  1. She's playing a G7b5, now she's playing a CMaj7...
  2. Ron, go. He is worth checking out.
  3. Yes, but it doesn't have very good sound. True, but it's all ya got. Yes, I'm not complaining.
  4. Yes, but it doesn't have very good sound.
  5. Bill Evans past away. What a loss. I'm listening to the "Complete Bill Evans on Verve" On disc 3.
  6. I don't find what CDs I have by him boring at all. I've seen him live several times and enjoyed the shows.
  7. I saw the Jesse Davis Quitet this week at Smalls in NYC. I have become a big fan of him. He is one heck of an alto player. I bought his new CD and I've listened to it several times already. Anyone else here enjoy his playing?
  8. Buddy Bolden. All the plane tickets from NY to New Orleans to visit old plantations when someone claims to have found the Bolden cylinder in their attic has not been cheap; especially with nothing to show for the time and efforts.
  9. I forgot I asked this before. Thanks.

    Ricky Ford

By the late 70s Ricky Ford replaced George Adams in the Mingus band. I was listening tonight to a Mingus show on Wolfgang's vault and was impressed by his playing. I really don't know anything by or with him outside of the Mingus. Anyone else enjoy his playing? Any other records worth checking out with Ricky Ford?
  11. Thanks for the link.

    Woody Shaw

I'm excited over this. Even though these are audience recordings, I want to hear some new Woody Shaw. link Second link
  13. RIP.
  14. Kenny Burrell was scheduled to play at Dizzy's Club Coca Cola in October. Today I went to make a reservation but I see now that show is no longer listed. Does anyone know how Kenny Birrell is doing? Hopefully it was just a scheduling issue and he couldn't make that week.
  15. Too funny! If he hadn't been a great saxophonist, Konitz could have done stand-up. Yes, he is quite funny. I saw Lee a few years back, and he finished the song and set then said, "we're going to go to the back to smoke a joint, catch you later." He had everyone laughing. Who knows if he really did.
  16. Someone told me Jymie Merritt was playing a piano bass duo at a stake house in Philly back a few years. Anyone from the Philly area know if he still plays this gig. I thought he long dropped off the scene.
  17. That was a good laugh.
  18. I saw Roy and his band last night. 87 and he has so much spunk in his step, and he can still play the drums as if he's 25. It had me wondering, besides him, who is still around that payed with Charlie Parker. Paul Bley, Horace Silver and Sonny Rollins are three more. Not that many left. Any others?
  19. Looking through my CD and record collection, I see "All the Things You Are" and "Body and Soul" a lot. Anyone else think it is a different standard?
  20. Happy birthday Saxophone Colossus. Sonny is 82 today. I wish him many more to come.
  21. You would think by now Mosaic would have put out a Mosaic Select.
  22. Just this Saturday, while in a hospital elevator I heard "Nica's Dream," but it wasn't the Horace Silver Quintet.
  23. #5. Any change the pianist is Barry Harris?
  24. I really like this BFT. I haven't figured out any yet.
