Night by Blind Willie Johnson. I love the Lightning Hopkins 60's Bluesville (recorded by Rudy Van Gelder) records, especially Going Away and Late Night Blues. Then you got your Delta Hill country stuff like R.L Burnside, Too Bad Jim and the complete acoustic early recordings are both excellent. A small sample to get you started as far as some stuff to look into you may enjoy.

We shall see about a motivated Shaq. It seems like the Suns go from having 5 greyhounds to having 4 greyhounds and a drugged water buffalo. If Shaq can give them 20 minutes of defensive presence he could help them. The Gasol trade sucks, I hate the Lake show (in a healthy respectful way unlike the Dodgers which is just pure hate).

Recent Down Loads And Additions From E - Music

My credits renewed yesterday, always a good day. Jazz: Haven't got to everything yet but the Dizzy w/ Bird and the John Taylor are both excellent. Non Jazz: Love the Big Momma Thorton w/ Muddy Waters band and to my surprise I am really digging the Cat Power. Looking forward to the Booker Ervin, Rosenwinkle (my first) Cinematic Orchestra (another first) and the Max Romeo. -
Rodney didn't take any steroids. He took HGH to help an injury heal. It is a banned substance, but it is not a steroid. It is not used to build muscle mass. Get your facts right before you pile more ignorant hate on a team. Sheesh! So its ok to take HGH in the NFL but not in MLB? Its funny how people hold different standards for different sports. Heck a player who got suspended for 4 games last year for steroids was still voted to the pro bowl.

Dap-Dippin' with Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings

I certainly expected that I would but the fact is I've given this newest CD three listens, and my reaction each time is a great big 'meh'. World class vocal chops and a tight band, but ... maybe I'm missing the point (shaking your ass) but I expected better songs. There was only a single song that I wanted to play a second time. Your not alone, my wife felt the same way and I thought it would have been a slam dunk for her. I guess compared to the MTV version of what RnB and soul is now it's conceivable that some are over rating it. I still enjoy it and wouldn't mind catching her live. -
Sounds fun. PM sent.

but from where I sit my team could win 50 games and miss the playoffs while three teams from the least will get in with 30. I think most fans instead of seeing a 4 vs 5 Dallas vs San Antonio or even worse a Indy vs Chicago in the first round might enjoy a 2 vs 15 of Boston vs Portland a lot more. Last year the real finals was in the second round when S.A played Phx. Maybe its time to change things up?

wp: Mr. Tone! np: Only had this one for a couple months but is slowly becoming one of my favorite slabs of vinyl.

Dave Holland Steve Coleman Kevin Eubanks Marvin "Smitty" Smith Great tunes over complex rhythms and meters with inspired playing by exceptional musicians. This is a great one to put for those that think ECM is that weird esoteric label or that Jazz died in 1968. For those that have it and forgot about this record go straight to "The Oracle" with the deliberate and precise solo's by Coleman and Eubanks (man, talk about delicious tone..) wow. If I was going to make a Dave Holland mix The Oracle goes on there with Conference Of The BIrds and the live version of Jugglers Parade off Extened Play without a second thought. The rest of the album is also great. Dave Holland's last two drummers in Nate Smith and Billy Kilson make you forget about Marvin Smith which would be a shame because he is fantastic throughout on this. While short lived some could make an argument that this was Dave's best band. For extra credit I tossed in the World Trio record also if you want to comment on it. For those who play Jazz Guitar and know how hard it is to play Jazz on a acoustic should especially appreciate this one.

I believe its two track because its getting the From The Vault HDCD remaster treatment. I have a friend who works with their production company who has a promo for it and he says the sound is out of this world. 11-11-73 is one of those mythical shows along the lines 5-8-77 and it features the return of To Lay Me Down in the set list since early 1970. Fall 73 (mid Oct to early Dec) is my favorite period of Dead to listen to so I am pretty excited about this.

and a great one man fast break, one the fastest players in the nba. I know Brown has fallen out of favor but that is a lot to give up. The west is so brutal though you have to do these kind of deals just to make the playoffs this year as there will be 3 deserving teams that wont get in. Meanwhile in the East there will be 4-5 under 500 teams that get in. Stern should eliminate conferences and have the playoffs be a sweet 16 bracket.

Gotta give some love to my Dubz. Who just happened to beat the best team in the West in their own crib on Wed. Ignore at your own risk.

Can't wait to hear it.

'Boring!' is the last word I'd use about 'Live in Paris', 'Live in Japan' or the exquisite 'Infant Eyes'. Some of his discs can be very reflective and lyrical. I do reflective and lyrical big time! I only have a couple of discs by him, but I very much enjoy: Gorgeous version of 'Over the Rainbow' there. I agree, Live In Japan, Paris and Infant Eyes are all excellent. -

This is well worth tracking down, came out a couple years ago. Blue Note didn't really know how to promote it so its easy to find on Amazon for under 4 bucks. He is also great with Rava on his last two discs. -

^ I think you will like it. I have had Naturally and 100 Days/100 Nights for a few months now and enjoy them. I hear a little bit of Mabel John in her, anybody else? -
As a newbie not sure how it works but I happy to jump in or write up a nomination.

That has been on my list for a long time. I will pick that up soon. Thanks.

Best Buy has this listed as a mistake on their web site for 11.99. The re-masters sound amazing (maybe the best sounding remasters I have ever heard) and since I didn't have Coltrane or Africa Brass I am very very happy. Not sure if I would pay $50 for it since I already had the other 3 titles but for $15 with shipping it was a great deal.

An old friend I haven't seen a long time just gave me this. Its been on constant rotation all week. I was never a big Trilok Gutu fan (he can be great but also very mechanical at times) but this is some the prettiest stuff I have ever heard in my life. Farakala - Trilok Gurtu & Frikyiwa Family From Amazon: Recorded in southern Mali in the village of Farakala, Trilok Gurtu’s new album is a unique and surprising production. Having explored for some time the similarities between Indian and African music, this is the first time that he has actually recorded in the sub-Saharan bush. The result is a subtle and deep Afro-Indian combination arrived at through combining south-Malian percussive styles with the rhythmic influences of his own Indian heritage. The originality of tracks like "Santour", "Di Blues", "Dougoukolo", and "Roots No Fruits" testify to the success of this mix.
