I think I'll go for Klezmatics, they will play in a nice city park and I can have some ethnic food for reasonable price at the gig, too lazy for cooking this evening.

what was the finest period in your life

I never led a blissful existence...well, at least not without a drug prescription of my doc or my pusher.... -
How would you value this BN, you vinyl lovers?

Humorous comments a part, chinese diet is starting to be a serious problem. I was in Madagascar recently and had some scuba dives. The guys at the diving center told me that, because of chinese traditional medicine and food habits, (but don't forget japanese), the number of endangered marine animals and plants are rapidly growning over there. Big chinese companies pay good money for everything, from shark's fins to algas, and the local fishermen, usually poor, are happy. The point is that, with a theorical market of one billion and half of people, the natural resources are at risk and once the natural balance is gone, the chinese will have to watch the Spielberg's movie for curing their diseases. And I'll not see a sleeping whitefin shark in a submarine cave anymore, like happened in my last dive.

aloc is living well, and doesnt ever have to work again, and is now listening to pharoah sanders and leon thomas and earlier, trane and george rochman, just finished a great meal, and is going for a long bike ride, and after that, a snort or two, followed by a couple flicks. no tears for aloc. I am happy for you. Maybe this thread hits me in one of the worst period of my life, so I often think about the better ones. I am a pessimistic, a tendentially depressed guy and all the news about war, violence and enviromental problems don't help me to look at future with confidence. Though I don't have problems with money or job, I reached a point in my life in wich I feel I need a radical change. I am writing a novel and when I am doing it, all my sadness disappears, unfortunately there are still a lot of things to do, daily incumbences that prevent me to spent all my time writing. Lately I suffered from some big blows: bad diseases and death of close friends, ecc. So... I would say I am in changing period, with the good and the bad, mostly bad until now. The last bad thing was the fact that an important publishers, after a tons of compliments for my book, and a promise of contract with 5000 $ as down-payment and 6% of royalties, came back on it. So I have to look for another publishers. All the friend told me that the fact he loved the book at first is a good sign and actually it is, but going back to the book is hard. -

Just a perfect day, Drink Sangria in the park, And then later, when it gets dark, We go home. Just a perfect day, Feed animals in the zoo Then later, a movie, too, And then home. Oh it's such a perfect day, I'm glad I spent it with you. Oh such a perfect day, You just keep me hanging on, You just keep me hanging on. Just a perfect day, Problems all left alone, Weekenders on our own. It's such fun. Just a perfect day, You made me forget myself. I thought I was someone else, Someone good. Oh it's such a perfect day, I'm glad I spent it with you. Oh such a perfect day, You just keep me hanging on, You just keep me hanging on. You're going to reap just what you sow, You're going to reap just what you sow, You're going to reap just what you sow, You're going to reap just what you sow... Lou Reed -

...and live gigs were detronized by radios and jukebox... and the Pony Express was wiped off by telegraph and railways...so what? In the XIX century learning an instrument was an essentialy part of any good bourgeois education. In the XX century a stereo gear was an essential furniture of every bourgeois house. In XXI century a wide band connection to internet and iTunes is an essential service of every bourgeois house. They call it "Progress". BTW a mediocre player IS a mediocre player if he has to play on a stage.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I am not in hurry.

Thanks! BTW I was rejected by italian army because they judged me "mental unstable" and they feared to give me a loaded gun. True story...I think you already understood it from my posts

Actually, regarding close friends, it seems that old Ted didn't change too much...

Sorry, I think I was incorrect about Pepper: he actually served in the US Army in World War II, and the "cocktails" he described may have been designed to mislead parole boards about heroin use. Re. the other point, many many American novels, particularly from the Vietnam era, described leading characters' efforts to obtain 4F exemptions, thus avoiding wartime service. I'll check my shelves to see if I have any quotable novels around... Thanks. I remember the fact from the movie "Big Wednesday", it would be very useful for me to have an exact list of drugs.

Thanks Allen, it would be very useful for me.

And what is that cocktail? Just curious... Me too, an exaustive explanation, please. I need it for my novel. And what was a 4f deferral? I am serious. Art Pepper describes at least one such cocktail in Straight Life iirc... I think a 4F deferral is being excused from military service for medical (incl. psychological) reasons. It's figured in scads of American novels. Does Pepper's book describe in particular this fact? And what does it mean "It's figured in scads of American novels"? I apologize for my bad english.
