  1. I hope you're wrong about that.
  2. Nothing 'below'. Please post again.
  3. From what I read, though, he seems to have as big an ego as Keith....
  4. He was one of the more intelligent critics, and Jazz Casual was a great show.
  5. Wow. Thanks. All of us will enjoy these.
  6. I am a major fan of Simon. He is irreplaceable as an extemporaneous speaker and storyteller. His Bird Lives broadcast of a few years back should have been a lesson to Phil Schaap on how to do such a show. Eddie Diehl and I have been bonding over his passing. There are still decent shows on WBAI. The Golden Age of Radio; David Kenney's Everything Old is New Again; Off the Hook; Morning Irsay, Housing Notebook, and a few others are worth hearing, and I'm glad BAI at least in these instances is still a vehicle for creative, alternative radio. All is not lost.
  7. 17. Played with Jackie Mac first, so that's why I figured he was 16 in the pic.
  8. Wow. What was Tony, like 16?
  9. Two weeks ago. Razor and the whole nine. Alas, it grew back fast, and the line the barber made for my beard is overgrown. As someone once said: 'the problem with life is that it doesn't lay right'.
  10. Great party last night. I saw friends from the Hague and everywhere else. Barry performed a little bit, conducted the choir. There were tap dancers as usual. Too many cats for me to make it to the stand, though I was welcomed to play by Pasquale Grasso (already a world class guitarist). Next time. Barry saw me and gave me a big, emotional hug. That meant a lot to me. A splendid time was had by all.
  11. Was Teri Thornton in town then? For those in NY, Barry's 86th birthday party tonight, Dec. 15th at:http://archive.constantcontact.com/fs166/1108970252448/archive/1123188304842.html

Not familiar with Pelzer unless you mean the druggist friend of Chet Baker Jacques Pelzer).

Bump. I just discovered this thread on a google search for Thomas. He was a Jimmy Raney-Django Reinhardt inspired player with his own fat sound and great swing. Sounded particularly good with Chet Baker: the Italian Sessions, and Stan Getz: Dynasty. There's also a trio date with the late Eddy Louiss and Kenny Clarke. I forget the name. He is well worth a listen or two. To remedy that: http://www.discogs.com/Eddy-Louiss-Kenny-Clarke-Rene-Thomas-Eddy-Louiss-Kenny-Clarke-Rene-Thomas/release/2208328
  15. Happy birthday you crazy MF
  16. Yes, Frans was a great guy. He and Barry loved each other. (I lived in the Hague briefly twice, so I got to know Frans and other musicians).
  17. Could you rip my gut out instead? I'm overweight...
  18. Guys, I think it would be a good thing to tone it down some. Just my opinion.
  19. Agreed, except that Barry has a lighter touch than Bud ever did. On Luminescence, Bean and the Boys tricked me. With Barry grunting a bit the first time I heard it I swore it was Bud.
  20. A day late and one semolean (sp.?) short, I nonetheless wish you happy birthday.

    Barry Harris

In time for his 86th birthday on the 15th, here's a 2011 feature article from Jazz Times:http://jazztimes.com/articles/26968-barry-harris-teacher-man
  22. (In a twist of an old joke) That was just God: He thinks he's Wynton Marsalis...
  23. To what adventures do you refer? He made one album there, Jimmy Raney in Paris. That's all I know.
  24. His first was with Slide Hampton.
