  2. Really? I remember it being pretty laid back. Although that feeling may be exacerbated by some of the Scandinavian free jazz etc. that preceded it at this fest.
  3. Ack Van Rooyen 'Homeward' (Mood)
  4. No complaints on the £ to $ front. It's the £ to everything else front I was thinking of !
  5. Grachan Moncur III & Jazz Composers Orchestra 'Echoes Of Prayer' (JCOA/Virgin)

  7. I use standard IEC power cable but arranged in a 'hydra' with a star earthing arrangement. Sort of like a 'power octopus'. Made a very noticeable difference but that's due to improved earthing. A quirk of my particular amp/power supply supplier. No problem with 240V mains quality that I know of so no need for line conditioner. Only to be used if necessary (at least with the mains conditions as they exist here).
  8. Of all the jazz LPs to only have one of. Incredible !
  9. What do you mean "more than expected"? Well, his style of music is one that I don't usually listen to much nor am I particularly 'in to', so I was pleasantly suprised. A nice, relaxing evening.
  10. Saw him at the Bath Fest about 5 years ago. Enjoyed it more than I expected !
  11. Probably add a zero to that now..
  12. Don Ellis 'Essense' (Dutch Fontana, mono) Don Sleet 'All Members' (OJC, stereo)
  13. Yeah, the Grant Green 'Green Street' mono NY USA is magnificent. I think my 'Essence' is on Dutch Fontana. Will have to check..(answer - yes it is. It's next on deck).
  14. Jackie McLean/Ornette Coleman 'New and Old Gospel' (BN Liberty stereo)
  15. "Complete Verve JATP 1944-49" box, CDs 1 and 2. Excellent sound on this set.

  18. Yeah, and by adding the phono stage you effectively bring up the phono input level to 'line' level as used with CD sources.
  19. Looks like this could be interesting.. Story
  20. OK - In that case I've got a home made sheet-metalwork box lash-up that I made back in the day in college electronics lab if that one is a bit rich. Full of nice Mosfets and good old Texas Instruments devices and a whopping 25W per channel. You might have to de-burr the sharp edges on the box though (which would put the Bill Evans Complete Verve WW2 shrapnel box to shame) and get the 'CE' certification for it though ! And add some labels for the knobs on the front panel (and some knobs to the potentiometer spindles, come to think of it)
  21. For anyone who can get BBC Radio 4, there was a half-hour special yesterday morning in tribute to Humph presented by jazz buff ex-politician Ken Clarke. Well worth checking out !
  22. Hey MG, with the number of CDs you have, why not treat yourself to a nice little integrated amp from these guys - Nait Not that I'm biassed, or anything...
  23. How about Johnny Griffin's 'The JAMFS are coming'? Always gives me a laugh, that one.
