  1. Another "Jazz's History For Dummies" compiled by dummies. A futile low level academic exercize. Can anybody compile a 100 books/works/movies of Western Literature or Western Classical Music or Cinema's History? Man, I found most useful the "Best Hundred Recipes Of Aunt Maggie". Life is travelling, I don't like "All Inclusive Stuff at Cancun".
  2. Good idea. Sounds like a good plan for later on. Yep, since I bought the VPI rcm, I started to dig (and clean) my existing collection. The big box sets, jazz and classical, are an hard climb, I mean ten records, or more in the case of Beethoven' sonatas of Mozart's symphonies, but I got some new perspectives about the music. BTW the Mobley, though digital remastered according to booklet HERESY!, has one the quitest vinyl of Mosaic, ECM grade, but with much more punch. Overall "Hard Bop" still means something!
  3. Nice...but where are the vacuum tubes?
  4. That Ed Straker, I never trusted him. Time to move on another planet, bye.
  5. Diggin' into Mobley's Mosaic.
  6. What she said, word by word, thanks.
  7. Michael Mantler - More Movies - Watt
  8. Cedar Walton Trio - A Night At Boomers, Vol.1 - Muse, (with Clifford Jordan).
  9. I am sad for chinese people. And I am even more sad for Burma, now the spotlights move from Rangoon to Sichuan and the Myanmar's criminal regime will have some relief from international pressure. It's some sort of tragic coincidence that the biggest supporter of Burma's junta, China's government, helps again the bastards by means of suffering such tragedy. Fate is mocking and ruthless.
  10. You're unfortunately right, Ubu. He died on the 10th of May. RIP In the late years I passed on his concerts several times, for whatever reasons, he played regularly in Rome's jazz venues and events, I said myself: "Well, next time". I wish I didn't.
  11. It's a good week if you can ONE Ahmad Jamal in PLAYABLE condition. Why are those records always beat to hell? Were they party records back in the day? Really? My scarce (yes, too scarce,) Argo's Jamal are nice.
  12. Yep, in italian we would say "audio industry at the gas hose". (at the end of its tether).
  13. A great favorite , tho' I have it on Columbia CDs. Yep, I had the double LP, CBS italian pressing, since I was fifteen, I sold it when I got the Mosaic. You must have been a child prodigy! I didn't start buying jazz records till I was seventeen. Mind you, there was some good stuff coming out in 1957! Well, when I was fifteen the most hip stuff was THE CLASH!, that I loved and still love.
  14. Yep, it's a good deal. Funny how they dropped about 50% in price since I bought though. On a real positive note, the UK has just launched 'Freesat' this week which will have all of the Freeview channels plus HD for BBC and the terrestrial channels when they launch their HD outlets. For the price of a receiver and in my case cranking the satellite dish round from the current analogue Astra (goodbye German arts shows and teutonic soft-porn) to 28.2E I should get me HD TV for "free" (well - it comes out of licence feee). Mi wife paid 1 K euros for the 37". I agree about teutonic soft porn: an useless oxymoron.
  15. I've got a black label early pressing. Not the greatest recording of my collection, but definitely one of the most treasured because of the Muzik. Get it, in any legal (and illegal) way. That two bucks cd I mean. Don't even try to cross the italian border.

  17. Miles Davis Complete Blackhawk, Mosaic.
  18. It's true! All you have to do is laminate it really heavy, and slide it behind the latch...
  19. At the end my wife bought a Panasonic Viera Plasma 37 inches. It takes a while to set up the image, and to get used to it, but I have to admit that, despite my starting opposition, I still believe CTR are better, it's a pleasure watching DVD on it. I noted that it takes a while to warm up, and after a week it worked better then right out of the box.

  21. I used to buy Acoustic Sound's inners (copy of MoFi), since they sold them, though the latest one I got were bad quality (aka too small). Later I went for original MoFi inners, (I am waiting for 500 right now). Overall the Mofi's worth the extra money, in the latest shipping (500) I throw away 3 or 4 because of some flaws.

    Power cords

LOL. I mentioned this in response to your "questionable, from a psychological perspective" comment, only to point out that there's a limit to the quality of research we can expect in this area. I don't have issues with anyone's trivial pursuits...obviously I'm interested enough in the sound of power cords to be talking about it here, and I design banner ads for a living! Exactly, I just pointed out that such kind of tests are hardly 'scientific' or 'definitive', the more when one comes to investigate the mental processes, there's no general consensus among scientists. Basically I don't buy the 'I can't measure it, ergo it doesn't exist' argument, nor the 'I can hear it, ergo it exists' argument. That it's more or less like the old philosophical matter that people smarter then me, like Hume, Locke or Dewey, just to name a fews never solved. Actually I was only making some college level philosophy starting from power chords. Sorry for the misunderstanding.
